  • The river was near its crest. I was surprised to encounter what I'd say were strong Class II waves downstream from Krogh's Landing. Since they weren't marked on the map, I assume they occurred due to the heavy flow. These rapids were present between from about river mile 9 to river mile 4. The whitewater runs from about the 20-minute mark to around the 26-minute mark in this video. My canoe drank some water.

Great OC-1 action. You are a very experienced paddler on well known waters. It's always cool when you can finally run the section above where you usually paddle. I would rate that river at the stage it's at as a hogh 2 to low 3. I was also impressed with your gear. Looked like you were well prepared for your trip. Now the bad, you really need to work on your eddy turns. They were very sloppy. Really enjoyed the video.

Thanks, and I agree that my eddy turns need work. I took the 6-week Canoe U whitewater canoeing class with a friend in my tandem Penobscot in 2001. I bought my Northstar Phoenix solo boat in 2019 and love the way it handles. For starters, my Duffek stroke needs practice, and I think I should try to come in from the side a bit more. Any thoughts?
