DIY ALICE Pack frame

There are alot of DIY videos on YT detailing making a pack frame for your ALICE Pack. so I decided to give it a go. Total cost was $12 and it took about 2 hours to complete.
Materials used:
-1/2" Sch 40 PVS (8')
-1/2" 90° elbows X6
-1/2" T connectors X4
-PVC pipe glue
-Oven
-Tan Spray paint
Some hints...
-your measurements will change when you bend the pipe, so the that into consideration.
-the top curve and kidney pad are key.

Some 10-15 years ago I saw a pack frame/trash can setup on Canterbury channel. I took the idea and used the 1/4 inch pvc and a gallon sized trash can and made a mini day pack. To this day I miss the thing. The ridged set up was nice to set on a floor and have all my 10c in one place.

Very nice. I think if I was doing it I'd use electrical grade pvc, the grey stuff. It's UV resistant and it could be subjective but I think its a little stronger.

Hey Sarco! Yeah I went looking for the gray but the store I went to didn't have any. So I went with the Sch 40 stuff.

Now I know what to do with my frameless ALICE pack. :) Instead of paint, why not coat it in fabric tape (sniper tape - green or brown), non reflective and goes on easily :)

ABS pipe is the preferred choice. A slight bit more effort to work with, but it's much more stiff (which is what you need for a pack frame).

@themodernminuteman2557 yea thx, I saw em after I commented. I made an oil skin pack similiar to the two pocket canvas arvn alice packs of earlier vietnam era. Ive been wanting a frame but the price got ridiculous on alice frames. Plus theyre kinda short on me. Did you investigate the gray colored pvc? I wonder if it would work and not need paint?

Thanks... I am using the LC2 shoulder straps. I have added a sternum strap to them.

@@hangtough503 the PVC frame weighs maybe a pound versus 3 or 4 for the standard Alice frame
