A few of my favorite yarns are: Malabrigo Rios--a kettle dyed worsted weight; very nice for sweaters. Premier Yarns Anti-Pilling Acyrlic in DK and Worsted; excellent yarn for Afghans and throws. Lion Brand Heartland; worsted yarn that is wonderful to work with in great heathered colors. I've made sweaters, ponchos and Afghans with this yarn. On the luxury yarn side, I absolutely love all of the hand dyed yarns by Expression Fiber Arts. They are a bit pricy but they are absolutely wonderful working with them. I also like the Berroco yarns. Very good quality.

Bonnie, I appreciate this video because you're a designer and know. There's so many indy dyers and different fibers being used. I tend to gravitate to the natural fibers. It's funny that you like paintbox aran yarn so much. I bought it to make one of your blankets because it was the one you used, but I found it was pilling while I was still making it. I was quite disappointed with it, but it does come in a wide range of colours. 😊 I do love your designs though. I would never have thought of crochet cables if I hadn't found your videos.😁 I like Stylecraft DK which is similar to paintbox but seems to be more hard-wearing. I am not sure if you can buy it over there though. God bless.
I'm sorry to hear that that was your experience with Paintbox yarns Ruthie. I would definitely let them know about this. It could possibly been a bad batch of yarn. That can happen sometime. I have known yarn companies to replace and or refund for poor quality yarn.
@@BonnieBayCrochet It was during the pandemic lockdowns so it's probably too late now!😁 I did use it to make your lovely cable cardigan for my mum and it didn't pill so much then, so it could have been the batch. I have found a number of anti pill yarns do actually pill. I can't afford the pricier yarns so I just have to use what I can afford which is probably part of the problem. I love your designs though, thank you.😊
Thank you! I honestly don't think there is a yarn out there that never pills, especially if you use the item you make on a regular basis. Yes, that is another good yarn. There are so many out there! For my scarf (which is coming to my channel soon), is made using a fingering weight knobby yarn by “Made 4 U by Laura” on Etsy. Lovely yarn!
I recommend Drops Safran too. It is a long fibre Egyptian cotton that I use for garments. Despite it's low price it is good quality, which I think I can tell from its smoothness, lack of those tiny bumps that some cottons have, as well as its slight sheen despite not being mercerised. of Unmercerised cotton has a hint of fluffiness, which makes it warmer. Unfortunately, Safran only comes in sport weight, not fingering, but it works well for autumn and spring sweaters, etc. I wear cotton in winter too because I've got sensitive skin and a cotton cardigan is enough for me indoors. For warmer garments my favourite yarn is mulberry silk (the kind with a sheen, i.e. where the layer that protects the larvae has been removed). It's very expensive, though, so I don't buy it often. Oh, and for things like dishcloths I prefer linen (flax). Just like with cotton one needs to check if the manufacturer used quality long, smooth fibres, or simply the short left-over ones. I have the impression that companies sometimes try to sell us crafters yarn of low quality, trusting marketing to make us buy them without checking. We don't like that, do we...

Some of these yarns come in hanks and need to be wound. I use my Stanwood Large Ball winder and a yarn swift to wind these. I have links in the video description of my favorite.
