Set in 14th-century Europe, Manor Lords is a city-builder game which also includes real-time tactical warfare. The game's three different modes, titled Rise to Prosperity, Restoring the Peace, and On the Edge, are differentiated by the aspects they focus on: Rise to Prosperity and On the Edge respectively emphasize growth through city-building and conquest through warfare, while Restoring the Peace gives a more balanced experience. The game offers a degree of customizability, with players able to adjust in-game values such as starting position and off-map threats.
The city-building aspects focus on expanding an initially-small settlements through gathering resources and expanding trading networks, while managing threats to the settlement's internal cohesion. The game's emphasis on in-depth historical accuracy means players must manage six individual types of taxation, and balance quick growth with natural aspects such as weather and the possibility of environmental degradation. Manor Lords, normally viewed through a top-down isometric perspective, also includes a feature which enables players to explore their settlements using a third-person camera mode.

Luke, did you mean to turn your comments+replies section off on your live show? Just curious.
Luke from the bottom of my heart you need a new thumbnail game brother
So... People should complain, that's how you get s the developers to address things.
Hey Luke have you heard that Xbox insider leaked said Xbox wants a fallout 5 as soon as possible so they may hand it over to obsidian
@@atushub9995 Obsidian will be busy for the next few years with Outer Worlds 2 and (I think)Avowed 2.
Finally, a colony sim game where you can play as an avatar instead of hovering above the town like an ethereal god.
Yes instead of an ethereal god you get to play human walking around just like jesus
@@bemboing4338 Grilled Cheesus.
You can't actually play as the avatar. The walking around is just a nice way to view the settlement, there's no actual gameplay with the character.
It's more like your Lord in Stronghold.
Your shoes are sick as well.
the 3rd person walking around your village sold it for me
played it a few minutes and I'm already in love with it. Incredible how much it adds to the immersion.
You cant do anything in that mode though
â@user-kv1kj9pn8p no reason to do anything. It's a city build sim mainly. Thats what's lacking in city skylines. Since you don't have an own bloodline or something like that, your character isnt really there. It's just an immersive way to have a walk through your village.
Don't get why people always want more. Why not change it into an rpg and add armors and weapons to buy. And naval warfare. đ
â@@zlotywest860fr, modern gamers ask for way too much without realizing, then get mad that every game is trying to be an all in one RPG.
@@zlotywest860 Calm down. I was just stating that you can't do anything in that mode if that's what sold it for him. No need for a Reddit post
Insane how this was made by one single developer
My friend just told me this Iâm impressed by this one person to make a game like this
It was started by one guy, there is a small team behind it. None the less , very well done!
â@MixMeister5000 mostly still one guy. He hires temporary contractors for some stuff.

@@druid4243yep still only one permanent dev (this is his baby). But of course he commissioned the music and some assets. But the code has all been written by him.
Game: has tool that allows you to build irregular plots.
American: Let's build grid shaped suburbs!
I thought the same thing. My town looks like a mess of inefficiency while Luke's looks like a suburb of Dallas, Texas.
Why are Europeans obsessed with us đđđ
â@@Mr.Byrnes I don't want to type a rant but a nauseating vain comment like yours prompts me to. I don't want to think about Americans, but our lives are constantly bombarded with the influences of american corporocracy and value systems, down to our very traditions and lifestyle disappearing in favor of American-influenced superficial mass-culture. An early access game built by one person outperforming AAA multi million dollar game is the literal epitome of the game industry now days đ
Reminds me of the good old days when private developers were putting out loads of Atari 2600 games before the monopolies took over.
Also tells you everything you need to know when publishers want to sell you the lie that game development is so expensive now and takes so long.
Well, only if youâre incompetent, inefficient, have bad management and if you needlessly spend hundreds of millions on marketing.
Iâm not footing the bill for all that.
The answer is very simple. In Poland we have many excellent programmers who love to play.
Good because Polish ;-)
@@Lock2002ful Of course it's cheap when you have some dude working on the game for free. Another story when you have a few hundred people strong team who all earn 100+ grand a year.
@@Wimbold
Itâs hilarious if you really think that game developers in big studios earn 100+ grand a year.
You apparently also failed to properly read my comment where I mentioned several reasons as to why these so called AAA games are so expensive and take so long.
Not one of the reasons I mentioned was size of the studio or high wages.
people need to remember there is a difference between a multi million dollar company putting out early access a week before the launch as a paid bonus and a solo dev putting it in early access to get actual feedback
Yes. And people need to realise that pointing out problems is feedback that the dev has asked for and is the whole point of EA. Some tend to be knee jerk reaction defensively, putting down any identified problems with: "Shut up!! It's early access!!!".
After watching shogunâŠ..I want this but in feudal Japan! Imagine designing your own castle and adding traps for intruders/raiders.

