Today we are saying goodbye to our beloved chalkboard wall. It’s located right in the middle of our kitchen and dining room and always felt out of place here. After a year and a half of living here, it’s been a fun spot for our guests to make their mark in our home but I think it’s time to switch it up and turn it into something a bit more functional and stylish for our needs--and we did it for under $500!

Great job. It really grounds the room. I like the dark cabinet with the dark cane. That said, I think the shelf is too high. Obviously, a shelf can be any height but my OCD would need it just a tad lower. LOL!!! Keep up the good work. You & your husband make a good team.

Looks amazing. I would have also had mixed feelings about getting rid of the chalk board wall - so many memories. So taking a pic was a great idea. One suggestion- put a common top (maybe quartz countertop) to span the 2 cabinets for a more cohesive look.
Talk about visual interest😊. The space looks so much bigger, bright & beautiful! All of the accents just pulled the room together so beautifully...

The sideboard will also make a great place to serve food... especially when you have guests. I don't know if you have sewing skills, or not. I had a similar piece of furniture that I made a padded runner for. ( Or maybe it should be called a mini quilt.) I think you know what I mean. It protected the surface when I place hot containers of food. If you cannot make one, you can purchase one. Then when your guests leave, you take out your decorations for everyday use.
Quite the transformation! The chalkboard wall was super fun but I agree it was time for an upgrade. The photos will keep those memories alive.
I like that it ties in with the other wall, it looks good - it's a nice change. You can always add a caulk board to your basement entertaining area.
Tina and Brian (with a new 'do!!!) - fantastic! It looks more cohesive and like it has always been! And I agree, Tina, another chalkboard wall elsewhere!! Maybe in the projector room???

Oh Tina, that wall is looking so amazing, I liked the chalkboard wall but I agree with you about sprucing up that wall, and you did a fabulous job, that cabinet is so gorgeous, and that shelf with those brackets really functions so well, I love Wayfair and have bought so many things from them. Tina, the styling looks great with the new wall. It all flows so nicely with the dining room definitely a few steps up.
I live in a rental and have for 6 years and I just made a bunch of changes. The key to it with rentals is either do it renter friendly or now how to put it back when you move. Though I could see my landlord arguing with me about floors, but I'm pretty sure state laws count anything over 5 years as wear and tear and they have to replace carpets and flooring regardless for health guidelines.

I’ll be moving this year and we’ve had a chalkboard wall for a while. It’s behind our floating shelves in the kitchen. I’m definitely ready for a change, but lots of fun things were written on that wall. Lots of milestones documented there. I will for sure take photos of it before I leave♥️. Loved the outcome of your wall! And two cabinets that can be separated later is genius. I’m sure they’d make great nightstands or end tables, etc as well
