    I wish car reviewers would stop using space as a negative just because a different car in the segment offers a slight bit more, and sometimes only more on paper but not actually more useable in practice. Just give me the figures and I'll decide if it works for my needs. Not everyone is cramming their cars to the brink and looking for every cubic inch of space. This is why every car in their segment keeps getting larger and larger. Mazda built the car to their vision and their segment of customers. And like someone mentioned in the comments, most buyers of these are not squeezing 5 people in the car.

      Mazda is very misleading with their rear seat legroom numbers. They quote a high figure but if you've ever compared it to a CRV, Rav4, Rogue etc the Mazda backseat is very cramped

      Another thing is not everyone has people sitting in the backseat. My wife’s car is the family car. It is rare that my family sits in my car. So for me 99% of the time the backseats are used for my work bag or storage. It doesn’t matter how comfortable the backseats are. Overall I agree with you. I have been the happy owner of a 2019 CX-5 Signature since Dec. 2018 and have 35,500 trouble free miles on it.
    My only real compliant is that the dark brown leather is too dark. Needs to be a lighter brown or saddle color to be really rich looking. Also I wish Mazda had a really bright blue color available like my 2007 Bahama Blue Mica 2007 Mazda 6 5-door I traded in the this car.
    My mileage is 23-24 mpg in the city and 28-30 mpg on the interstate on regular gas. The turbo power is great to have on the interstate. I find the cargo space is enough for me and I like the 40/20/40 split rear seat.
    Mazda really deserves higher sales. This car competes with SUV's $10-15,000 more and is very reliable.

  • @johndaviscarroll
    @johndaviscarroll Před 3 lety +7

    Size is not the problem. In my book it being smaller than the competition is an advantage. What needs improving is the ergonomics of the center console. Tall cups block the dials and no usb in the forward cubby under the dash. The GT trim we test drove did not have lumbar support. The CX-30 is better. Having more trim selection allows the customer to get what they need if they are on a budget. Another concern is the cylinder deactivation with long term wear. It’s a great car, just needs updating. Please do not make it bigger. Get a CX-9 if you want bigger.

  • @dtnehring
    @dtnehring Před 3 lety +6

    The CX-5 is wonderful with one big exception for big backside drivers. The front driver seat has firm side bolsters on the seat bottom. They can pinch in on people with bigger backside and thighs. I was in serious discomfort after a 30 minute drive of a grand touring reserve. You will not notice the pain in the first 10-15 minutes. So take an extended drive and pay extra attention. A quick google search will show other people have experienced similar discomfort with the front seat. If you are tiny, I would think you are OK and the vehicle is absolutely amazing. If you are bigger - watch out.
    Note is am 6’1 and 210 lbs. I was coming out of a 2016 GTI S for 5 years that never bothered me. So I am not a huge person and was accustomed to a sports seat - not sure why the CX-5 dug into my thighs.

I realise you are talking about the backside and I guess mine is about normal for my height. Just wanted to add that being heavier and a little bit taller didn't cause a problem for me.
      The centre console is slightly annoying but much better than the RAV-4 which was a big factor in me choosing the Mazda.
      You have to go with what is best for you no matter what other people might say is good or bad with a vehicle.

      I tried to like the CX5 with 2 different test drives (2023 model) and really wanted to like this car and tried talking myself into it, but the front seat feels so cramped with that with that large center console not letting you to move your right leg at all if you like to sit a bit relaxed. The sales person said that they did that due to a design with how the transmission runs through the center of the car, they had to take up more room that normal. You have to drive with your knees very close together and on long trips, that type of posture will just get exhausting. I have a ridgeline now and that seat is just so comfortable compared to the super cramped feeling in the CX5. I also owned a 2014 honda CRV, 2006 Mazda3 and neither of those ever had this type of poor design problem like the CX5 and the CX50 have. If you are a small very thin person who likes to sit with their knees about 4 inches or less apart this is great car all around, but for folks that like a relaxed drive - don't buy until you do a good long test drive.. The CX50 seats are really uncomfortable but with the numerous complaints mazda sales person said they should be fixing that in upcoming modes. In this car review, you do see everyman driver's knee cramped up against the center console but he makes no mention of how cramped it feels. I am shocked because I test drove a ton of cars this week and the only one that has this issue was the Mazda CX5 so not sure how that wasn't mentioned on the review as he is about the same build as I am. Hope this helps, please do a long test drive before you purchase - cars so much money now so get something that will be comfortable long term.

      Your wrong, we do. Subaru's have lots of relaiblity issues and recalls, so mazda cx5 is more reliable but for me that cramped drivers seat led me away from it. that center console bangs up my right knee on that hard plastic console as you work the gas pedal.

    Something I wished car reviewers would have talked about: Gas tank for these is only 14 gallons....Likely not a problem for NA FWD models, but im filling up my AWD Turbo alllllll the time...Even though mileage is still good.

      Do you always try to operate the touch screen when the car is moving? The touch screen only works when the car is stopping; once it’s moving you can only navigate it using the knob. For safety reason according to Mazda. Hope this helps

    This is one of my top picks - window shopping for a new compact SUV… im just concerned with the many complaints about the firmness of the drivers seat on extended drives, and the screen is a bit small for me. I love the comfort of volvo xc60 but it doesn’t come near the reliability of mazda. Hard to choose between comfort and reliability as a frequent road tripper 😭