Blows my mind the requirements for PC being so low. Next level optimization from such a small team
Meanwhile you have fallout 4 running at 70 fps on a 4090.... diference between a good developer and a trash one

Less than 15gb total download too. You love to see it

I don't get how you can say the preparation aspect of the military is a weakness ??? It would go against the whole scheme of the game if you just go to battle at any time without collecting the necessary resources and equipment.

Luke just going with the good old american grid style
If by American you mean Helenic society that had been using grid planning since 2600BC, then sure.

A medieval city builder that's got so much hype around it that even Luke Stephens covered it.

Wait whaAh? Fr fr?
The background music in the beginning bought back that Witcher 3 nostalgia.
The music is so good
Whoever made this game is exceptionally talented, should be given some kinda game award.
That army was not there to attack you. They were there to attack the bandits for the other lord thatâs off the map
Games really good after 2 hours.
It isn't pointlessly hard, but you can amp up the difficulty if you want. The way the roads and buildings snap into place makes this really easy to play. It isn't hard at all to make it the way you want.
Lots of resouce management. You have to take people away from foragers huts in the winter, and then use them in something else. All of this is easy and pretty much self explanatory. Really easy play here.
Hope modders get in there and do their thing too
I was happy to see that the Steam reviews are pretty good so far. I bought a copy of the game just to support the dev.
Looking forward to trying the game when I get off work.
it is a good game. Best city builder ive played in a long time. The way the roads and buildings snap into place makes it a pleasing experience.
What if this is a game to us, but actually, we are affecting the reality of real people in an alternate timeline where these are actual real people?
Villager: "WHY GOD! WHY IS THERE FAMINE AND WAR!?"
Luke: "Whops..."
That's the plot of an episode of Stargate Atlantis.
I'm glad people seem to be enjoying this game. Hopefully it keeps being supported for a while because there's so much they could add if they wanted.
Thereâs so much that should and likely will be added, but even as a small early access it is still very fun.
I think it is necessary to complain about poor features even in early access. That's the point of letting people play it, right?
People are so goofy that they will purchase a game that is openly and very clearly in Early Access and then complain as if it's the final product. Don't complain! Report your thoughts thoroughly and let the company build from your feedback.
And they go on about how they are so looking forward to the HUGE BATTLES that will be better than total war. Even though the developer has announced it's not a war game, it's a city builder that ends with a few small battles.
Holy all this is for one developer? this is the real future of gaming a new generation of independent and passionated game developers
I can't wait to play. I bought and downloaded it this morning before work
In the 2000s, there was a medieval city building sim called Medieval Lords. I wonder if it inspired this new one. Impressed that it's all by one developer. Well done !
Really looking forward to this now all my friends have stopped playing Tarkov, time to step back on a solo trip this and Frostpunk 2 will be getting looked at
The state of tarkov rn makes me so sad
I stopped playing tarkov yesterday. Great timing.
@@witu_low I bet a lot of people stopped playing Tarkov recently, since they announced that money grab.
@@CHAOSMOVEMENTwhat was the controversy? Havenât played in ages
@@levipeterken4020 Some ordinary gamers made a video on the controversy.
It would be great if this game could customize the appearance and clothing of lords in the future, and even have a family system.
In other words, having your own home allows you to see your family walking around the city at any time.
You can even hire subordinates or assign family members to manage certain positions for you. If these features are added in the future, this game will be worth playing for me.
Thank you for your kind and fair review! đ
I really do see myself playing this game a lot. It really gives me Banished vibes and it is fun to watch the people build while an avatar. And the bandits add a little bit of diversion for the day to day building and harvesting.
