Marko & Tarja are not playing around here :D and yeah this is Tarja's wheelhouse, whenever she can go full classical she shines. The weight she's able to bring up to that high note is insane. I kinda really want you to check out Slaying the Dreamer from the same concert because she sings in a for her very contemporary voice there but also the operatic part in that end. And headbanging! Plus Marko!! In any case thank you so much for checking out first era Nightwish! :)

I heard that Tarja was sick at this concert with a fever of some kind, not sure its true but if it is it makes her performance all the more amazing
I agree that Tarja & Marko takes this one. Floor and Henk did a great job, even more so now with Nightwish, but this End Of An Era version is so epic. Marko's vocals are much better fit for this kind of metal version, and Tarja has more projection on her voice, so that it actually sounds like opera. I usually like Floor's opera voice too, but somehow I don't feel it with this song.
Tarja is 164cm, about 5´5" or little less. So she is almost 2 inches taller than Emppu...and only about half inch shorter than me 🙄
5'4" for Tarja, Marko is 6'1. Tuomas is 6'5" so cut her some slack she is standing with giants. Floor is 5'11 I think or 6'1". Never mind. What I love about Tarja is how she fills the vocals with vibrato. They sound fuller and richer. It is a style choice to my ears brings out the emotion in the performance. I know not everyone loves everything. That is fine. Only to mention I hear Floor sing and she sounds like she is shout singing the lyrics but very 2 dimensional sound as I hear it and it does nothing to my brain. Technique and form are excellent and totally get that her way is perfectly valid and its not my place to presume to judge one better.
Nor will I. It is purely a subjective experience .
Loving spicy food over savoury is not right or wrong. It just is.
Nightwish had to find someone to succed Anette Olzen and Tarja who had the skills, personality and charisma to front the band and zero arguments Floor checks every box.
That the music now is not for me is in no way a criticism. Nor argument that others will be 180° around on my taste. Let's celebrate not having to do without any era of Nightwish. The entire catalogue exists to dive into.
Thank you for this reaction. If you haven't done the Siren and Ghost Love Score from this show you are missing out. The london Symphony and Metro Voices choir were first hired to work on Once and they are both forward heavy in this concert in GLS. In later remixes the orchestra and choir are pushed back.
Have a friend that compared Floor to Gaga. Gaga gets all props, but, she couldnt carry Floors G string.
This is the best version! Marko and Tarja really shine in this one.
I recommend that you do Nightwish song called Slaying the Dreamer live from End of an Era concert. She uses different range on that one. It is so good!!

Anyway, I'm new around here but I'm enjoying your reactions to NW so far, they're such an epic, extraordinary, legendary band, as you surely know by now! I'm glad to see so many people on YT reacting to Nightwish and thus coming to know their music this way! Nightwish lore spreading all around!!!🤘🖤 Yeah! haha. I mean, you witnessed it, their music is so... God, no mundane word is enough to describe such magnificent otherworldly realm that they've created through their Music!!! Pure magic, regardless of who's the singer they're working with imo! Although I do have a reeaally soft spot for my powerful sorceress metal goddess Tarja 😍😆 ahaha. I mean, I enjoy NW's music from all eras with all lead singers because they're such an incredible band, and although I'm a huge Tarja fan (or Tarjaholic, as some would call us ahaha), I deeply respect, support and appreciate all singers who sang with NW as the equally great, amazingly talented artists they are in their own different ways and rights (and that's a fact only the blind don't see, all else is just a matter of personal taste and preference imo), for each of them brought special, individual and unique elements to the band that helped them grow, mature and develop their artistic identity.
Oh! and a curious fact about this End of an Era concert: did you know that Tarja was very sick with a severe throat infection? She didn't even know if she'd be able to sing that night, yet she did it marvellously! So if this is not the best she can do, just you imagine how damn incredible she is at her best!😍
Btw, I don't know if you're taking suggestions from the comment sections but, if that's alright I'd like to drop down here a list with my suggestions of songs firstly from Tarja's solo career, and then from her era in NW, since from what I've seen (I'm new around here, so forgive if I missed something in you channel lol) you reacted more often to NW with Floor with songs that I generally recommend from her era, and I'm more of an "old school Nightwisher" (although I absolutely LOVE them in all eras!🤘💘 and think Floor is awesome and perfect for their current sound!). Of course you should keep coming reactions to NW with Floor and in general, but also I strongly recommend you to add these songs to your reaction list and undergo this fantastic musical journey 😉
I'd love to see you reacting to her solo stuff (she's been doing a beautiful work), because Tarja has a stunning solo career that sounds different from anything I've seen and I love it, she's so unique, creative and mindblowing! She's been on the road solo for a very long time, so she's got so many wonders to explore and dive in. Since she started her solo career she's finally free to be fully herself, you know, without the "shackles"... and definitely ever growing and maturing vocally and artistically through the years; she is simply a fantastic, hard working, super talented and outstanding artist (who's sometimes even a bit underrated by some unfortunately), a remarkably beautiful soul too! She's such an amazing artist, so creative and expressive, she became a noteworthy songwriter/composer as well, and I love her stage presence and energy too (she owns the stage and simply enjoys every second performing on stage with the love of her fans, so lovely!). Therefore imo, one cannot hope to truly know Tarja as an artist without diving into her stunning solo work. I love her, she's such an inspiration to me, her voice and renditions give me deep, spiritually magical Eargasms💘A-hem... Sorry about that😜. Anyway, her solo musical rock/metal style (apart from her classical music and xtmas concerts, and other "out of the box" projects of hers) is very unique and not easily defined, though it still has plenty of the symphonic metal elements as guidelines such as some kinds of guitar riffs, epic orchestral arrangements and her remarkably dark, powerful operatic vocals (though now she mixes a bit her classical singing tecnique with a few more "contemporary" sounds and her chest voice in a very singular way). Her solo work is much more versatile imo, she incorporates aspects of different stilistic elements and is always experimenting new things in her music without any fear of exploring the unusual, so you never really know what to expect or what she'll do next, AND I find it magnificent!!! Plus I love the fact that she just walked her own path and found her "artist self", never trying to recreate her old days with NW, and I absolutely LOVE the results of her choices, I hope you like it too. Nightwish is a symphonic metal band, that is to say the combination of Opera and Metal, and Tarja's dark and majestic voice is perfect for this style...
I don't understand why you say that Floor is a better singer for the band if all the songs were made specifically for Tarja's voice...

