I was so impressed by Collins in the show I watched last night! I've never cried during the I'll Cover You reprise before but he made me cry so much!

I saw it last night in Canberra. The girl who did the solo was amazing. This video doesn't do her justice.

Which night was this filmed? I think we had a different female ensemble member sing the solo the night we went? Curious if they might each get a go?
It may have also been the annoying group behind us having a full conversation or singing along (without knowing the words!) with zero theatre etiquette that lost me too 🤦🏻‍♀️🙈

Yeah we had the lady standing next to Maureen in this video do the solo. I don’t think the person doing the solo in this video was there at all (sun 25 Feb 1pm show)

This was filmed at a media call prior to opening night. It was not an actual performance.

Why is the white girl singing Joanne’s part? It would sound better soulful, weird choice but okay lol.

I went closing night. I had not seen a production of Rent since it first opened. Whilst this production is flawlessly performed, I could not but conclude that this musical has not dated well. When I first saw I didn't realise it was La Boheme updated with rock/pop, and there are just way to many sub-plots that you simply don't care as very few characters are fully developed. I suspect the initial success was due to it's depiction of marginalised community but the libretto is just flawed. It has not dated well at all.
