Being someone who learned and started playing Netrunner after it's not being printed anymore. It's sad to see a great game go. Also in my opinion the best card game ever made. However, honestly I like to compare this game to a type of TV show. A very long TV series and a really good short one. At times when I watch a shorter series and it ends I feel defeated. However in those rare cases, it's a planned ending and it ends up never forgotten. Netrunner is my rare shortly lived TV series that had a some what planned end and it's hard for me to imagine it to be never forgotten. I plan to be one of the few who play often even if its alone building decks.

Great interview! Netrunner is my favorite game of all time and its in good hands with Boggs. I wish FFG would do more about getting this game out there maybe with official digital implementation or more extravagant events, etc., because I truly feel that this game could be as big as some of the most popular tcgs out there.

Does this team still design other games?

Great interview! Those were some pretty difficult questions that were asked, and certainly felt pretty pointed. Great job on Boggs as well!

I love the mention of bluffing. That is the single biggest appeal to me. I think of Netrunner as sci-fi Poker.

Cool interview! I hope FFG push lots more Game Night support. My LGS seems to have pretty much dropped off supporting netrunner :(

Would love to hear interviews of people on the inside after the death. Would be fascinating (or perhaps not...) to know exactly what happened.

This was the interview that was a deciding factor when I decided to play netrunner. Today I feel cheated. FFG have taken my money and ran. I bought the revised core and some deulux sets and the kitara cycle. Our local community was becoming stronger. This game was my weekly get away from it all, I dont play any other game, FFG have killed this over night. I am now sceptical of buying into any of the current games.

I’m new to the game and I’m always worried whenever the developers talk about cycling out old cards. It’s like you designed a flawed system on purpose to justify cycling out old cards like Jackson Howard so people would HAVE to buy the new stuff to keep your decks legal.
Maybe that’s the cynic in me, but there is nothing more demoralizing then having someone say your deck is illegal. Deck building is complex enough as is (on the corps side especially)
I understand that games like these are hard to balance, and ban lists are often necessary. But these should be the exception, not standard operating procedure.

the well balanced cards will come back as the packs get released, like the re appearance of old cards in the new core.

(I understand this post is over five months old: feel free to ignore my reply).
The reason to cycle out cards has nothing to do with the power level of old cards: it has to do with the number of cards in the game. It's a quantity problem, not a quality problem.
In Netrunner especially, knowing what the face-down cards could be is incredibly important. Especially when it comes to things like upgrades, there's only a limited number of options, and that's a good thing: the runner needs to be able to make an educated guess.
However, Fantasy Flight needs to keep printing new cards in order to keep making money and keep the game alive (which sadly isn't the case anymore, but that's beside the point). However, if they keep adding cards it eventually reaches a point where someone can't know every possible card that could be face-down on the other side of the table.
In addition, removing older cycles helps with the financial barrier to entry: the more products a new player needs to buy to get immersed in the competitive meta, the harder it becomes to justify entering a new game. With Netrunner, a cycle can easily cost upwards of $90,-. So by removing two cycles, you are also dropping that barrier to entry by around $180,-.
