Why is it always the "bad" guys who want to see eternity? Of all characters, Lex Luthor summed it up the best when he said, "I want to see how it ends". Was everything worth it? The empire buildings? The heroic sacrifices? In the end, will any of it have mattered or will the side that prevails be what carries us into the next phase? And what of the lone survivor then?

All things come to an end, even of most don't recognise the scale of it when their own life is short. What you achieve won't matter in a few centuries time when everyone who could tell your tapęs would be dead and you'd drift into obscurity, forgotten in favour of something new.
Humans are driven by self preservation, the fear of death is what drives them to seek immortality. What is left to fear when the overwhelming dread of your own mortality no longer hangs overhead?
In the end, when all is set and done, you'll be alone. The last member of a species that died off a long time ago, if you could still call yourself that given that Evolution would have changed everyone around you to something alien while you remained the same until the differences would have forced you to hide or be hunted by a race barely the one you were a part of. I just thought of another horrible thing about the Daleks: The Doctor forever effectively destroyed the Time Lords and the Daleks to end their war. But throughout history he has to keep on seeing each and every time that the Daleks rise again, while the Time Lords do not. And each time he is reminded of that sacrifice, and of how it didn't work

This is why I personally don't like the concept of immortality. For eternity, the life and death of several universes, even the birth and collapse of an infinity of multiverses is not even a drop in that which we call eternity.
Its why, some of us never choose it.
You can get your arm blown off, you legs cease to work, all your motor functions cease, but being immortal, they come back.
But there is one thing that cannot come back, people who aren't. People who live and die, in a short time.

Only after the fact.... Everything in the here and now is the eternity we live in. A week, a month, a year, decade, century, it's looking back seeing a blur of faces, events, places. They become more emotion than memory...

Life is a pie, in the beginning the pie is whole and uncut every moment seems forever but you don't know nor care because no one has cursed you with time yet. Then we begin to grow and age, someone comes along and curses us with time and time begins to slice the pie into ever smaller sections. The sections of a pie are like moments of life the more moment section there are the faster they go by. In life each day seems slightly shorter than the last as life races towards its end, where the final slice is made and some pies never get many slices and life never seems filled with short days but still feels very short that is the curse of time. Other pies get sliced many times and each moment seems to pass before you can enjoy it and then life ends and every pie slice had become so small that the whole pie lost all meaning another curse of time.
Do we live long enough that eventually nothing matters or will life be so short that we never get the chance to matter?
For an immortal the pie is infinite and no matter how many moments pass and matter how many slices they never have any meaning and the pie never changes. An immortal never lives long enough to matter and nothing ever gets to matter to them as they are never cursed with time but instead denied time altogether.
Actually, that's the point of the shepherd's story. A second for them it's not a decade. By the time the bird would have finished the mountain, the whole Earth, the whole Solar System with the Sun itself would have vanished. And yet for the immortal this does not matter. It's all the same.
Forget the sci fi aspect to Doctor Who, THIS video embodies every thing that's right about the show. The relationships, feelings, emotions and attitudes of the psyche. (Human or otherwise). What a beautiful piece x

I don’t know why but the tenth doctor specifically breaks my heart. David Tennant is such an amazing actor, he brings so much emotion to these type of scenes, he just kills me with sadness.

That's what we always say. Those who know they are broken inside always say that we will be alright, will be fine or okay. We know we won't be happy or good but we know we will keep on going because that's life. It's our only option; to keep going on through the travails of life, baring more or less of a burden with the shifting sands and twists of living. After a time, we forget what's it like to be happy, to feel joy or even love, for me atleast. To be broken so deep down, right at the very core, so much so that being broken becomes a part of who you are; is one of life's greatest tragedies. I myself know this because I feel it. I get asked if I'm good etc, I merely reply "I'm alive atleast" or just respond in the affirmative. The past and future start to become one, both desolate and full of pain because you can't see a way to mend that crack in the core of your being. I don't mean to wallow or grieve, I am unsure if this even is the truth. Alas to my perception, it would indeed be the reality I face.
@@hammer1349 When I feel this way I always have to remind myself to just live in the moment. Happiness does not come from the past or the future, because just like the Doctor says, time is an illusion. The past and future do not exist, all that really exists is the present moment. That's the only place where you can find happiness. Also when I say live in the moment, I don't mean to not work towards goals, I just mean to enjoy the process of working your butt off to achieve your goals. Also sometimes all I have to do to feel better is just walk outside and look around, and just notice every detail of everything around me, and it becomes obvious how beautiful life really is.

