Absolutely loved hearing Faouzia for the first time! The belting, the vocal control, the range, all of it -- brilliant. Whether edited or not, whether recorded live or not -- that's all irrelevant when talking about the talent of this singer. What else should I check out from her?!

I have been to a Faouzia concert in person, where even the microphone at one point stopped working and she sang acoustic, live, without any background music, and she sounds EXACTLY the same. Regardless of the video/vocal editing that is probably noticed on this video from you, I can attest to her vocal capability and sounds even better in person with even better vocal control. She is a work of art. For a more stripped down version of her voice, watch Tears of Gold Live in Concert at the Burton Cummings Theatre.

John Legend sang with HER. 😂
"Minefields" was basically finished when they asked Legend if he was interested. His track was recorded and added right before song release. This was also during Lockdown, so they didn't meet in person until shooting the video.
Faouzia has sung on tracks by David Guetta. Galantis, French rapper Ninho, Martin Solveig and on Kelly Clarkson's multilingual "I Dare You", and on the arabic only duet version.
Even after all this, and two EPs on Atlantic Records, she is still not very well known to audiences.

Hey Peter, here's for you Faouzia singing Tears Of Gold live (while casually playing a grand piano...) in Abu Dhabi three years ago. Just her and the piano, 100% live... She will blow your socks off... (I put a timestamp at the start of the song as this is from a stripped live set of totally 9 songs, 7 originals and 2 covers, sung with a guest pianist. Tears Of Gold was her fifth song in the set, so she's already warmed up, and after it would sing 4 more songs...) She's an incredible powerhouse with complete control and wonderful clarity and precision, topped with some very tasty arabic spices, new favorite of mine... another favorite of mine from that same set is No. 7 "How It All Works Out", her last original song in that set before she's covering "Desert Rose", partly sung in Arabic, and then a crazy version of "Crazy" as closer... The whole set is 30 minutes of vocal glamour from start to finish, you'd find a track list with timestamps in the comments... Would love to watch your reaction to the whole thing, but most of all "How It All Works Out", I love that song of hers...
    Peace and love from Bavaria!

Also the live performance video of her newest song "Fur Elise" is really incredible, and you as a guy with some bonds with classical music will definitely enjoy what she did with Beethoven's Bagatelle... amazing song, musically, lyrically, vocally. I use this as a warm up song all the time because it is crazy hard to sing! There are so many octave jumps and variations in register. The lowest note in the original is maybe one or two notes higher than the one in this version, but it’s still at the very bottom of my range as a soprano so this whole song is a vocal workout for me. Her control is actually insane.

Great vocal analysis and wonderful commentary Peter ! Faouzia is. Moroccan Canadian singer songwriter residing in Canada. She's an absolute dynamic and powerful singer. She can sing through all her registers seamlessly and display her amazing vocal agility throughout the entire song. As you will find, Faouzia writes most of her own music and is an extremely talented young singer-songwriter. Faouzia speaks three languages, plays three instruments and is currently finishing up her degree in engineering. This girl is the real deal. She is a true artist in the sense that her vocal artistry is as good as it gets and if you follow some of her music you will see how good she really is. Her live performances are so masterful and she does everything as well as she does in the studio. . Faouzia is not that well known in Canada yet unfortunately, but is slowly gaining global recognition as she starts to tour the world. She is just beginning her real journey into mainstream pop music . I think you'll enjoy many many videos to come. Her latest video." Fur Elise "is an absolute masterful performance on a Beethoven masterpiece.I encourage to react to the live version ( piano and cello) it's totally amazing ! I want to thank you for reacting to this wonderful artist and I hope you continue your journey with her. Sending much thanks and love from Canada đŸ‘đŸ‡šđŸ‡Šâ€ïž

