Solo Winter Overnighter | My first experience with snow

- After my thrilling first solo overnighter experience in Kyrgyzstan, I knew this couldn’t be a one-off. For 2024 I've set the goal to spend more time adventuring on my own and a lovely way of doing so, I thought, is a per-season bikepacking overnighter. I had never cycled in the snow before and I definitely felt a little anxious about the journey, but I prepared in the best way that I could and just went for it. In this video, I invite you along on my escape into the white forests of Teruel in Spain, where I also share with you my thoughts and realizations during this adventure.

You are amazing, your perspective is beautiful, you are inspiring, thank you from Turkey❤🇹🇷🇪🇸
Thank you so much!
Yes!! I love how after that beautiful first overnighter in Kyrgyzstan you’ve now taken on Spanish winter. And… I’m eagerly watching those composition details 😋
And Tristan, you should be proud of this lovely lady, all by herself on a cold winter night... 😁 looking forward for a short winter the Lord willing...
Take care..
Great immersive filming of your excellent adventure, bravo 👏😎🚴♂️
If this is not a beautiful film, I don’t know what is.
Praying all is well...
The winters in Europe can get pretty cold...
Stay warm, I'm waiting to see your next adventure...😊❤🚴♀️
Beautiful scenery and stunning filming! I had to watch it immediately again after first watch, really enjoyed every cut.
Beautifully captured and narrated! Can’t believe this winter landscape is in Spain.. You are such a brave lady for doing this solo winter overnighter. Keep the solo adventure videos coming!! 😍❤️
Right? Spain is not all beaches and sunshine! As soon as you go a bit inland, it can get VERY cold. This is a very mountainous country too as you’ve seen! Looking forward to exploring a bit more together! =)
What a beautiful winter and what a brave first attempt. Respect. Winter adventures require particularly careful preparation. And it is very unusual to see Spain in the snow, and not as a sunny resort. Thank you.
And it's nice to remember that somewhere there is beauty after a missile attack...
Totally! There’s a big misconception with Spain being all sun and beaches. As soon as you go slightly inland it gets really cold. Spain is a big country with a lot of mountains and diversity, so I’m glad to be able to share the less known side of my country. Thanks for your nice words. =)
👍👍Muy bonito.
También he disfrutado mucho de vuestro libro, BIKE LIFE en bici por el mundo, que acabo de leer.
Precioso!!!
Static shot👍
I absolutely loved this. It was probably one of the most beautifully filmed adventures I’ve watched. I put it on the big TV and put the phone down and just watched. Thank you for sharing, I’ve subscribed to keep up to date with your next trip. 😊
Hi Allen. I don't have a big screen but I can imagine it becomes WAY more immersive on one! Happy to read you enjoyed it so much. Let's see how the spring overnighter turns out. Thanks for staying around. =)
Thank you for sharing these gorgeous frames and moments with us...
Happy to read you enjoyed the video! =)
Muito bom ❤
Amazing video. Honestly the forest landscape felt like somewhere in northern sweden. Never could have guessed this is Spain. Also, climbing uphill in that snow seems crazy challenging.
Some people call it the Spanish Lapland. It's the coldest area in all of Spain (Teruel mountains). Would love to ride in Sweden one day!
Fantastic. It brought back some great memories from Montanasvacias last year. Beautiful part of the world.
Well done 👏
Beautifully simple story of joy and happiness.
Great video and exotic scenery for someone who comes from tropical Southeast Asia like myself. I hope you can do a video on the Camino del Cid or the La Conquista event.
So cool you know that route! We just came back from a new bikepacking route called Of Resilience and Hope which overlaps a bit with Camino del Cid. You can check out @tristanbogaard 's channel to see the video of that trip coming up soon!
With that dificult "first step" done, it all becomes easier, an adventure and great fun!
So true! I felt super anxious at home, waiting for it to snow, but once I was there... everything rolled just fine! Most fears are in our heads. =)
I really enjoy your overnight solo adventure videos. This was a good one! I just got me a gravel bike and hope to have my first bikepacking adventure soon, will likely be solo.
Thank you! I hope you enjoy the experience yourself. =)
Wow! This is so inspiring! I've been wanting to go wild camping on my own for ages now, but I'm really lacking the confidence. Love seeing you trying new things on your own despite the insecurities, maybe it's the kick up the butt I need 😅
I had exactly the same! Until one day I decided to take the step and just go out to try. Maybe start somewhere that makes you feel safe, even if you decide to set up camp at a campsite. Step by step! Both times I’ve chosen carefully the riding location and have prepared accordingly. ☺️
@@BelleToscan Thank you for the kind response! You're right, I just need to take the first step, even if it's staying at a quiet campsite. I think I'll try and go for it within the next couple of weeks! And I look forward to seeing your next adventures 😊
Beautiful area! Beautifully filmed and wonderfully told! I really enjoyed that!
This is next level ❤
That was quite the challenge. I don't think I could do that, and I'm from 🇨🇦. Good going there Belle, and I look forward to seeing more from you this year.
This was awesome!! 😁✌️
It was so tough and good of you to make this solo snow trip! I know it is much easier to just stay indoor and wait for a good weather. I very much love the way you tell your stories, so gentle and peaceful. Hope you keep solo cycling and creating your beautiful videos -very inspiring. Looking forward for them!