Tarja's outfits, mic and mic stand are matched up. Here you see yellow, later in the show there's a red outfit and mic, and at the end , a white outfit and mic.
Marko and Tarja kill it here. Andrew Lloyd Weber loved this version. I agree with you, this is right in Tarja's wheelhouse. Not uncommon for reactors to do this song to hear Tarja, and get blown away by Marko. Song #5 in an 18 song set.
Noone should hate Tarya. Or Floor. They are different and so NW is different. Buy w/o Tarya there never would’ve been NW. Tuomas and Tarya were friends since age 6. He wanted a folk rock band but he wanted Tarya as singer and she overwhelmed the musicians. So he went to her voice and symphonic metal. 10 years together as NW. Almost all their songs were written by him for her. Or about her at the end. Lol. PS her wheel house is much more than high soprano.
Little correction, not even a rock band but acoustic mood music with keys. There is their demo from 1996 in YT. And some people disagree that those songs were about her, but I think I'm with you here.

I found Nightwish first with Floor, but I really enjoy this one from Tarja and actually all three singers have their lane, except Floor changes lanes more.
Tarja changes lanes when it comes to music genres! :) Only last year she's done a Christmas tour singing classical music in churches, been at Wacken and her own (rock I'd say?) album tour AND released new songs from her Outlanders side project which is electronic music. She's being incredibly experimental and creative, especially in her solo career :) And I'm glad she's staying true to herself by singing in a way that you can recognise still ❣
It might be also that Holopainen has been developted, learnt to try new things. When you are young and start something you usually stay on the same lane until an outside force forces you to change course. Until then, you offer what you are known for and what you think people expect from you. (Just a thought...)
Tarja is slender but I think she's around 5'5 or 5'6 in height. She posts a lot and does the occasional live stream on Instagram. And this is definitely her game! She continues to kill it in her solo career, with the classical metal and popish and pop-rock styles.

Camilla looked so happy at the start to be doing another Nightwish! Yeah, fantastic performance. For me, if Henk's phantom is like Christopher Lee's Dracula then Marko's is Max Schreck's Count Orlok - both are monsters, but one has a surface layer of sophistication while the other is just bestial. I love both versions, but I think this is still my favourite.

Hey guys. Great reaction! Tarja is 5'5", probably 5'8" with the heels she always wears while performing...basically an average height range for women in most countries. I think you guys are just so used to seeing Floor, who even without heels stands at 6ft in height and towers over most men. Tarja is just an average sized lady with a delicate build.

