  • This composition originally started as a short waltz. I liked the melody and wanted to see how it sounded with arpeggiated accompaniment and a longer form. When composing it I tried to make it in sonata form originally, as we've been talking about them in my theory class the past few weeks, but in the end it ended up being sort of through composed? I really don't know how you'd categorize it, but it felt right. Much of this piece is centered around the use of dissonances as pangs of the heart or emotional jab, as well as the transformation of the cantabile melody over the course of the piece. We see this character grow and morph through both sorrow, excitement, passion, confusion, loss, anger and rebirth. Or at least, that was my attempt going in.
I'm happy with this piece, it definitely feels like a step in the right direction. I really didn't like the cadenza, but I plan to improvise during that section as I learn this piece. If I find something better, I'll release a second edition with some new edits. Generally I leave my compositions as they are and move onto the next so I can look back and see how much I've grown.
EDIT The file for this composition got corrupted, so I'm releasing it as is and moving onto the next.
Anyways, hope you enjoy! Let me know your thoughts and thank you for listening!