Thanks a lot for the support! I like making these videos when I feel there is a story to share outside of ‘just riding’. Couldn’t imagine myself cycling in the Canadian winter either!
For 2024 I set a new goal: more videos for the saturated market of increasingly self-indulgent video ads or sponsor requirements masquerading as genuine content.
Excellent video, love your vids young lady
Thanks a lot! I'm getting more confident with the filming so I hope to share more of these this year. =)
Зимою звичайно гарно теж люблю проїхатись по снігу. але літо краще.
YOU DID IT! Congratulations Belén! You did it! What a wonderful solo adventure! Love the shelter! I wish we had those here in Ontario Canada! I would do a winter sleepover for sure! You skill set is expanding because of your conscious effort to push yourself out of your comfort zone. Now you know that you can solo bike/overnight in snow. For sure, spring will be a breeze! Thanks for the continued inspiration! I have bookmarked this video for encouraging my riding friends (especially the women)! Lovely camera work and such beautiful surroundings! Thank you for taking us along!
Thanks a lot for your support and kind words! I can imagine that a winter overnighter in Ontario is another level of winter experience. I hope your friends feel encouraged by my experiences. Nothing like starting small, close to home and with good weather. =)
I have just found your channels and this is the first film I have watched if yours. its just beautifully 😍 filmed with warm and honest narration 🤩 thank you for making this film and giving me motivation
Thanks a lot, and welcome!
Beautiful piece of art!! We loved it!! It captures perfectly the spirit of that place. La Portera is one of my favourite shelters around here ...
Hugs from Teruel!!
Thanks for putting this place on the map for so many people!
Great Content and storytelling , love from India😊
Well done! I can tell there’s a lot of work filming and editing, beautiful shots and story telling! Congratulations on the winter overnighter and an outstanding video! I’m familiar with snow riding and camping in freezing temperatures, it’s not that bad you just need to stay warm. Cheers from Norway 🇳🇴
Thank you! Filming is definitely a lot of work but I really enjoy the process. I cannot film (and wouldn't) every trip we do but it's nice to do so in the ones where I have something of value to share. Enjoy the Norwegian winter! Must be beautiful up there. =)
Yes, you did it...
Maybe the next time you need to cook and eat something hot at night for the calories before bed, and a cup of tea or cocoa...
It's great seeing your videos...the snow was 😍 🤩 👌
Totally! A warm meal is always ideal but I really really didn't feel like doing so. I'm badly used to Tristan cooking for me every evening but... I'll definitely give it a go on the next one!
...que frío Belén 😮
¡Pues al final pasé mucho menos frío del que me esperaba! Siempre que te muevas, no pasa nada. =)
Hi I bumped into policeman Toni in the village today and he showed me your video. Looks great you put a lot of effort into it. I am staying in the refugio near the village a bit lower than portera. I took ride pinion and was wondering what make your bike is. Just love pinion and Spain Brian
Oh nice! So cool that a local showed you the video! Is it still snowy up there? I used the Tout Terrain Outback. Love love love the Pinion gearbox. Enjoy riding in Teruel! =)
I guess i never thought of Spain getting snow 😅
Great story once again! I guess this trip was more of that type 2 fun for you, where you end up reminiscing it fondly as the time passes on. 😄
As a finn, it is interesting to learn how much the colder winter climate does need adjusting, if you're not familiar with it already.
But hey, maybe there's more winter adventures in store for you, now that you got the first taste of it. 😉
I'd say this time it was closer to type 1 fun case I was quite prepared. Only really stressed about time pressure cause I was a bit ambitious with the distance (and path quality) to cover before reaching the refugio.
It used to snow MUCH more in this area of Spain 50 years ago and nowadays, it's barely a few days or weeks a year. What makes me more alarmed is the serious droughts we are facing in Spain. Thanks for sharing your thoughts! Hope you are enjoying a proper white winter up there!
@@BelleToscan oh yeah, the changes of winters, and climate over all, have been really alarming. Even this winter feels quite worrisome as the amount of snow has been so much. Because it means that there have been so much evaporated water in the air.
I find hitting the inhaler just before peddling in the cold helps to keep the asthma to a minimum . Keep the rescue inhaler close to your side at night while sleeping in the cold regardless of how warm your body is , it's the cold air that will cause the bronchial spasms ... great video and very informative thanks
czcams.com/video/136jl2ZKhNs/video.htmlfeature=shared
Thanks got the tip! For the past couple years I’ve been super well balanced and have barely had to use an inhaler at all! Didn’t do either in this trip but I did notice the cold air triggering it slightly. I shouldn’t be so confident next time! Pacing myself helped a lot. =)
Wich bike and model? Thx 😊
I've been using the Tout Terrain Outback Xplore with a Pinion gearbox for the past 2-3 years now! Love it, and won't change. =)
Si no te hubiese escuchado hablar en español, hubiese seguido pensando que eras de algún país del norte.
Gracias por el cumplido!
Do you feel lonely when you do this?
Not at all! The good moments I sometimes miss sharing with someone but instead, its an exercise to learn how to also enjoy things on your own. =)
@@BelleToscan I do everything on my own
I heard Spain has wild boars?
There are, yes. But have never seen one in all our years riding there! Wild animals in Spain are generally scared of humans and hide when they see us.
@@BelleToscan oh good 👍
