For albums, I think 1989 is one of the deeper years in music history. What holds me back from comparing it to the best years of the 1960s and 1970s is that I don't think there are a lot of 5 star classics. (I'd give the top 4 albums on my list a 5 star rating, everything else would get 4.5 stars or less.)

Should have mentioned Oh Mercy in my video for sure. Nice list.

Cool video, your love for the year and all the music really shows! I think you covered nearly everything I would, but two albums that I regard as 5 star in '89 are Bob Dylan's 'Oh Mercy' and 'Hats' by The Blue Nile. They would be in my top 5 of '89, along with Neil Young, Tom Petty and Lou Reed. It's funny how alot of the old guard made a resurgence that year! Stuart

Great video! I did notice one omission, however: “Nick of Time” by Bonnie Raitt.

You pretty much covered 1989 and you're right - a strong year for music. I'm not the biggest fan of B-52s, but Cosmic Thing would probably sit in my top 10 that year

Great video. Some interesting choices. Love your top 3. Listened to Disintegration for the first time in years a couple of weeks ago and loved it. I'd have to include the Pixies' Doolittle, Nine Inch Nails' Pretty Hate Machine, and Dylan's Oh Mercy on my list. New York...yes.

Several people mentioned Oh Mercy, that is definitely one I shouldn't have overlooked in the video. Doolittle is great, had it on CD for years, but should grab it on vinyl too. New York is a great one to rediscover too.

Agreed '89 was a great year for new music. A few notable releases that you did not mention that would likely make my top 10.
Don Henley- End of the Innocence. Massive 3rd solo album packed with good tracks, nearly every one of which got airplay
Poco- Legacy- High quality reunion/comeback album of the 5 founding members, spawning 2 top 40 hits
Eric Clapton- Journeyman- highly regarded and successful solo album, a bit of a return to form
Linda Ronstadt- Cry Like a Rainstorm- another "comeback" album, her first rock/pop album in years, spawning several large hits, several with Aaron Neville.

Journeyman does have some great tracks. I saw him on that tour and it was fantastic.

Fela Kuti: Beast of all Nations Miles Davis: Aura. ❤Don’t tell a Soul.
Neil looked great on SNL doing Free World. Though I might prefer Eldorado.
Gabriel’s finest. Maybe one of the best albums all time.

The Tragically Hip deserve the love, and they only got better from there. Two albums that would make my top ten would be Prefab Sprout Protest Songs and The The Mind Bomb which are both fantastic!

Great list usual! lol, except Full Moon Fever should be a lot higher. 😄
For something in 1989 that's well off the beaten track, check out Rickie Lee Jones 'Flying Cowboys'; she definitely plows her own unique field.

I need to check her out in general, but maybe I'll start with that one.
