    2nd year Kindergarten teacher here from Texas! I also work at a title 1 school where it is very diverse. And everything you are saying about behaviors is exactly like the school I work at. Somedays are amazing and somedays are bad. We also have a very hard time finding subs and usually have to split our classes when one of us is out.

      1st year 4th grade teacher at a title 1 district in Texas as well. We're experiencing the same issues. Splitting classes can be great some days because I can cover so much ( I'm content based) but other days it's just ugh. And somehow it always happens when the day is already starting off bad.

    1st grade, Title 1 school in Southwest Missouri. At least at our school, behaviors really depend on the day. However, I have a super chill class this year. I can't say the same for one of our middle schools.... We definitely have a sub shortage! I feel like there's even more of a sub shortage outside elementary.

    I taught at a rough, rough school for 3 years. A ton of high behaviors. But now I am at a smaller school farther from the city and the kids have more support at home, thus they are better behaved in the classroom. You’re right, so much depends on home life. 🙌

I teach on a military base, so my students vary from enlisted to officers kids. This is a good year behavior wise. All of our subs are currently in long term position because we are short 4 classroom teachers. Where did your 3 kids go during the party time? You might have mentioned this before but where are you moving to next year? Have a great week.

    I teach in a Title 1 school in NC and it sounds very much like your school. It is very diverse. We do have behaviors but the majority of the students behave for the most part. We, too, have a huge sub shortage. Our school is having to pull our K=1 teacher assistants to sub when teachers have to be out. I feel really bad for those K-1 teachers because they are teaching without an assistant. Even when they think they will have their assistant and plan for it, something almost always comes up to where that TA needs to be pulled. They wonÂŽt allow us to combine kids because of contact tracing and only exposing students to the same people every day. We have seating charts that follow them to all three classes and resource because they have to sit in the same seat number around the same students. We have had several students test positive. I was quarantined for two weeks because of a positive student who I work with a lot in small group and one on one.

    There was a full moon on Wednesday, October 20, and that is probably why the students were misbehaving. It is not a myth about how a full moon affects people. I work at a Title 1 school with many students from lower income families. Substitute teachers are everywhere, especially because of the pandemic. Kids used to be split up in the past, but due to the health restrictions, it is not allowed. I hope that your eyelid feels better. Take care.

    I would never sub again. The teachers where I am from are so mean. The kids were great! I subbed for a class for 7 months and those teachers were awful. I took on all the "teacher" roles. Such as, parent teacher conference, meetings, teacher work days, car rider lines, etc. I wouldn't get paid for all the extras. Plus, I'm in college to become a teacher. That is one thing I would never treat subs the way I was treated. I am talking about the other "team" teachers for the grade.
    I can tell you now, many subs are tired of being treated as less because they do not have a bachelor's degree.

      That is soo very wrong I’m sorry that has happened to you . I experience that just with my lab hours for school :/ The teachers don’t even acknowledge me. I see everyone here say they don’t need their bachelors to sub. My location requires a bachelors :/ to even sub.

    • @meganinalaska
      @meganinalaska Pƙed 2 lety +1

      I’m currently a paraprofessional and in school for my bachelors to become an elementary teacher. I’ve only had one teacher be snarky towards me. I was waiting for the copier. I was needing to make copies for the current teacher I am working with and this other teacher comes into the copier room and basically told me to move on somewhere else because she has teacher things to do. It really rubbed me the wrong way. I get that I’m not a teacher yet and just a para but I was in there with a purpose and she shouldn’t talk to anyone like that.

    • @amyhaynes6323
      @amyhaynes6323 Pƙed 2 lety

      @@funkolicious_gabby442 In North Carolina you do not need your bachelor's to sub. You see, the teacher I was subbing for she was only there for 2 months. She was having a lot of things go on mentally and physically (I do not blame her, life happens). When I stepped in they had already been through 7 subs and the teacher assistant was having to teach the class. She was having a hard time too. This class had a lot of behavioral issues. Fast forward to when I walked in, I had many things to accomplish with and being told by the principal it didn't matter if they were behind they needed to be on point with the other 2nd grade classes. I knew there was no way. So, I went to the principal and said, "There's no way they can start here without going back first."
      Yet, the other 2nd grade teachers were upset because they had to give me there lessons plans to go off of since I was not certified. I don't know if they were not making lesson plans and that put on more work for them, but they would only give me a few sentences . So, I would go home every weekend and make up the lesson plans fully while being a mother of 3 and taking a full load of college classes. I never complained. I knew then what I know now, I want to be a teacher.

    • @amyhaynes6323
      @amyhaynes6323 Pƙed 2 lety +1

      @@funkolicious_gabby442 Also, I went to the guidance counselor, resource teachers,.and the media teachers for help. I worked with them to set up "reading clubs" at lunch. Where the guidance counselor and her intern would pull groups each day of the week to go to the library to eat and do reading groups for more resources for the students. I worked with the other teachers to have them come to my class and show me how to set up centers, the curriculum, the standards, everything I needed to know. Plus, I went to the resource teacher to get just a little bit more help for the students that were struggling. Which took months with all the paperwork and having meeting with the parents to inform them of what I was seeing.
      I give it to teachers, they have a lot on their plate. But, don't treat others badly because we are only there to help. Subs in NC (at the time I was subbing) only make 60 dollars a day.

      @@amyhaynes6323 wow . I can’t believe of how little you were getting payed at the time. I think that is another problem why were are so short on subs no one wants to do it because it’s not worth the stress and how you are treated by other teachers . I feel as when I go work with other teachers for my field experience class they get very territorial as if I’m going to take their job. Which all I want is to learn how to be a great teacher.. I’m taking this field experience class and my teacher doesn’t even acknowledge me and forgets my name.. especially knowing I have been doing that class since the beginning of the semester .. they make me wipe the tables sweep and clean up.. I feel as if I’m their to clean up after everyone and it sucks. But you have to do these hours at a child development center for this class .

    As a parent, I want to say, “Thank you, thank you, thank you!” for keeping the reward only for the students who actually earned it. You are teaching them a valuable life lesson of equality, as in: everyone gets equal opportunity for success, but not everyone gets an equal result. Just like a race - all racers start at the same starting line, but how they finish is up to them. :)

    • @eqqies3196
      @eqqies3196 Pƙed 2 lety +4

      Hi Stephanie, just a reminder that all students DO NOT start at the same starting line, nor do they have equal opportunity for success. Socioeconomic status, race, disability etc all impact the opportunities that a student receives.

      @@eqqies3196 I was complimenting what she did in HER CLASSROOM. All her students did, in fact, have equal opportunity to earn the reward. Outside of her classroom, however, Americans have more opportunities for success than any other country in the world! So, you’re right: not everyone has the same starting line - Americans are automatically starting way ahead of everyone else! Rather than pushing a victim mentality, I’m teaching my children that they can be whatever they want to be
but they have to be willing to work hard for it.
