You do realize the TSA found and stopped more than 4,000 firearms from passing security checkpoints last year alone? People don’t realize just how much the tsa catches because they don’t go around bragging about it to the media. I just went through some of the comments. How many of you people have actually tried to become a TSA agent. Have you tried going through the pre screening test. 99% of you would fail because of spelling mistakes. The other 1% couldn't read the X-ray screens because it would be too hard. Before you start throwing stones, think about it. What have you done to provide the reaction, what have you done to provide the consequence.
I'm going through the process now and I'm here trying to find some more info. I've taken the pre-screening tests, English aptitude and whatnot, gone through the airport assessment and it has taken a long time and no, it wasn't exactly easy. I haven't gone to the training academy yet but I already have a new found respect for the agency simply based on the stringent hiring process so far.
@@oz311 good question. I don't know for sure yet. The only thing I know for sure is the airport I'll be at has a locality pay of like 23 or 24% of whatever the base pay is. I also know it'll be more than what I'm making now and there's federal benefits. I'm just hoping it'll put me in a better spot until after school.

Three years ago TSA agents failed 95 percent of random security tests. The TSA IS useless! They are security theater. Passengers on flights are the ones who foil attacks.
I was there for two weeks and was told that it cost around $18,000 to train, feed, house and fly me there. Not sure where the number in this came from.
But Target doesn’t mess up on 95% of their tasks. TSA has never prevented a terrorist attack since they were founded. They are a waste of taxpayers money and airport security needs to be privatized like other countries have done.

No, they will not catch test items. The equipment is not adequate. Training is lacking. Morale is low. There is too much pressure to rush the screening process to keep the airlines happy. There's more, but you get the idea.
Trust me, I know there's more. I was employed by the TSA for six years and saw airlines pressuring TSO's to "hurry up" and stop slowing the flow of money but I was a supervisor at the time and we don't work for them. THEY'RE the reason 9/11 happened in the first place. I totally blame the airlines for 9/11 but compare today's airport security to pre 9/11 security. I haven't seen a successful terrorist attack on the scale of 9/11 since 9/11 but the same problems that plagued airline security before 9/11 still exists in every major theme park in the country. They care more about money and nepotism than safety and security.

First they need standardisation across all of tsa. An into pen is an ink pen. Then they need to learn what correct i.d.s look like. And need to learn how to be polite to the public. Don't care what they put with, be polite.

But, obviously, prices are sky high, and the weather is freezing cold almost year round in a lot of the areas where the airports are located. Some objectives for security are Prevention & Deterrence. They're responsible for safety but not authority or use of guns. It will never happen. All security is reactive rather than proactive. "If it works don't fix it" seems to be the mentality behind EVERY security operation I've ever worked for except when I was in the military. (every civilian operation). They've got no sense of discipline and no concept of OPSEC.

They have been extremely rude to me on multiple incidences. Just yesterday a dog handler rudley demanded that I NOT stop for her dog inspection of my belongings. She had given ZERO prior instructions to me!!! She was upset for having to work extra time and held up the whole line up as she demanded to be paid overtime. Their lack of professsionalism compromsises us all (Canada, for instance, provides better screening by being... nice). and contributes to a nasty travel experience.
for some reason canadiens are very nice, too nice, they seem like to not want to hurt anybodys feelings and they comprimise with you on almost anything, its like they do not want to upset you .
I have a degree in Counter Terrorism. Currently going through the hiring process. The problem is all law enforcement jobs are so difficult to get into, depending on demographics. The TSA is a, "foot in the door position" to other federal positions, and sadly starting pay is about $10,000 a year higher than the local agencies. Is it a joke of a job, sure. Do they have any arresting authority, no. However, this is one of the ways to get your foot in the door for other opportunities. 6 months so far, and I've only made it to the computer based test portion of the hiring process. I've heard some people taking almost 2 years.
a 2 week course, 1500 students a year and they want all 45,000 to go thru it. correct me if I am wrong but that is going to be a minimum of 30 years before they have all of the guards trained for this in which most will have retired by then.

A lesson for the TSA. Since you won't hire military or police. A woman was flying on her own , an Israeli security officer asked her questions , without frisking. "Are you married ? Answer = no. Do you have a boyfriend ? = Answer yes. Also I am pregnant, with his baby . " Red flag there was a radio in the baggage full of explosives. Checking does nothing without a qualified interrogator. And at least a few armed observers.
Its 1 week at the airport, then 2 weeks on FLETC, then 6-8 weeks of OJT training back at the airport. So training is realistically about 11 weeks, and they redo this 11 weeks training every year. 21 weeks would cost the tax payer nearly double for the same outcome.

