So very missed 😢. I was fortunate enough to have interviewed him once, and met with him several times over the course of his career. I even took a group of my piano students to hear him, and he was kind enough to spend time with us after his performance. Such a wonderful man and one of the greatest pianists of all time!

Was a child when I saw him live in 1963 with Leonard Bernstein conducting!
Very talented man: have followed his career all of these years.

Thanks for posting this video. After having my 1st formal piano lesson in 1999, I was very glad to have learned about Andre Watts around 2015'ish when I was looking for "black" concert pianists. He had a remarkable professional career. My sincere condolences to his family after his passing 6 days ago. He was a stellar performer, and a national treasure. I most certainly appreciate his contributions to American history and the global performing arts community.. He will surely be missed.

In a 1963 concert, Leonard Bernstein introduced the 17-year-old André Watts stating that his mother was Hungarian and his father was American. It's interesting that he considers himself Black and White rather than American with an American father and Hungarian mother He was born in Germany.
