I think the reason they were so much better the first time was the element of surprise. We knew what was coming this time so it wasn’t as funny. The audition was hysterical.

Well, Mischief Theatre with "The goes wrong..."shows have been doing this kind of act for years and they managed to pull the same stuff off over and over again. For this kind of act, your timing and comedic routine has to be on point and that is what they are lacking here. This is more of an idea put together in the garage overnight with as much going on as possible.
Agreed, couldn't said it better! I do think there is some good show element for this group though. But it's like you say: The element of surprise wasn't there anymore.
Imo the singing was better the first time too. This time it felt all over the place. The audition was an organized mess, but this performance was just a mess 😕. They should’ve kept it to the 3 of them. The men are too much and it became hard to follow.
I was really looking forward to this performance and I’m disappointed too
@@DBLCreations I strongly disagree, if something that attempts to give you the element of surprise once and is only good because of the element of surprise, then it's simply not good. The slapstick is what made the first one funny, the chaos is what made this one funny, if you don't find chaos funny, you'll only find this a mess
To be fair, a kind of act like this only works once because no one was initially expecting the twist. Now that the twist is known beforehand, it no longer works.

There's a show called "the play that goes wrong"
It's very successful and has been going on for years and years
If you’re familiar with mischief comedy they’ve made an empire of shows off of this concept & they’re extremely successful

I think they should have gone the other direction and done a flawless audition on this one. That would have caught everyone off guard.
Or at the very least have started it out perfect and have derailed it halfway through.
These women are so talented!! So much in their presentation and their voices are awesome! Great show!
I mean yeah, it didn't feel the same as the first one but can we at least appreciate their harmony? I loved it❤️
I feel like a movie would suit them more than a short bit like this. It would make them land and develop jokes better

I knew from Day 1 their next act wouldn’t be as good. They needed to come up with something different completely. Not the team member ruins the act routine.
I agree, I see a lot of comments that it was because there wasnt an element suprise, but I think it more had to do with it being pretty much the exact same story line. Team member changes unexpectedly, has no idea what there doing and does it all wrong, and did the same skirt changes again. It was kind of repetative untill twoards the end, and the extras just didnt feel intagrated into the story. The last scene also kind of missed the mark becuase he looked he was going for a jog rather then trying to get away from them so he didnt get knocked out too, and she didnt particularly look like she was trying to run after him and catch him. There were some good parts though, and I wouldn't say it necisarily a bad performance, just they way it was excecuted didn't land.
That is the problem with talent shows, they always expect something better. When they would perform the same routine throughout the country they could do so for years without changing it. Sometimes you have a perfect act as audition and Simon says the second performance I expected better even when it is not even possible to do better than their audition.
@@2012inca on the other hand this show is anything but new. An act has to prepare for success and have new material ready to go should they advance in the competition. More people and stuff on their set, just didn't chnage the fact that it was the same act. In comedy, you have to come through with Other gags. This actually isn't the vaudeville era, as you describe...or we wouldn't be commenting, having watched them from our present era devices.
Their timing is absolutely exquisite!
They’re still in character while being critiqued! And the guy is still laying there on the ground! Hahaha
I absolutely loved the dots they were so funny in their audition and in the semifinals but then again I adore slapstick comedy and this is exactly what they do😀

What could've saved it would be a short messy beginning, followed by the act "accidentally" going WELL. Every time it looks like something will go wrong, the stand in saves the day.
Yeah their act is extremely good, but it'll only work if you weren't expecting it
I lovedit! Their singing is spot on! Does anyone even notice that? And it was fun to watch! Not as funny as last time, but fun!
Their audition was way better. I really enjoyed just the three of them and they don’t have to add all the other stuff like tonight. They just missed the mark. 😢

They needed to bring a new surprise this time. Maybe have three others on stage singing and have The Dots slowly sabotage them or something

It's always the case with a "....goes wrong" type act - especially one that is all based round a group of singers. It quickly stops being funny because the element of surprise has been lost. Who remembers "Signature" audition 13 years ago on the BGT which was an act that "appeared" to go wrong, but had a big surprise in it? Their follow up was nowhere near as good, because the surprise was lost.
Look at the beginning of this routine - AGAIN we find out that Cathy is just joining them... didn't they mention this at the beginning of the audition act?
I really like them, they are talented and i hope they have a future with this act but i dont think a talent competition is the right place for them. They definitely got a 3 stooges vibe which i love but this act was just missing something but i still enjoyed it. Maybe cause (even knowing its fake and disregarding the twist) the first act was subtle and believable while this one was more over the top and unrealistic, im not sure but they are still talented and funny

I love their first performance because it does catch you off guard. Perhaps if instead of going in the direction of the theatrics going wrong, someone could have changed the lyrics. The lyrics could have been the element of change that was needed. Like for instance, one of the singers could have been very bitter and sang song lyrics that expressed her reality. It could have ended up as a different show down.
TBH even though the audience were expecting the slapstick effect the sketch was over produced with too many others (dancers) being involved. I suspect that may have been down to the TV producers wanting an all out glitzy show biz effect rather than to the Dots themselves. Their intro tape was hilarious and it’s such a shame that the live performance didn’t hit the spot. I’d love to see them get another chance on TV with a good producer and director.