Let me get this straight: The US government flies baggage screeners from across the US to rural Georgia (that's an expensive flight from Alaska) for two weeks to learn how to use semi-automated equipment?! If you want flawless top security , take the Israeli example. All over 21, after military service. All paid over the minimum wage. Screeners need at least a tour of duty honorably discharged. All armed personal are combat proven . All Marshalls and undercover security, are special forces. The leadership must be at least 20 years in the business, or military personnel with 3 tours. Or high ranking PD.

I had just turned 19 the month before when I started my career in corrections... the same age my grandfather was when he was drafted and sent to Vietnam to fight in the jungle. The are plenty of young people “responsible for the security” of different sanctions within the US that do what they do and do it well. Cbt test look at pictures of xrays point out stuff .some pics bad test your eyes first some math little english and sense .physical doc xam pic up suit case put down in fancy rows just lots of paperwork so admin also has job you gotta be superpatient good luck
They have been extremely rude to me on multiple incidences. Just yesterday a dog handler rudley demanded that I NOT stop for her dog inspection of my belongings. She had given ZERO prior instructions to me!!! She was upset for having to work extra time and held up the whole line up as she demanded to be paid overtime. Their lack of professsionalism compromsises us all (Canada, for instance, provides better screening by being... nice). and contributes to a nasty travel experience.
for some reason canadiens are very nice, too nice, they seem like to not want to hurt anybodys feelings and they comprimise with you on almost anything, its like they do not want to upset you .

If they want better salary then get more education, maybe an associate. I mean a GED is not enough, come on....
I have a degree in Counter Terrorism. Currently going through the hiring process. The problem is all law enforcement jobs are so difficult to get into, depending on demographics. The TSA is a, "foot in the door position" to other federal positions, and sadly starting pay is about $10,000 a year higher than the local agencies. Is it a joke of a job, sure. Do they have any arresting authority, no. However, this is one of the ways to get your foot in the door for other opportunities. 6 months so far, and I've only made it to the computer based test portion of the hiring process. I've heard some people taking almost 2 years.

a 2 week course, 1500 students a year and they want all 45,000 to go thru it. correct me if I am wrong but that is going to be a minimum of 30 years before they have all of the guards trained for this in which most will have retired by then.
2 weeks isn’t the only training required. It’s the prerequisite

A lesson for the TSA. Since you won't hire military or police. A woman was flying on her own , an Israeli security officer asked her questions , without frisking. "Are you married ? Answer = no. Do you have a boyfriend ? = Answer yes. Also I am pregnant, with his baby . " Red flag there was a radio in the baggage full of explosives. Checking does nothing without a qualified interrogator. And at least a few armed observers.

2 weeks is not enough they need to go 21 weeks
Its 1 week at the airport, then 2 weeks on FLETC, then 6-8 weeks of OJT training back at the airport. So training is realistically about 11 weeks, and they redo this 11 weeks training every year. 21 weeks would cost the tax payer nearly double for the same outcome.
What a joke. No real training and no authority = joke.

Let me get this straight: The US government flies baggage screeners from across the US to rural Georgia (that's an expensive flight from Alaska) for two weeks to learn how to use semi-automated equipment?! I mean that's a colossal use of taxpayer money for training that must be able to be provided at a cheaper cost. With the greatest respect to TSA agents, their job is not rocket science.
I run security for a government agency, but I can tell you the x-ray screening may not be rocket science but it isn't easy either.

If you want flawless top security , take the Israeli example. All over 21, after military service. All paid over the minimum wage. Screeners need at least a tour of duty honorably discharged. All armed personal are combat proven . All Marshalls and undercover security, are special forces. The leadership must be at least 20 years in the business, or military personnel with 3 tours. Or high ranking PD.

I had just turned 19 the month before when I started my career in corrections... the same age my grandfather was when he was drafted and sent to Vietnam to fight in the jungle. The are plenty of young people “responsible for the security” of different sanctions within the US that do what they do and do it well. It’s people with a mindset like that which made me lie about my age to people at work for years because I didn’t want to be “just some stupid kid” to people like you when I did my job and took it seriously.