Floor is lovely but Tarja is more versatile... outside of Nightwish which she created with her classmates Tuomas and his friend Emppu. Floor is wonderful though.
Whatever Floor does in POTO, Tarja was her great example in how she could sing this song. But I also have to say: Floor holds that last high note twice as long on the 2nd night of their concert in ZiggoDome Amsterdam (November 28, 2022) without any uncertainties or weakening strength. (I was there)
She holds that note twice as long because its a half note lower, she does it thin and nasal...which kinda makes the lenght of it irrelevant. Tarja's note is fuller, richer and sharper, with almost full headvoice. Floor mixes in chest voice in almost everything.

Without Tarja, NW wouldn’t even be a metal band. They were originally an acoustic folk band. So, there would be no Floor with NW.

This was the last time Nightwish performed this song, until November 27, 2022, 17 years later. That was done at their concert in Amsterdam, with Floor and Henk Poort. Nightwish just released that video 3 days ago. I just saw your comment you’ve watched it. Look forward to seeing that too. Tarja is about 5’5”.

You are not right when you say that Floor is a better singer for Nightwish, just as Floor is not a worse singer than Tarja.
If you say this, then you know very few Nightwish songs with Tarja.
Although Floor is generally a more versatile singer, Tarja sings songs such as "Phantom of the opera", "Siren", "Walking in the air" or "Wishmaster" etc. better.
Both singers have their own beautiful unmistakable style
It's like comparing apples and pears, you just simly can't compare what can't be compared.
Yeah I get it. I actually had Oceanborn and Wishmaster when I was in high school so I knew Tarja-era Nightwish first.

Opinions, everybody has one, but I could have never gotten into Nightwish like I do, before Floor joined them. Out of love for Nightwish and respect for the band I have listened to them many times with Tarja and Anette. They sound like like a great and solid band, no matter the lead singer, and Tuomas is a genius. Neither Tarja nor Anette with Nightwish do it for me, not like Floor. Today even Tarja has moved away from that full on opera sound she had, "potato in the mouth" sound as she herself described it. Phantom of the Opera was not an opera, it was a musical. Christine in the Phantom did not sing it like Tarja, and Andrew Lloyd Webber that wrote the musical commented that Henk Poort did his favorite Phantom.

The "potato in the mouth" expression was used by Tarja to define her first years of trying to adapt her classical techniques to a metal sound, in the Oceanborn Era. BUT by the time of Century Child she already was experimenting more with her voice, and even more in the "Once" era of this concert, that Tarja quote explains the different of vocals between the 2 studio versions Tarja recorded of Sleeping Sun. She found out the first version too operatic for a rock sound, even though she still sings it in a more Classical Fuller voice whenever she performs it with an Orchestra on some live concerts. But I guess it doesn't apply that much to "Phantom of the Opera".
Plus, Andrew Loyd Webber firstly gave permission to Nightwish to release their studio cover of this song in Century Child album, and he had to give them permission again to release the Live cover, and he was Thrilled with this Live version, he absolutely loved the combination of Tarja's and Marco's contrasting vocals with a heavier sound! And I agree with him, this is the "Perfect" version of Phantom of the Opera!
Of course you are entitled to your own taste, but don't throw Andrew Loyd Webber in an effort to try to legitimize Floor's version more than Tarja, It works the other way around.
Also if Floor wanted to be closer to the original musical version she would have ended the song in the original note: an E6, instead of her D6 in all performances (Tarja sung an Eb6 as the final note and this vocal arrangement was created by herself and Marco and Floor deliberatedly follows it, Plus I believe that a great cover is the one that really brings something new to the Table, not a repetition).

You are OBJECTIVELY WRONG, because ...
a) Floor sings songs that were CREATED FOR TARJA, so she "cant be better" .... and they had to adapt them to her style
b) there are still more Nightwish albums with Tarja (5) than with Anette (2) and Floor (2) combined
Let me make a guess: you started listening to the band with Floor ... so that is your baseline ... and why your perception is skewed.
No actually. I had two of their early records when i was in high school. Wishmaster and Oceanborn. I liked them then but only got those two records. Then i heard them again when i started doing reactions and heard Floor for the first time. Its not even close. I like Tarja and all. And they got their start with her. But Floor fits them better IN MY OPINION. Not only does she sing ‘Tarja songs’ very well, but she has a more diverse range with her voice than Tarja. She can do more than just operatic style. I cant be objectively wrong. Its an OPINION. If you have a problem with that leave buddy.
Maybe I would feel differently if I had listened to Nightwish before Floor but I cannot stand Tarja's voice. It hits my brain like nails on a chalkboard. This is just painful to my ears. I'd much rather listen to the version Floor did on that signing show overseas.

Floor is the best singer for Jinjer the same way she is for Nightwish and everyone would be happy with a new Janser as they are now with Floorwish.