You have got it completely right. The dancers were a distraction. There was too much material packed in to a short space of time. The ladies are at their best when pared back ie just on their own. All of that said they remain gifted, talented and a superb act, destined to go far. The audition and the VT just needs to be seen by a movie mogul or TV producer who recognises their skills and gives them the break they thoroughly deserve..
Couldn't agree more, the performance had a good concept (a trio act in which ones part is missing and two people are trying to play the same part) and the trolley prop was good for interaction and highlighting the 'mistakes'
Everything on top of that just screamed of production wanting more more more though . The genius in this kind of act is in the subtlety and believability. Less is so much more.
I loved it! Sure I knew what to expect the second time, but that's the same as every other act. Singers are going to sing, magicians are going to do magic, illusionists are going to do illusions, and slapsticks are going to do slapstick! As long as it isn't the same routine as before, it's new. SMDH

Obviously comedy acts like this are going to be in the semis - if all the contestants were singing children and world class dance groups then the show would appear cruel and too harsh - fair play for being good sports

I would actually love to see a tv shoe with them. I think it'd work much better as a show than a stage performance.
I think if they extended it as a theater performance, kind of like that Peter Pan play where everything goes wrong lol

I believe that they should have been on America's got talent All Stars, along with the witch, somebody can have a bad routine but that should not stop them from pursuing their dreams and from going forward
I feel like subsequent performances of this type of thing need to be more over the top than the previous performance.

The vibes were dead before the buzzer. They got everyone's attention the first time - they should have done a straight up performance and concentrated on the vocals instead. I thought retelling the same joke is cringy.
Painfully slapstick. Dizzyingly chaotic. 4 "Red X's" for these lovely ladies!

There was such a missed opportunity with this act! What if the woman who ruined it before ran on in the middle of the act and sabotaged it all! That would have been so much better
I agree with you, I think they could have done a better job with developing the storyline for their act, similar to the play that goes wrong.

The moment Simon buzzed it completely ruined the entire vibe and everything felt awkward, how can one man be so unaware of anything comedy based, the amount of times Amanda has to explain simple things to him! More money then sense..

the comedic acts are not really many this year. i found them brilliant and funny, its hard to time the mistakes perfectly.
I think they should have had the next “act” come out during their performance like the show did something wrong. That would have been a good way to heighten from the audition. But I also enjoyed this too

I agree that this wasn't as good as their audition but the idea that this type of act only work with the element of surprise I'm not so sure, I mean The Goes Wrong Show is pretty successful and you know what's coming way before hand with them so I wonder what's the difference?

You can’t have a surprise act twice.
Some acts or routines are a one-off thing. They don't go over the second time around. Now perhaps a totally different route or timing of the error might have worked but I agree with the call by each of the judges.
I was not expecting that.
I actually think this was a good follow up to the first. It's not as simple a concept as they're used to on the show, maybe? The girl gets kicked out, but she lurks outside the window to learn the next routine just in case, comes to the theater just in case, even has a costume made just in case, which would've worked out perfectly except she learned the part (and wore the costume) for the wrong person. And of course she did, right?

Their first spot was a copy of "The Fox has left its lair" by the Wonderful Denny Willis and Jonnie Mack (albeit shortened) But trying to come up with a second spot on their own failed. Great entertainers just need to find own their footing.

It's such an unfortunate performance. Their ideas were great overall. Compared to the audition a lot was stepped up with the setting, the backup dancers, and even the mishaps themselves such as killing off said dancers and everything ending in flames. Cathy taking Amanda's place was great in terms of choreography but a high point got lost, and that was their harmony. Despite the wrong-goings the song itself was great during the audition and here a lot of it gets lost for the slapstick. If Cathy were to get a clue halfway through and start actually doing Jane's part there was potential, instead of putting all of their chips into the two-people-doing-one-part gag. And even then, all the same, it's a one-trick pony. When you know what's about to happen the magic is lost. Expectation subversion is key where you need to make the audience 'think' they can predict the performance and then actually keep them guessing. So much potential and it was all lost
And despite all that, for what it was you can still see the bit of talent that shines through. The pieces of the song in-tact are still great, most of dance went as well as it was meant to, and in my personal opinion it's still very enjoyable. If only all of it landed instead of just some

In order for this to work you need to have the "screw up" get better over time every week until eventually on the last one they get it right and its flawless. Its not only entertaining but it has a pay off

They shouldve had her beating her up like before lol. Even the lead singer trying to play it off like she wasn't trying to get the other singer back from the last time. It seem like the audience prefer the undercover violence lol.

It was too hamed out .…….remember it can be done repeatedly - Laural and Hardy
