    I think what people don't understand from the video is that he's not talking about regular gambling where there a licences and rules.
    He's talking about the unregulated gambling where minors can gamble, where they don't check if you can gamble that much and that it is a real addiction that you get easily when you are a minor

      licensed gambling ain't much more ethical than unlicensed. We use the word licensed and regulated to somehow convince ourselves its inherently okay, but it's still excessively predatory. You can literally get banned from casinos, at least in the US, for counting cards, which isn't cheating! Just means you got a good memory and understand probability and the casino will be like, "no, that's unfair." Gambling, not even amongst children, but amongst adults is often considered the most lethal addiction simply because of suicide

    • @ethhics
      @ethhics Před 10 měsíci +5

      ohne plays a big part in getting kids addicted to unregulated gambling. Not as in shady gambling websites, but cs:go cases, which is also unregulated. Any kid can buy a paysafecard from the gas station and gamble away their pocket money. I have no idea why he reacted to this since he should feel called out aswell

      @@shrek1onDVD Licensed casinos undergo oversight, ensuring fairness, player protection, and responsible gambling. They're accountable to regulations, offer dispute resolution, and contribute to local economies. Unlicensed casinos lack these safeguards, making licensed ones more ethical and responsible choices. These are all points mentioned in the video.
      No matter how lucky you are (or unlucky) we have to remember that casinos naturally operate to generate revenue.
      Practices like banning people for counting cards all comes down to local laws for private companies. If you don't agree with these practices then you shouldn't be gambling in that casino in the first place. This is something I would consider the customers responsibility, as such practices would be stated in a Terms of Service clause.

    If it involves any sort of real world currency to acquire than it should be considered gambling. The second money is involved that's when people get in trouble. If CS Cases were self contained with case currency being acquired through gameplay alone with the only money needed being the set price of the game then the problem would squarely fall on the third party sites but valve charges you real money for a chance at something, that sounds like the classic definition of gambling.

    Gambling shouldnt be illegal, but all online gambling should be illegal, no matter if its regulated. The fact that we all automatically by simply having access to the internet, whether by phone or computer, means we all have slot machines in our house and in our pockets at all times is wild, you don't even have to go to the casino anymore. If I'm not allowed to have a casino put a physical slot machine in my house that's still in use for gambling purposes, why should I then be allowed to use my computer to play slots? It's the same thing

    The best way to open cases is by quick opening them and not letting the slot machine visual play as that thing is not just a harmless visual. It causes the "near miss effect" (UC Berkley published a paper titled The Psychology of the Near Miss), which can lead to a gambling addiction.
    I don't think ohne has a gambling addiction, and I know that with the case openings he does, he is gambling what he can afford. But, chatters might look at his openings and be temped to open cases, and who knows what their financial status is like.

    If you truly want to cut the gambling mechanics as much as possible from your content you could:
    1. Always show cost and odds of the openings and trade-ups right before doing them, including average outcome (expected loss)
    2. Completely edit out the roll/slot machine part AND your inital dopamin/gambling reaction
    The latter point is 100% the gambling mechanics and a trigger for your audience. This would obviously take away much of the excitement from your content, but that also highlights just how central gamling actually is to what you do.
    I absolutely respect the fact that you do this first and foremost because of your passion for the skins, and don't question your motives of doing what you do. But make no misstake, constantly uploading videos of yourself rolling the CSGO-slotmachine and your dopamine fuled reaction when winning, is for sure contributing to gambling addiciton, regardsless of your reasons for doing it.
    I'm not saying that you are bad for doing what you are doing now, I'm not even saying that it would be resonable for you to do this considering how much it would affect the excitement in your content/potentially your income, I'm just pointing out what you could do to minimize your contribution to this eco-system.

    • @Sanguinaryyy
      @Sanguinaryyy Před 10 měsíci +1

      It's all about raising awareness of the risks and consequences. Gambling should purely be about the entertainment of getting lucky and not about the hopes of making money.
      If all the risks has been unfolded beforehand and you still choose to ignore that, can you really blame the individual who chooses to promote such entertainment?
      Removing the slot machine part will essentially remove the majority of the entertainment bit. Dopamine is the driving factor so it's indeed tricky.

    • @somethingelse836
      @somethingelse836 Před 10 měsíci +6

      @@Sanguinaryyy In my view it is about more than awareness.
      As I said, Ohne is very actively contributing to this eco-system by uploading his gambling and reactions to thousands of minors, who (for some insane reason) also have acess to the same slotmachines designed to maximize gambling (addiction).
      "THIS FEELING! OMG I FEEL SO ALIVE RIGHT NOW!! OMG, I'M SO ADDICTED I THINK" - Ohnes own words from the video.
      Again, I'm not blaming Ohne for his motives, I'm just saying that he/we can't ignore the outcome, which clearly contributes to this eco-system.

Considerable or consistent losses incurs contact from your exchange/broker. For any of the conventional market brokers, at least in the UK, will be like this. For Crypto exchanges, that want to comply with UK FCA laws; they will need to do the same. I do know Binance (the biggest crypto exchange) have self exclusion options.

      Yes, CS is obviously a game made for adults, but companies that make these type of games must be aware that there’s no verification to stop underage players, so the possibility of underage gambling must be known.

Those credits allow you to buy things on steam, hence it's real money. It only hurts people to think otherwise. I'm talking about video game companies in general with this next statement, but the fact we've allowed companies to literally create their own currencies is straight up wild. Robux, V-bucks, whatever R6 siege money is called. It's insane. They wouldn't be allowed to print their own physical currency, but since it's digital it's somehow okay? Also doing that would ruin a lot of people who use the counterstrike market as a ligitment stream of income. The gambling is bad, many games have loot boxes that cost money, but no way to sell thoses items such as in overwatch 1 so item are at a stuck price and no way to sell the skins besides accounting. No the bar shouldn't do anything its your fault! Wtf are you? 14? 15? C'mon, wake up, if you dont care about other people just remember that if someday you end up in a similar situation, the others could think the same about you.

      This has to be the dumbest take I have seen this year. That is the same thing as if the police would tell you that it is your problem if your house is being robbed because you bought it with your money

    Cases aint gambling since you always get something back and that's why they wont stop with it.
    You have to make a line somewhere and if you say cases are gambling then so many products in the world get banned, like surprise eggs but even card boosters etc.
    28:06 that's just plain wrong, yes valve is basically rewarding you, but not with a discount to open it, BECAUSE of their market you could just sell it and buy a game or accumulate and buy some hardware.
    And kids don't work so they can't have any money, if their parents give them money then they should monitor what they spent it on.

      That is bullshit. Cases by definition are gambling. You’re putting in a monetary investment with the option of either making money or losing money completely by chance. There’s no strategy behind it, or ways to get back your losses except by gambling more.

    Bro if this guys ruins gambling in gonna be pissed ong. Not my fault kids hop on this game and gamble monitor them. And its not my fault people have no self control. I've actually profited off of my skins so screw u for tryna ruin it bc of the mentally challenged. I advocate for regulation Online gambling regulations should be established across the board and drop rates should be verified and monitored.

      That is also what he is saying too. Much of what Jeff has mentioned is the fact that it's mostly not regulated and has caused issues for people that they would have more resources to stop a problem that right now doesn't exist. If it was regulated these videos wouldn't have even come out because Jeff said he was finally going to consider taking a gambling sponsor but then it opened up this wormhole of unregulated and misleading websites. Also plenty of people believe they are up that aren't up. I never really had a problem with it but I believed I was up because of some skins I've won but when I looked back I was like just under even (less than $10)