Hi, Peter. This is my first time listening to this singer, and I love her voice. Thank you. But your commentary reminded me of something. I recently saw a vid where a very famous singer’s song video was played using a pitch evaluator. The perfection of pitch, and impossible constancy of that perfection displayed on the evaluator made it obvious that the performance had been pitch-tuned. I was quite disappointed. I don’t mind heavy production, but just like what makes us all perfectly imperfect, I want to know that I’m hearing a beautiful voice in all the imperfect perfection that is its soul, like Barbra Streisand at her strongest, or Judy Garland. I will never be able to listen to that artist again without wondering if I’m hearing her real voice or not. I can understand some tuning if they’re not feeling up to it at certain times, but not as a rule, and not when untuned, the difference is undetectable to the human ear. For me, singing voices communicate soul-to-soul. We already have enough fakery in the world.

Please react to her "You don't even know me- stripped", it really showcases so much of her lower end, agility and that edgy belt. Her vibrato is also incredibly fast if you notice, which has an effect on her agility. It's quite a middle-eastern and south asian thing to have really agile voices and throw in imperceptible riffs. I love her voice because usually when I hear agile voices, they're light and higher- placed but hers is darker and situated lower.

amazing vid! been a fan os faouzia for a couple of years now, so what actually baffled me as a video editor was trying to think of the logistics of this recording as a lip syncing, because damn, that must be a lot of takes and a lot of training and constance in the singer to be able to perform similarly enough every time cause damn
cant imagine the editing was any easier tho, especially for the close ups cause i imagine people with a better trained eye like singers would catch if the mouth and tongue positions were kinda weird

I appreciate technical expertise, but I think sometimes education can stand in the way as there are many years of Instagram posts that she has made on a cell phone that are pretty close to the same quality. I never comment on this stuff, but it got a little annoying. It might not be the most favorable thing to Western people to hear this but speaking Arabic requires so much of the vocal tract that is unused in European languages that it produces many other sounds that are relatively unknown to Western speakers. I am not personally Arab, but I have spent a lot of time in the culture as I married into the an arab family and quite familiar with the language. The fact that all her breath spikes and clicks in her voice and tongue sounds are projected so clearly through the microphone makes me think it's live with perhaps a tiny bit of post production.

For an example of a band using a Studio Track with Live Video (and they are very clear about this right in the video) The Warning with the song "Automatic Sun." There is also a bit of the live audio at the start where the singer is introducing the song to the crowd, the difference between the Live audio and the Studio Audio is like night and day. The editing on that video is fantastic the video and the audio match perfectly if they didn't have the intro audio and they didn't say "Studio Version" right on the video it would be hard to tell. As a side note there are fan cam videos of that same song and show with the authentic live audio (standard festival audio recorded on smartphone, so not great) and you can see the drones used to film the video flying over the crowd.

Hi Peter! This was such a great reaction. I would love to watch you react to more Faouzia content so I have a bunch of suggestions! If you want to hear this song live, check out the versions in "Live for Arab Heritage" or "Stripped Live". The former is my pick but the latter is great too - and you should definitely check out the encore performance of "Elon" after the credits of the "Stripped Live" concert. She has two other live concerts in high quality that I recommend (but don't include this song): "Live for Amazon Music" and "Live at Abu Dhabi". The Amazon one is my favorite of the four and is the most recent. She also has a new song called "Fur Elise" and there's a "Live" performance that's probably similar to this one from a production perspective. She has several of these "Stripped" videos that are great but have post-production for sure. Looking forward to more as this was just the tip of the iceberg and her talent is off the charts.

Thanks for this! Loved your speaking voice - it hints at your singing voice. Baritone/bass?
Anyway. I never comment; I always just lurk. I'm going to throw a few Faouzia suggestions out there that you may not get from other people. I'm not a solo artist; nor am I a professional singer, but I've been fortunate enough to sing in a semi-pro chamber choir for more than 20 years.
    My two suggestions are
    1. Don't tell me I'm pretty
    2. Ne me quitte pas
I love most of Faouzia's songs but some resonate stronger than others. My two suggestions aren't the top show pieces for her vocal abilities - I'm sure there'll be plenty of other suggestions for that and you've already shown you need no convincing. My two suggestions rather show a different side to Faouzia. I'll subscribe - and keep my fingers crossed to have you react to my suggestions but *also* to hear you sing!