Peter Capaldi was such a dramatic actor when he expressed his emotion and pain you felt it. You could see it in his face. To me he's was a perfect doctor for his time. All the memories and frustration and loss I feel like only he could express that in that way and nobody else

I just hope that Jodie comes more into the part of the 'all knowing' Doctor role we all love as opposed to the 'What the hell is going on, opened mouth version' so far.
Apparently the timeless child arc was supposed to be during the 6th or 8th Doctor's run, but they delayed it and the show got cancelled before they recorded it.

Well, we now know that never happend and instead they killed the show. Doctor Who ended with Peter Capaldi and it is a shame that they shit on the legacy. And Jodie played her part in that crime. I really miss Doctor Who. :(

Maybe she was right when she said it. Maybe our human life is short compared to a Time Lord. Like the firebird Jack told about once. It's really burning and very small. And it's just living for a few minutes. But the colours are so Beautiful and it's burning so bright, that you have to close your eyes. And when you're opening them again, it's gone. But the image of it is burned into your eyes and your brain and you're always remembering it.
Maybe the Doctor is lonely. But all these persons. Rose and Martha, even Donna. Especially Amy and Clara and also Bill.

2:39 when he said "im scared,im so scared" i felt that. I feel that everyday thinking about reality, time, space, consciousness, of what can be and what can never be, and to be surrounded by people that are not affected by this line of thinking makes me feel alone so alone and makes things seem dark.
Seeing the 10th Doctor sad makes me sad.
One of my greatest fears is always being alone. One day my parents will pass, and my sister will go somewhere else. I'll be alone, with no husband or child. Worse yet, I suffer from depression and anxiety.
My best friends will have their own lives. One will be busy with a baby, one is far away, and the other I rarely get to see.
Being alone is maddening, and the silence is killer. No one to talk to, no one to cheer you up, no one with a shoulder to cry on. No one telling you that there's a light at the end of the tunnel.
I wish the Doctor was real, because I can definitely relate to the loneliness.
It's maddening, it's pain. All you want to do is do anything to be rid of it.
Surviving is possible. Depression, grief, guilt, suicide. And that possible leads to better. Humans are like who the Doctor is built from scratch and changing.

The expression on matt's face at 4:10 is the perfect example for me of why he's my favourite, the grim smile and subtly joyful tone in his voice contrasts so sharply with the haunted look in his eyes and the completely willing admittance that he's alone, and that nothing he does can change that.

Doctor Who lets me live my adventure fantasies vicariously. I always feel so alone, but I always imagine going on amazing journeys with people I love, but in the end people leave... and I can't have such incredible adventures. I so want to get back into DW. Thank you for all of the tributes you've made, I've watched so many of them and they never fail to make me emotional.

Absolutely beautiful! Every time I watch this I cry because Doctor who is such a layered show you sometimes forget the truly raw pain the doctor carries with him through every lifetime.
Some of the best Doctor Who content I have ever seen. I loved it! It made me cry, and feel happy, and just really refresh my memory not what the Doc has to go though every darn day of eternity. Love it
the more of these I watch, I can't help but think of how little 13 there is. I think that's a testament to much power 9, 10, 11, and 12 gave. 9 was only around a little while, but he was scores more impactful than some many of the other doctors past and present, and how a video like this makes you think maybe it is time to let the traveling mad man rest in his box.

I feel like 12 was such a combination. A bit of 9-10-11. But Peter showed it so well, he went from the fiery character of 9 to the one who moved on (11) and the heroic like 10. But with a sense of his own character.

The sad thing we never admit is that only a few people ever feel alone the way the doctor does, putting the universe and trillions of lives before his always doing his best but he still loses everything and everyone and he just has to live with it, so everytime he loses a friend or family or yes even a foe the deathaning amount of loneliness he feel greatly increases each time and we only see parts of his lives just imagine what we missed and how much more he's lossed
