One of the naughtiest bass lines. So fun
The bass in this song is my favorite of all time
Incredible playing. Best cover I have seen on CZcams. Thanks for sharing with us.
Thank you Constantine. I feel honored .
I totally agree with Constatine Isslamow!
LaW_ Thanks :-)
sorry
Agree 100% with Constantine and he is also a maestro
I've got chills.
They're multiplying.
And I'm losing control.
'Cause the power
You're supplying,
Is electrifying
You better shape up,
'Cause you need a man
And my heart is set on you.
You better shape up,
You better understand
To my heart I must be true.
You're the one that I want,
The one that I want,
The one that I need.
If you're feeling
Some affection,
That's too hard to convey.
Meditated,
By direction.
Baby feel your weight.
You better shape up,
'Cause you need a man
And my heart is set on you.
You better shape up,
You better understand
To my heart I must be true.
You're the one that I want,
The one that I want,
The one that I want.
The one that I need
Not fully accurate but it’s all good lmao 🤟🏼😂
Fantastic cover! Goes to show just how important the bass really is in virtually any song!
Take the lead vocals away from this song and the bass takes the lead entirely. The melody it plays throughout this song has all the sound and feel of a great vocal melody.
This is one of those many examples I think of when I wonder why anyone would say the bass guitar is a boring instrument. It’s arguably the most versatile and multi-dimensional instrument in modern music. It’s all bc the frequency it occupies being the quieter spectrum of music that it gets misguided “boring” reputation.
A friend of mine (a puertorrican cuatro player/RIP) once told me: "The bass is the heart of the band."
Bravissimo. Thanks to share this powerful bass in this way.
the detail of slowing it down it's priceless!!!!! great job!!! thanks
Hey...great job on this. Nice job with the pick and the inclusion of all the ghost notes that are part of what makes this such a cool sounding bass line.
Great transcription and execution of the bassline!
0:33 my fav part, those 3 chords played 👌🏼👌🏼
bloody love it. and that backing track is ace too
The bass just sometimes gives you those few seconds of peace in your hectic life.
Eins meiner Lieblingssongs. Einen tollen Drive mit schönen Basslauf. Und die Ghost Noten passen perfekt. Der Bassist der Band is klasse, auch seine anderen Songs sind spitzenqualität
Man I'm loving these bass videos. This one sounds killer. You really nailed that groove. You're a great player.
Thank you :-)
Great job man. Thank you for the tabs.
EPIC song! i am FAR from, playing it good, but still enjoy every moment of it! excellent song to learn
Total agreement with Constantine - This is DEFINITELY the best cover of this song available on CZcams! Consider me a subscriber, Tom!
Excellent playing! Very clean and accurate.
Champion my man, this is insane! I’m learning it right now and I’m sweating! Such a great tune! Great playing champion, and thanks for the help ;)

Love the song but love the base even more. Thanks for the uplaod and tabs.
Great video, I've wanted to learn this for ages and though not nailing it yet you've got me a whole lot closer! Thanks

Fantastic! Great playing and lesson! The TAB and slow versions are especially helpful!
Thank you Jim :-)
This is excellent, and I hope you get many more views. Tone, the scrolling written part, good feel...the whole thing man.
Thank you very much. :-)
This is awesome :) Kudos and thanks, Tom!
What's up with my heart when it skips a beat? (skips a beat)
Can't feel no pavement right under my feet (under my feet)
Up in my lonely room (wa-ooh)
When I'm dreaming of you (wa-ooh)
Oh, what can I do? (wa-ooh)
I still need you, but (wa-ooh)
I don't want you now
When I'm down and my hands are tied (hands are tied)
I cannot reach a pen for me to draw the line (draw the line)
From this pain I just can't disguise (can't disguise)
It's gonna hurt but I'll have to say goodbye (say goodbye)
The Coral - dreaming of you
Just realised bass line is similar.

