Among a number of things people miss about this movie is that Annie sleepwalking with the paint thinner and match is that she has always been subconsciously aware that something is wrong and she was trying to stop her mother's plan by killing her kids and herself. Her mother tried to put Paimon in Annie's father and in her brother and Joan was probably trying to do it to her grandson (I don't think that's her grandson during the seance, I think that's Paimon pretending to be the grandson and she knows that).

One thing a lot of people miss and what I haven’t seen on most youtube breakdown of this movie.
When Annie says. “That face on your face”. Its important to know. Paimon can do illusions. (basically Loki).
So when Peter sees his reflection in the glass of his classroom. He sees a smirk on his face.
This is what Annie was seeing the whole time, after charlie death and what cause the family to further self destruct

    • @noirnoir4276
      @noirnoir4276 Před 7 měsíci +33

@@solomoon3083 But paimon can still interact with the environment and was already doing so.
The reason behind this. Is the shimmering light we see throughout the movie. That’s Paimon acting.
We see that in the classroom just moments before Paimon acts on Peter and breaks his nose.
Another example is when the paint falls over, on Joann notes. Drawing Annie's attention to it. Even tho Annie didn’t touch it.
If you look in the background of that scene . You will see a shimmering of light from the window. Paimon again, gently nudging his plan forward.
Another example, When Peter begins to have a panic attack. A shimmer of light from the bleachers hits him.

I think this is where a lot of people get it wrong. Hereditary is not so much a "scary" movie, but more of a deeply disturbing one. There is a difference. Something that disturbs your psychy on a deep level, is scarier than your typical Hollywood horror movie, with simple jump scares. Hereditary truly messes with your mind. I felt unsettle for a few days after seeing it in the theater.

@@Sissysuez It did bother me for about a week after I saw it. Apparently, when the movie first came out there were reports of some people that got up and left during the movie Just because it was too much. When I saw it at the theater I remember right after the final scene the audience literally just sat there staring at the screen for like a minute. No one got up, no one talked. It was just like a collective mutual disturbed feeling in the theater. I didn't even want to talk about the movie for like an hour after I saw it with a friend. I LOVE this movie. I saw it in theaters, and I actually almost walked out when the mom found Charlie's body because it spiked my anxiety so hard that I thought I was going to have a panic attack. And that's coming from an obsessed saw fan.
The way this movie handles horror is so special. They don't rely on jumpscares with the music or quick flashes of movement. They don't hold your hand and tell you when you should be scared. They just put horrific things on screen and as your brain slowly processes what its looking at, a cold dred seeps in on its own. A good example is the naked people in the shadows. There's no musical sting to draw attention to them. Theyre easy to miss and super disturbing when you do see them. It's perfect. So much respect for this film.
When I got home from the theater I was literally shook. Because it was so unsettling. But while there was gore and stuff, a lot of the horror is relateable real life horror. The scenes of grief and arguing between the family members is so realistic. And it made me feel like I was part of the movie. Like I was with a family member who was grieving. Or I was being yelled at at the dinner table.
    It's just all so good.

Nice one guys. But someone needs to make sure that Blake hears this. To help put him at ease.
King Paimon is from medieval demonology. & is VERY accurately portrayed here. But there are a couple of mistakes that were done purely to add effect to the movie.
    1. King Paimon is actually 1 of 9 Kings in Hell. Not 8.
    2. Because of this the need to face northeast to summon him is also wrong. But helps add a bit of sense to the storytelling.
    3. The decapitation thing has nothing to do with summoning him. It was only included due to the picture we see of him with the 3 heads on his belt. But doesn't it add that bit of extra horror & drama to the story.
Other than those, spot on. Including the mom suddenly being able to float. He can bend, or even ignore, the laws of physics. & thus can make his followers rich by turning even wood into gold!
I hope that helps you sleep a little more soundly Blake 😁
I hope everyone is having an amazing week & much love to all from here in the UK

Charles is Annie’s brother, and I wonder how much input Ellen had in naming Charlie.
The first shot after the obit is the treehouse temple, and then it pans us into Peter’s room.

After watching breakdowns, there were some things I missed upon first watch due to my brightness and sound setting.
    1. When the family arrives home from the grandmother's funeral, just before they enter their home, you can hear footsteps coming from upstairs. This was supposedly the cult members making the black triangle in the grandmother's room.
    2. I missed the grandma and mother in the corners upon first watch.
I loved the movie. It wasn't necessarily scary, but the music and acting made it creepy as hell. You don't need jump scares to make a great horror.
I think I got so many chills/goosebumps through a lot of scenes:
    1. Grandma in the corner
    2. Mother crying for Charlie's death
    3. Charlie in the corner
    4. Mother being possed and speaking like her daughter
    5. Seeing the symbol and picture of Peter on Joan's table
    6. The mother going through her grandmother's photo album
    7. The mother in the corner of the room
    8. Head banging
    9. Cult members hiding in the shadows
    10. Sawing head with a piano wire

I like to point out how Annie's first exhibit was called "Small World," like the phrase we say when there's been a coincidence. Later, Annie sees the doormat and says, "my mom used to make ones just like that," and Joan replies, "huh, how funny." Basically using that same "oh, what a coincidence!" phrasing to manipulate Annie further. Because nothing is a coincidence and everything has been planned out for them. Really small detail but there's so many to talk about in this film!

