Actually, the Leprechaun films are a lot closer to the original myths of the fair folk than most people realize. The fair folk in the original legends were far from friendly. They actually looked upon humans the same way humans looked upon animals. Meaning if you're lucky, they might keep you as a pet rather than eating you or skinning you to make a fashionable outfit.

The same boy who plays the younger Pete on the old Nickolodean show, "Adventures of Pete and Pete" is one of the stars in the Leprechaun movie. Back in the day when that first was in theaters, a lot of people recognized the child actor, and in the film he has the line, "Fuck you, Lucky Charms!", and the whole theater was laughing so hard for the next five minutes no one could hear the dialog in the film!
