Milady is the most interesting character of the tale. She is so beautiful and smart that face against men in a world dominated from men and she wins. She fights and she is killed. But her charme remains in the mind of the reader more than D’Artagnan and others. She is comparable to the Cardinal like strength and presence.

Such a fantastic edit! Milady is a terrifying character, and I loved her arc in the show. The mixture of hate, love and regret between her and Athos in season one is so fun to watch
Having read the actual book- here's a shocking truth. Milady and the Cardinal- aren't the bad guys in the real book. Best I can tell, the real book is parodying noble society and ALL of the characters look childish and petty in the end. How is the countess any different in trying to assassinate D'artagnan for flirting with her (and in the book he didn't sleep with her) than D'artagnan squaring up to deul a man for laughing at his yellow horse? I wager DeWinter is Dumas finally tearing away the veil and showing royal society for what it really was- a bunch of murderous lunatics. Say it all you want "but she killed Constance!". Yes she did- under the employ and with a carblanche from the Cardinal- the same Cardinal that promoted D'artagnan just a few chapters later- he sure got over that quick.
