The game of Basketball has been my passion since I was 5 years old. I grew up as a kid watching my dad's recorded VHS tapes of playoff games through the 70s and 80s, and collected all the Basketball cards. Something about the game and what it represents just hooked me from a very young age.

One of my favorite duos ever was Mavs vs Rockets in the mid 00's, where Dirk dropped 53 and TMac put 48,9,9, that game was amazing, or game 7 2006 between Dallas and Spurs, that was a bloodbath between Dirk and Duncan.

After your intro and Kobe in the thumbnail, I immediately knew which game you're talking about. Still hurts to this day.
Its funny how much that one still hurts us, regardless of the fact that we knew we didn't stand a chance of winning the championship. lol. We would have had a decent chance of knocking out the Clippers in the 2nd Round, but we definitely would have been destroyed by the Mavericks if we made it as far as the conference finals.

@@jonnyarnett not sure I completely agree with that. The lakers went 2-1 against Dallas in the regular season in which kobe averaged 40 pts for the season series. People remember the 62 point game against Dallas, but kobe also had a 43 point game that year as well against them. Dallas had no answer for kobe and even the game the lakers lost was close and competitive throughout. I think in a 7 game series...lakers had a good chance beating Dallas that year in the playoffs. The lakers matched up better against Dallas than they did the sun's and they even took Phoenix 7 games.
@@nicholashackie1407 Completely agree. The Lakers played great against the Clips and Mavs that season. Kobe was unstoppable against both teams. I honestly believe the Lakers could have made the finals if they grab that defensive rebound. Of course, I do think the Heat still would have won, and losing that Heat team, for obvious reasons, may have been tougher to take than losing to the Suns. But we'll never know.
@@nicholashackie1407 I don't know, regular season vs a playoff series is wildly different. We've seen it a million times, and things just play out different. That Lakers team had no business going anywhere, Kobe was carrying them on his back. Kwame Brown, Smush Parker, Luke Walton... I don't even know how I remember those names, but they'd lose to the Mavs in a 7 game series without a doubt in my mind
Tim Duncan's game 6 quadruple-double in 2003 is massively underrated. People forget how complete, and dominant he was back then.

Isiah Thomas' 3rd quarter performance in game 6 of the 1988 Finals. He dropped an NBA playoff record 25 points in that quarter ON ONE LEG after going down with a sprained ankle.
People that watched that series talk about that performance to this day.. C'mon.....that was the highlight of Isiahs NBA career lol.

I agree that performance is certainly not forgotten, but people tend to only mention the 25 points in the 3rd. The whole game statline is worth a look: 43 points, 8 assists, 6 steals, plus 3 rebounds and a block. With the gimpy ankle for a good chunk of that.
1980 NBA Finals was Magic’s clutch performance and coming out party but even he gave recognition to Jamaal Wilkes for dropping 37 points and 10 rebounds.

John Starks' amazing performance in Game 6 of the 1994 NBA Finals is often overlooked because of how poorly he shot in Game 7.
Starks scored 27 and hit some huge shots down the stretch, but Ewing only scored 17. The Rockets only won by two points. If Ewing scores his average, the Knicks win the championship.
Ewing couldn't score much because of Hakeem defense on him
And that monster block from Hakeem sealed the deal, Stark was so hot, that 3 would've going in if Hakeem didn't block it
It's hard to hit your scoring average with someone like the dream guarding you. No way was Ewing going to get his.

I think David Robinson 71 point game is underrated he scored those points with ease yet no one talks abt it.
He was being fed the ball for those points as his team was trying to get him the scoring title lol
He went into the last game of the season in a race for the scoring title with Shaq. They fed him the ball for the explicit purpose of winning the scoring title against the lowly Clippers. Not taking anything away from Mr. Robinson, but just some context here.
He played like trash 1 week later vs Utah in the playoffs which has a lot to do with not talking about it. Also a lot had to do with the fact that it was meant to deny Shaq the scoring title. . That 71 point game along with Wilts 100 were probably the biggest Stat padding games in NBA history

rondo was my fav player to watch back in the day. yes he had amazing help around him but not anyone can put up numbers like he did even with that help.
the stat lines that he used to produce were straight up stupid. and other than his mavs year, he pretty much always proves to be a big time player.
yes hes no longer the player he used to be, but when it matters, he always comes up with clutch plays, be it a bucket, an assist, a rebound and pass/bucket or a steal on the defensive end, this dude just brings it when u need it the most.
Kyrie Irving in 2016 Finals. Everyone just acts like it was only Lebron, but Kyrie dropped 41 pts. with Lebron and guarded Curry.
I mean, even though Irving played so well, he's not the reason Curry didn't play the way he was supposed to play. I'd say the real underrated performance is Kevin Love's one in Game 7. His defense was absolutely crazy.

in the 2016 playoffs bron led the cavs in blocks, steals, DBPM, Defensive win shares and defensive rating
Mj's 49 in game 1 versus the 1986 Celtics which is why his 63 pts was even more amazing given the Celtics were focusing on Mj.
This might not be one of the greatest, but a performance that always sticks in my mind is Manu Ginobili in game 7 of the 2005 finals. The final score was spurs 81 to Detroit's 74. Only 3 spurs had double digit points, Tim Duncan had 25, Manu was right behind with 23, and Robert Horry scored 15. Manu was 5/5 from the free throw line and hit 2/2 three pointers. He also lead the Spurs in assists that game and was the only starter to get a single steal against the pistons. Again, not one of the greatest performances of all time, but a great performance from a player who people now just remember for being a role player or 6th man

