- Welcome to my first live chat. On Friday I published my video on how the ileostomy reversal process was for me, now you can ask me questions you have about it and how things are now in real-time. I'll also answer the best I can any colorectal cancer questions you have. I am not a doctor, just a patient, so my advice is from the perspective and knowledge only as someone that has been through a cancer diagnosis.

I believe you have about 5 ft of it. Congratulations on your recovery. FYI. I’m on the same boat with you, colorectal cancer survivor stage-3 and everything you explain is right on. I’m a 55 male. I’m at the point of recovery after the reversal. God bless us both and praying 🙏 for you and me. Eduardo.M.
that's good news, good news indeed
It really helps to hear from someone who has been through cancer treatment before and has come out OK Thank you.
Indiana. Thanks for all suggestions. I can relate with all you talk about. I don't want to have, to have, the bag again. Still learning.
Thank you for the information on surgeons, you are correct, surgery is their only concern. I will get a G.I. doctor.
This was a great live stream. Looking forward to the next one!! 😃
Thank you for joining! Looking forward to seeing you at the next one 😀
Jelena, you are possibly the most formidable fighter i ever saw, you are giving so many others the will to join the team and fight FIGHT as hard as possible,
Thank you so much 💙
Hey there! Thanks so much for these videos! I am due to have my reversal in two weeks after having a colorectal cancer removed a year ago (reversal held off due to chemo and then Covid delaying operations). I am so nervous about it, especially as the cancer was really low in the rectum. I have gotten used to "bag life" and one thing I love to do is go for three hour walks every second day/night - it has really helped me get through and get stronger after the previous surgery etc. I'm just so worried I won't be able to do this again due to bowel control. It was great to hear you were able to hike again! All of your info has been super helpful and I will be referring back to it all as I continue the journey! Stay healthy and thanks again from Australia! 🙂
I’m so happy to hear my videos have helped you out. I hope you have good results after your reversal. 🤞🏼 Those long walks sound nice, and like a great way to both stay in shape and help clear your mind. Thanks, I’m doing my best to stay healthy here in the States.
Well today I'm getting my Reversal Thank you again for your videos it's been a big help. God bless you 🙏 ❤️
I hope your surgery went well and that you’re recovering nicely 💙
@@SurvivorJelena day two surgery went well on a liquid diet now and I'm really gassy...
Solids will come soon…if it hasn’t already 💩
How are you doing now
Hi Jelena, So wonderful to see you doing LIVE CHAT. I had my first major surgery at the close of May 2021 for Subtotal Colectomy with End Ileostomy and now considering the J-Pouch route, followed by reversal. I hear alot of stories from patients telling about the terrible pain they endure post surgery and I must admit, I am absolutely petrified. I then thought about your brave journey and would love to have your views and advice on what I should do. I also unfortunately suffered a perforation during a routine flexisigmoidoscopy and it was clipped there and then. I don't want to have a stoma on my abdomen all my life and fancy a reversal, but just needed a positive and realistic advice that I should go ahead with the follow up surgery, as I have been told that there are many risks and it's more painful. Please could you kindly guide me in the right direction? Thanks very much.
Hi! I’m not a doctor and don’t know your full situation so I can’t tell you for sure what to do, but I would highly recommend finding someone that has a j-pouch that you can ask about how their post-surgery bathroom visits are. It’s such a tough decision, especially when you don’t know how YOUR body will handle the surgery/reversal and how your quality of life will be.
@@SurvivorJelena Thanks very much, Jelena. I really appreciate your advice and will take it on board. Fortunately, I am a member of Chron's-Colitis UK, so can follow up from there. Up to now, I'm mostly hearing about the pain-factor which makes me hesitate, but hopefully get a more fuller picture once I've looked around. Thanks again. Wish you continued good health and happiness.
Thank you very much, the surgery is coming next month for me. I m terrify. And I have to travel long distance to came back home.
Good luck 💙
Do you ever do enemas to get some relief from going to the bathroom so much? I’m 2 weeks post reversal surgery I’m going 12 times a day some days.
You will hopefully start seeing some improvements shortly. I never tried enemas, but I believe most doctors recommend waiting at least a year post-reversal before trying them as they’re seen as a last resort to help.
How do u stop using the bathroom so much I’ve been taking immdoium and Metamucil nothing seems to be helping and when does it start to get better I’m 6 months from my reversal surgery
It should have started to improve. Have you tried eating a low-residue diet?
Do u have a lot of problems with bathroom runs how long does it last
It still can happen and I’m 4 years out. Every few weeks after the surgery I made definite improvements, it just took time, which is frustrating when you’re going so much at the beginning.
U know. Possible parmanent colostomy / iliostomy reverse.
Maryland < 2years later lol >
Have you experienced cramping of like the colon rectal area? ?
In my case - yes .. had rectal resection due to endometriosis…. 8 months post surgery and still have mild pain In surgery area… especially when I sit for long… this is super annoying and I fear for my quality of life…
Hope this answer helps u a little .

Would you say life was easier with the illeostomy? I am afraid to have my colostomy reversed because I will still have uc
For my situation, I’m glad I had my ileostomy reversed even with the problems that I still have. Having UC in the mix makes it a much more difficult decision. If you’re happy with how things currently are and your health isn’t affected by having the colostomy, then maybe there isn’t a strong reason to reverse it?
Did you have a colonoscopy first? Or just a colonoscopy? I just had a positive Cologuard test ,so next is colonoscopy. But educated my self for the worst,I guess.
@@tncluster66 I only had a colonoscopy...I never did one of the take-home tests. I think since I was below the recommended age and they were thinking that I probably had some intestinal disorder like Crohn's or UC they wanted to actually be able to take biopsies of my intestinal wall. I hope the colonoscopy goes well and it isn't the worst, but it's always hard to keep your mind from going that direction. 🤞💙
@@tncluster66 yes I had a colonoscopy and other tests and some steroid treatments before my colostomy. I thought the steroids had fixed the problem but they won't keep you on them forever and then my bowel issues came back
Isn’t that temporary all the things you were explaining you have to go through do you eventually have normal bowel movements again?
They’re still not normal, but with medication they’re manageable most days.
Did you snorkel or dive in Belize ?
We did go snorkeling 🐠
Did your doctors advise you to do pelvic floor exercises to improve muscle strength in your rectum? I am waiting for my reversal of color rectal cancer and have been advised to so to help with any future incontinence after the reversal.
No, my doctors weren’t proactive like that. I wish they would have, that’s awesome yours are!