You really are multi talented....
Nicely done Tom
I got chills! Lol love it!! Ty
Great cover, nice tabs. Just learned it by the tabs.
thank you, from Mexico
Awesome! The ghost man!🎸🎼
I use an open A string for starting the first lick. Transcription is great for instructional purposes. When I play along to the original I swing the groove. This transcription is with a straighter groove.
oh memories .... sounds like your playing in my memory
great way to teach this song

Thank you for the demonstration and the tablature. I had a near-death accident and am unable to play my guitar or violin. However, I can play single-note scales with my new bass guitar.
flawless:)
Perfect!
Great! 👏👏👏👏
Love that bass track from that song GREASE..SOUNDS LIKE THE BASS TRACK FROM HAWAII 5-0
Good Job.
So Excite
Hi Tom, really great cover. Amazing tone. Please share how you got that amazing tone. What strings are you using?
Jamas hubiera pensado en ese pedazo de bajo para esa cancion, increible.
Hay momentos, en los que parece mucho mas oscura, me encanta.
No entendí ,eso de oscura ? A qué te refieres ?
Por un momento me pareció a My Sharonna
Awesome.
Un verdadero profesor. :)
Perfecto 🥇
very efficient and clear
Thank you!
Par Excellence!
Simplement merci ;)
Merci beaucoup, je vais pouvoir le travailler avec mes élèves!
Impossible challenge not to dance to this bass line

What did you run the bass through to achieve that tone?
¡ muy bueno !.
About "You're The One that I Want"
Hi, man. My name is Washington and i am a brazilian Bass learner. Where can i get the sheet music exactly like you play ? Could you help me ?
Thank you very Much
Hello Washington,
the download-link for the transcription is in the video description!
Great video! I don't why but I'm having a hard time nailing those ghost notes. It's a bit frustrating.
👍🏻👍🏻
I read that vintage originally played this song with a pick. This is the first cover that does.
Thank you! It sounds way better with pick.
Regarding your 'Play the Bass!' teching app... I was interested in buying it, but unfortuntely I cannot buy it through the *Canadian* iTunes/app store. WiIl it ever be available there? Is it just for the US customers?
@pmb6667 Unfortunately the app isn't available anymore. But if you're interested in a struchtured bass course with videos, playalongtracks and pdf lesson sheets, check out my "Complete Online Bass Method" on my PATREON page:

Hi Bornemann, beautiful! Can i use the sound of this bassline in one video in youtube channel? You have rights for this baseline cover :-) Thanks!
I don't own the rights on that.
@@basscination Hi, thanks for answer! I know, but i can use THIS bassline? :-)
Congratulations Tom for your fantastic webisite and videos... trully one of major references to anyone interested in the subject. Regarding this particular song, may I dare to ask: I believe this is your original transcription, congrats again cause is the best and most acurrated I have found around the web. But I am so curiious about the way you play it, and the notes are trasncribed into tab. I mean, you almost never play the first string in this song (6 notes in the whole song, plus repetitions) going up to the 12th fret instead of continue to play in the same area of the fingerboard, witch seems, from my ignorance, more practical and easier to play, in special when when sigth-reading. Is there any reason or just personal preference? may I be missing, something? may it be the tone? maybe the pick playing is easier this way? Really thank you if can asnwer this follower :)
A Bassist makes that choice based on the effect of the tone. Each string has a different tone and sounds different. Play the same note but on different strings and you will see that they sound very different. Play higher up on the same string can give a sense of push and energy rather than going to the next string. Or stick to one string for evenness. Its up to the interpretation of the bassist and what character they want to put into the bassline.
TIENES NUEVO SUSCRITO.... FELICIDADES
Me alegro, gracias!
Excellent playing! Very clean and accurate. One bit of constructive criticism---- it would be great to see the notes (written standard notation) before they come up in the song. The measures don't advance until the notes are happening in the song. As a person who reads charts often, I look ahead a couple of measures while playing.
How do I receive all these transcribed scores here in Brazil

T H A N K S !!!!!!!
Wish I could get him to play bass in my band!!!!!
Excelente vídeo, alguém consegue me enviar as notas que ele está tocando? Ex. na introdução ele toca 5/4 6/3 6/2 6/3 5/3 6/3 5/3 6/3 e 5/4 ok? e no restante não consegui, alguém poderia me ajudar?
ta escrito no video, na tablatura. Le a tablatura de baixo pra cima.
DAM! I learn from this video, and when i went to play with the original music, it´s much faster than this tab, omg
yeahh LOL
Excelente,no de leer música ,pero suena bien .
I read music but have never come across these xs, what are they?
@Gareth Stroud The x indicates a so-called ghost note (or dead note). It's a note without pitch which is produced by plucking a muted string.
Does anyone know who is credited for writing this bass line?
Dave Hungate from Toto.
Sketchy Bassist My head just fell off. Naturally someone from Toto would create such an melodic and rhythmic bass line.
I always thought it sounded a LOT like Donald "Duck" Dunn. The tone is totally him.