Oh I remember Draymond game 7... I was fuming because I thought (having rooted for CLE there) that we would loose to a lucky hot Draymond Green game and I was out of my mind
He played probably best game of his career and If Curry, Klay or any player hit anything they'd probably win
From way back:
1. Bob Cousy (pre-Russell days) scoring 50 points in an elimination first round game in 1952 or 53, a game which went to 4 overtimes, with Cousy twice sending the game to another OT period with near mid court shots at the buzzer
2. Bill Russell holding Wilt Chamberlain (50.4 ppg average) to 22 points in Game 7 of 1962 Eastern Finals while scoring 19 himself, as Boston won by 2 points. Wilt was held to 28 points below his scoring average
3. Elgin Baylor scoring 61 in a Finals Game in 1962
1970's
1. Portland championship clincher in Game 6 of 1977 Finals, with Bill Walton scoring a near quadruple double with 20 pts, 23 rebounds, 7 assists and 8 blocks. Julius Erving had 40 for Philadelphia, his best ever Finals Game, with several dunks versus Walton.
2. Pete Maravich 68 points in a regular season game vs Knicks in 1977
3. George Gervin wins 1977-78 scoring title with 63 points, including 53 in first half. His 33 points scored in 2nd quarter was a record which lasted until 2016 when Klay Thonpron scored 37. But Gervin did it without benefit of three-point line!
1980s and 90s
1. 1980 Finals Game 6: everyone talks of Magic and his 42 points but what about Jamaal Wilkes with his 37 points and 10 rebounds?
2. Also in Game 5 of that series, Kareem badly sprained his ankle but scored 40 points including winning three-point play with a dunk while being fouled by Dr. J with 30 seconds left. All forgotten.
3. 1984 Game 5 Pistons vs Knicks 1st round: Isaiah Thomas scores 16 points in 90 seconds (!) to send deciding Game to OT, but Bernard King scores 50 to lead Knicks to victory
4. Charles Barkley 44 points and 24 rebounds in Game 7 of 1993 Western Final, or his 56 points in 1994 first round game vs GS Warriors with rookie Chris Webber
5. David Robinson's 71 to clinch 1993-94 scoring title
LeBron in game six of the ecf facing elimination against Boston without Kevin Love:

Butler's Game 3 & Game 5 in 2020 Finals, especially Game 5 because in general that was an amazing Finals game with neither player backing down, and Game 3 when he stopped heat from falling down 3-0 without Bam and Dragic.
Literally one bad playoff series later he's suddenly a choker and got "Destroyed by Bryn Forbes".
Unfortunate times.
Him going toe to toe with LeBron in that series outshines any bad performance he had THIS season...I don't care what anyone else tries to say.

Rondo dropping a 44 pt triple double in the ecf was a marvel to watch
1996 finals had some amazing Rodman games once you look at everything he did.
There was an outside chance of him being Finals MVP. He was very valuable in that series against the Sonics.
what people dont realize is magic retired while in his prime, people actin like magic is past his prime when he caught that hiv virus but he didnt. imagine the accolades, career totals, awards etc that he couldve been won if he didnt get the virus? im not saying that he could break that stockton record but who knows.
The assist record? Unfortunately for Magic, he never led the league in assists again after Stockton became a starter in 1987-88. The former had one season w/ 13+ apg while the latter had five in a row, reaching 14+ apg twice.

Michael Beasley's insane 26 game stretch with the houston rockets in 2016 was the greatest 6th man ive ever seen, that is unless it was Josh Smith's stint in the same place the year before

His team was riddled with Injury..no Klay, Durant or Cousins.....and it ended in a 14 pt loss....but it was a great performance with all the defensive attention on him

To this day, I still believe that if the Lakers won Game 6 in 2006, they would have gone to the Finals. Idk if they would have won because Miami was good that year, but man a Kobe VS Shaq and Wade finals would’ve been something to see!

Lamarcus Aldridge in 2014 against the Rockets in the 1st round. Everyone remembers Lillards .9 shot, but people forget Aldridge had like multiple 40+points and 15+ rebound games that series. He dominated the Rockets down low.
Kevin McHale's 56 Points. It is by far the best game of his career and he was by far the best player for the Celtics as he shoot 22/28 from the field and 12/13 from the free throw line. Compared to his team which shot 29/68 from the field. He also had 10 ORB which is another career high for him. And before that game he only had 8 30+ games with a career high of 33 and after that he only had one other 40+ game (42) which happened the following game after his 56 points.
I always loved the Magic Johnson 13pts, 13 reb, 13 assists in game 6 of 1982 final. Doc J said Earvin was only one who could dominate a game taking 3 shots. Magic was 2 for 3 from field. 9 for 9 ft

Even tho they won the game and the series, ppl tend to forget about Klay Thompson's Game 6 performance against the Thunder in that amazing 2016 playoffs where he made 11 3's setting a playoff record, team down 3-2, and down the whole game is criminally under-appreciated.

The 44 in the return to boston, the two games against them in the playoffs with the bulls before he got injured, his 25 assist game where Boogie didnt even know and cost him a couple more, any number of his kings team record setting percormances. Rajon Rondo one of the truly underappreciated greats in basketball history. Living legend. He and Pau Gasol are truly what made those Finals series legendary. No other player in either position would have yielded the same results
People like to forget that Magic Johnson didn't retire because he was old and couldn't play anymore, the dude was still MVP caliber.
He had slowed down a little physically but his basketball IQ was so off the charts he was still a great force.
As a thunder fan, its the westbrook's 43 points in the finals, after magic talked down him the first few games of the series

Kobe’s 65 point game vs the Blazers in 2007. The Lakers were coming off a 7 game losing streak, and they needed EVERY SINGLE ONE of those points to win this one. Kobe had to score the second most points of his career and hit some of the toughest shots you’ll ever see just for them to win this game. This also kicked off his streak of 4 straight 50 point games