I got it the day it came out and been hyped for it for ages. Suffice to say that I'm mostly very pleased with the game so far! I began to grasp the sheer scale of a single gameplay loop when I expanded into my second territory and remembered that the end goal of the basic game is to command every territory on the map while I've already sunk over 15 hours into just one (huge farming village, all those morgans need lots of people to farm them) plus the first tier progression of a second.
Only real complaint so far is the timing of the farming system. The system is set so that harvest must be done by October, so you MUST have all your crops harvested by the end of September or you will lose them by the game "resetting" a field for the winter. and changing it to whatever your next crop rotation is. This proves to be rather inconvenient if some of your fields have fallen a bit behind on the harvest schedule. I've repeatedly lost anywhere from a quarter to several morgans worth of crops. I tried to fix the situation by simply preparing the fields sooner, i.e. plowing and sowing my wheat in the fall and letting it overwinter (actually how it's done irl) to then begin growing on its own in the spring, which would give me a little more time come August/September to get things harvested. As it stands, this hasn't worked for me, as the farmers will just re-plow and sow the already plowed fields once the snow is gone. If you have large fields and are trying to maintain the food/population balance while still having enough people to work the fields in a timely fashion, the October reset is a challenge to get around.
I absolutely agree. 19:20 Thank you Luke for the wonderful video as always. Going to buy the game now. I think itâs still on sale đź
Wait you get your actually explore your town instead of just hovering it?? Thatâs amazing
He puts big studios in a light of shame. In addition he needs our support!
Black and white but more realistic. Looks beautiful! I loved B&W, so I'm into this too. Hope going to full release goes smoothly and people will be patient and understanding.
I am usually not a fan of these games, but it is so easy on the eyes and even the ui is kinda lofty. a chill game and incredible feat by the dev
Knights and merchants used to be my favorite game as a kid, I was kinda giving up on the genre because nothing was done with it
until I heard for this game and I couldn't be happier
Definitely is a niche, good on the devs for putting the work in to dial into this kind of market! đ
Been playing this since yesterday. It's like a nice up-to-date cross between Banished and Streets of Sim City.
This was made by one guy. The future is crazy. We will see entire AAA level games made by a handful of people that can compete with entier teams from today. Yes, things like Unreal lower the bar to entity for bad games. But that's worth it to get more good games and creative ideas. Cool stuff, uk.
This looks amazing! Very promising đ
Grow some aloe vera plants, and harvest a leaf every day and put the gooey stuff on the rashes. The rashes will go away and you will have much better skin overall.
Vit A and zinc can also help greatly.
Dang, this looks graphically awesome. I hope the devs see the success they're hoping for :D
Awesome video, thanks! đđ
Also keep in mind: its made by 1 person!!! It's amazing!
I was thinking this was going to be a modern version of âDefender of the Crownâ for those who remember that old classic on the Amiga. Looks more like Sim-city in feudal times, which is also cool.
Itâs still pretty rough for an early release, but I bought it to support this developer as it looks promising
Luke, that first unit you were trying to rally was your retinue. You don't have to have enough equipment to kit an entire unit, just as many weapons as you have.
What really excites me about this is it feels like the developer is making a game they'd want to play. And they probably will. So they care about it actually being fun to play.
A lot of these big cash grabs, the people in charge of it aren't going to play it, so they don't care if it's fun. I don't need extremely high tech realistic graphics, it can look like Fable for all I care, as long as it's fun.
Imagine if Dwarf Fortress looked like this
I would play the F out of it.... I canÂŽt play dwarf fortress (even with updated graphics), the movement of units make my eyes hurt after a while.
@@michalvoh same, I would be totally fine if movement at least flowed, but the frame by frame movement makes me tired