This amazing girl is originally from Morocco, hence, the fast vibrato and the subtle middle eastern touch that you can feel in most of her stripped version songs.
And by the way I had the pleasure of listening to her live in Jeddah like 3 months ago. Her singing is immaculate! And every sound that came out of her mouth was out of this world ! Like..! Magic!
Try listening to her live performance of “desert rose” in Abhu Dabi in the emirates. That’ll be your proof 😅

Perhaps as a contrast check out the live version (czcams.com/video/rE4OGB1aOdA/video.html), always hard to say about live and post processing but for the vocalists I'm interested I feel its a subtlety rather than a reworking of their voice or ability. Cheers

The thing you must know about Fouzia is that she is a trained traditional Moroccan singer, so she incorporated a lot of Arabic middle eastern Moroccan-Berber vocal style in her singing. The voice flipping and melodic riff is something that goes natural in many North African traditional folk singers. Its sounded autotune, you can go listen to many Moroccan traditional folks singers who sing live like that, plenty of videos you can search. This is what i like about non western oriented new singer which came from a different ethnic background. Dont get me wrong i like western music , but western music and singing style is not the only style of music in the world. Most Music critics used western standard of classical western music to judged others singer that made their own music and mixed their own musical heritage and singing in their songs. Its like asking a Raag musician from India to judged a classical opera singer using raag singing technique...which is bonkers. For example a broken pitch or weird sounding vocalization and riff maybe weird from western classical music views and hard to listen too, but in other part of the world that is the sound that they love and want to hear from a singer. You get my jiff? I'm rambling now xD. Like have you ever hear Arabic classical violin music?...if you ask a classical western violinist they will say that all of those Arabs play off pitch and out of tune. But to Middle easterners it is very lovely to listen to.

Faouzia is a Moroccan-Canadian singer-songwriter and musician. Her music style is general pop. She immigrated to Canada with her parents at the age of one and grew up there. She's never received any singing training and is self-taught. As you know, it's a remarkable talent, ranging from Western music to Moroccan-Arabic music.

    • @secretsofragrance
      @secretsofragrance Pƙed 13 dny

Since “RIP love,” Faouzia has been actively incorporating some elements of Arabic music into her work. She is a Canadian pop artist looking to establish her style and identity through her Moroccan background. But just so you know, she grew up with Western classical piano and violin training, but never vocal training. However, she even won a Canadian singing competition when she was a teenager, and at age 16 or 17, she won the international songwriting competition with another songwriter that had 16,000 entrants. She worked her way up to mastering the Western belting and Arabic vocal techniques.
Arabic music may sound out of tune to ears accustomed to modern Western music. because Arabic music uses 3/4 tones. Also, Arabic music usually uses the Hejaz scale, whereas Western music, like Faouzia does, composes in octaves. Actually, (in theory) both Western and Arab Classical Music were based on the work of ancient Greek philosophers such as Pythagoras, therefore there are many similarities. In this sense they share the same "cultural" heritage. When you look at a lot of baroque music the technique, aesthetic, and even instrumentation are very close to the old Arabic chamber music style.

Is gratifying to hear you say that she has a strong head voice because there’s people on CZcams who consider themselves to be “vocal experts“ even though they’re not even voice coaches or even voice coaches, but they pretend they know about the voice. They say that she’s a great singer in every aspect, but her head voice cause it’s not as strong and full as the rest of her voice or whatever they’re saying. And that’s not true at all. She uses her head voice in different ways, sometimes then, sometimes very full and operatic like in “blue“, but it always has full cord closure like you say. It’s always bright, it always stands out.