If a sequel were to be done involving the storyline of the film, I think that it could work where a relative of the father's side of the family is investigating the events of the first film and ultimately has to make the decision to either kill Peter to stop Paimon or find a way to exercise Paimon without killing Peter. As an amateur horror screenwriter, I think that would be one logical storyline for a sequel. I'd watch it, at least.

As much as I’d love more content in this universe, I don’t see a sequel working. It would completely change the tone of the movie. It’d go from a horror tragedy and turn it into a more typical investigation/exorcism horror. What’s scary about this movie is that the dread and fear builds and you have no idea what the the threat is really is until the end. With Peter already possessed by Paimon, that takes away a lot of the slow burn horror.

I dislike it when people say this film is "the scariest ever." Obviously, what's scary is subjective but saying anything is the "greatest ever" sets it up of failure. Because instead of just enjoying the experience for what it is for you, you tend to watch it to see whether it lives up to the hype. With the result being "this wasnt the scariest film ever" instead "this was a well crafted film" or whatever.

I really hope they watch The Boogeyman soon. No one is really reacting to it. I don’t even scare that easily, and it scared the living shit out of me. I actually had to take breaks. Hereditary is psychologically terrifying. The Boogeyman is on a whole other level of SCARY! Blake won’t sleep for a week. Asia and Bj Reacts channel- Asia does the same thing. Watching through fingers. It’s SO cute and funny.

Two different things. The green leaf is dittany of crete. Grandma's lips get annointed with some kind of oil, used to symbolize easing the passage of the soul out of the mouth.

It's fun watching along with you guys. I've seen this previously and was a bit lost, so you've helped me understand it more. I can relate to Blake so much, made me smile. I saw Evil Dead (original) back in the early 80s - it scared me so much I spent most of the movie behind a cushion. My friends weren't much different. I think it took three goes before I saw the whole movie.

Bodies bodies bodies was released by A24. It’s more of a comedy slasher, so Blake could 100% handle it, and the ending alone makes it worth the watch.

Depending on how you look at it this movie had a happy ending. Queen Leigh was able to use her cult and her family to get a successful host and possession that she needed to meet her own ends. Even after death Leigh won.

  • @deludedreality89
    @deludedreality89 Před 4 měsíci +3

10:03 I was just rewatching this reaction again and it just hit me that at that timestamp, Paimon is actually worried about what's gonna happen to him/his current body when Annie dies. He already knows that she's gona die. Annie thinks it's her young daughter's first brush with mortality and existentialism. She thinks it's her daughter struggling with how to deal with the grief associated with the passing of someone her daughter was close to (grandma), but in reality it's just a demon worried about himself. His current caretaker (grandma) is now dead and Annie will soon die as well. That's why she doesn't seem satisfied when Annie says Dad would take care of her. Paimon knows Dad's gonna be killed, since he's not fom the bloodline.
That entire scene is crazy if you listen to Charlie's dialog from Paimon's perspective. 'She wanted me to be a boy' - Grandma wanted me (Paimon) to be put in a boy's body.
BTW, how different would the movie/story have been had Charlie been born as a boy? Annie would still try to placate her mom by letting her be involved in Charles' life, but this time the grandma would be married to Paimon in a boy's body instead of how she's married to him in Charlie's body (that's why the cult members are showering her with gold - riches to the conjurer like the book mentions - and she's wearing a wedding dress at such an old age. That was grandma's wedding with Paimon. It's also why she's referred to as 'Queen Leigh'. She's married to King Paimon). No other killings would have been immediately necessary and it'd be about the tragedies that slowly befall a family due to Paimon's unseen influence in their life.

1:38:14 - Blake, A24 does have a few horror films it is NOT what they are known for, AT ALL. They produced The Whale, Everything Everywhere All at Once, Moonlight, Spring Breakers, The Bling Ring, Ex Machina, Room, Swiss Army Man, Lady Bird, The Disaster Artist, Uncut Gems, Marcel The Shell With Shoes On, Beau is Afraid, Priscilla, The Iron Claw, and Tuesday. That is an extremely SHORT list of their BEST non-horror films over the past few years. They continue to SWEEP the Oscars, year after year.