5:31 Very British Medieval Peasant there Luke đđ
Someone needs to make a mod that replaces the third person character to the Burger King.
If this gameplay be like Stronghold Crusader but with better graphics, fight scenes, controls, building etc. I am sold.
I am thinking of trying it this weekend.
For some reason this is really making me miss the Black & White franchise. Great video as always Luke!
This will probably be really cool in like 4 or 5 years!
i get dark cloud nostalgia when im walking around my village
I hope they add stone buildings. Like advancing to using stone instead of wood and then be able to build castles and stuff. Just for fun. Wanna make a very disciplined people surrounded by stone walls and then take over the map.
Same. I think the map is way too small to allow for that kind of evolution.
My lord is named "Wei Longdong"
This game would have been a dream for the 20 years old me, but I'm not into this as I used you ,still I'm really tempted to get it.
Just hope the updates arrive quickly enough. Replayability isn't there yet
I just really hope one day the devs or a crazy modder add the bannerlord battle mechanics.
Iâm not a fan of sim games, but I am a fan of you and your content so I watched this video in its entirety đ
This game reminds me of the Stronghold series, down to crafting every single weapon and armor your fighters are going to use. Still, it's nice to see that inspiration mixed with more modern gameplay.
The thing that bothers me about this game is the map. There's no sense of exploration when you can just zoom out and see the whole map in the shape of a "square" and its regions within that square. They reallly need to come out with procedural map generation.
5:45 In fairness, another game called Ostriv already did this years ago. I mean they don't show two people cutting wood with a saw horse (IIRC) but they do show it slowly being put together piece by piece in a detailed manner and I do remember it actually showing villagers physically putting things in place like beams, where in this game those things just kind of appear in place.
Iâm very excited for this game. Hope itâll be worth it.
Hello. If anyone's brutally obsessed with purely hardcore Medieval warfare and society I strongly recommend Schwerpunkt's videos series
Wow, I just canât look at it! Luke, you are one of the best guys on youtube, but what did you expect? Modern town layout really wonât work
Very excited for the game
Everything's going pretty well, but i encountered bugs such as livestock grazing on crop fields, traders getting stuck at trade building, warning notification about not enough stables even though i have 25 small stables (20/50 spaces). Still, the game is ok for early access.
Now, what I don't like about the region management is the fact that they are programmed to be completely separate states. I wish the Dev could just combine the different owned lands and make the people go in and out freely.
I just want a Banished + game. And this seems to be exactly that for me.
Though I might still go and mod Banished for the 300th time and play that again as well.
Sir, where is place to buy the castle behind you!!!!!
How many builds are there? Can you build a wall?
How many differet units are there?
Is there a era upgrade? So from sticks > wood > stone > bricks > metal > titanium age?
- or does we only get wooden buildings forever?
Thereâs hardly stages, mostly goes in tiers to thatch-stone-brick
I'd like to try this game but not sure if its' for me. For builders they are usually relaxing at first but then the bigger towns get it's a game of chase trying to meet demands
10:36 Sounds like Re-rolling on Remnant 2
YOU should be able to rebuild slowly but surely with supplies and help from the neighbouring places for a fee or cut of future resources
I understand the whole early access thing. The thing that bothers me is that excuse can only take you so far. There are tons of games that spend many, many, oh so many years in early access. At some point, devs need to squat or get off the pot.
this game is soooo much fun in the early stages and has sooooooooooooooooooooo much potential
9:47 Policies.. Ie PEASANT TAX! đ
I canât wait to lose my life to this game - thanks for the rundown Luke!!
"No last minute saves." So, just like real life then. That's a thumbs up from me.
Looks amazing :D
Giving me Stronghold vibes and im here for it
Early access is excuse in most case and it literally says on steam page it MAY OR MAY NOT be finished. Also this is just one guy working on it so if u dont like what current game is, better dont buy.
Thanks for the chapters in the video, makes it very easy to find the part I'm interested in.
Wish it had fantasy elements feel like realism holds back how much a game can be
Weâre now at the point one single person can make a better game than Ubisoft.
Where's Henry though? Need Henry to come wandering through following some plot thread before getting drunk with a priest and causing some chaos as a random event.
Kinda remains me of the game Banished, also made by two guys. This game look sick! đ
You should try Ostriv too.
i just wish the playstyle of mount and blade was included in the game, there hasnt been a more appropriate game to introduce it to, thats the only thing keeping me from getting this
I so badly wanted to lead an army into combat as well as set up the battle plan.
bannerlord needs way more stuff to do. Its currently a loot simulator with some late game logistics. beautiful yet shallow
@@ArtilleryAffictionado1648 Absolutely agree. So much potential there and the battles are incredible but the campaign map really needs a lot of work.
@@ArtilleryAffictionado1648 yea I agree, thats why I'm proposing this aren't i??
Imagine with me, battles like in bannerlord, where you rally your army to all of the kingdoms and take em, mixed with manor lords base building, no 2 playthrus will feel the same, take over small town, build a city out of em along with a bit of Skyrim, where npcs give you missions and from time to time you can recruit some of them who are better than the average soldier all of that and one last thing, customisation feature for your soldiers, you can customize their Armor, color, mount, weapons and if they introduce stances like in ghost of tsushima then even that, thing is these games hand in hand have the potential to be a strategical warfare masterpiece of the generation
And I've personally wanted it for years
@@CHAOSMOVEMENT well if it's possible to put this whole new mechanic in an update, then the devs might do it, given most of the playerbase want the same thing
The purpose of early access is to have the community help build the game through constant feedback. There will always be rough edges but it helps give the developer guidance to finish the game. Which the game should launch in EA very feature complete. Baldurs gate 3 is probably the best example of EA. People are just dumb and like to complain. Manor lord is also on Xbox gamepass for free
i will try this when its a bit more " done "
Also available via Xbox Game Pass PC.
For somebody new to this genre of game, would this be a really difficult game to pick up on, then? It seems that way at least, from what the video shows. Sorry if this was answered already in the video!
Reminds me of stronghold crusaders
One thing to critique - the term "early access" has become this scapegoat for a lot of game publishers to cash in early, NOT saying this goes for Manor Lords, just pointing it out.
I don't care if the game is unfinished, I am buying it right now it just looks amazing. Also the fact that only 1 developer made it is even crazier...
Im more excited for Bellwright or whatever its called, just came out too
just another EA game that pushes the half finished game with youtube hype and then never getting finished
