  • Finally, after 40 years, I finally got a Tandy 1000SX computer! Ever since I was a kid, the Tandy computer line has been a dream of mine. The Tandy Graphics and Sound, that timeless design, the games! I found this one in a very fortunate Flea Market HiFi episode that's coming up on the channel soon. In this episode, we'll take a look around the Tandy 1000SX, clean it up, and make sure it works. This will end up being a multi-part series, so be sure you're subscribed so you don't miss the next one!
Long live retro computers! Here's some time stamped chapters in case you want to skip around:
    0:01 Introduction
    1:01 The Plan and Condition
    2:30 A Look Inside
    5:20 Cleanup
    17:48 Does it Work?
    19:57 Outro

All of my Tandy's (all 8 that I'm currently working on) cleaned up super well with just Windex, some isopropanol and elbow grease. A few do have a tiny few scuffs that wouldn't come out, but honestly I'd rather keep a few battles cars than touch it with a magic eraser. In my opinion, magic erasers take way too much of the texture off, and sometimes the color, and then the whole system is mismatched. My issue is rust - I experimented on using a wire brush on the drill to knock the rust off. It worked well, but I did nothing to the metal and now it's starting to tarnish already it seems, and it's only been a few weeks since I did it. Unfortunately the Tandy with the most rust is my actual childhood Tandy. I experimented with the wire brush with a different Tandy. Anyway - I'll be watching, and I'll be curious how you approach the rust.

RAM arrived yesterday and it's upgraded to 640K! Now I'm looking to get a Bus Mouse and a modem setup to connect to some BBSes.

Managed to get an SD Card working on mine. Now I'm waiting for the RAM chips to get it to max memory.

I know this will probably not apply here but I use cooking oil on certain plastics like matt black finishes..

I'm intrigued... cooking oil for what? Shining them up?

@@VintageElectronicsChannel Yeah for example, I used on the side panels and door on my Black Teac V7000 cassette deck, made them look brand new..
