Art and art critics need each other. I always say this and I love Joe's take here, which was also Cole's take in that interview w Yachty. Without art, there's nothing to critique. Without critics, art doesn't evolve. And artists are NOT their art - Once the art is finished and given to the audience, anything said about it is not automatically something said about the artist
I’ve never met a single artist who cared about “critics”. Every artist I know is inspired by other artists and their actual fans. Never in the history of art have artists ever liked or respected critics. Great art inspires great art, not hearing someone else’s opinion about it.
no matter what you label them, anyone with an opinion becomes a critic. Regardless of whether an artist chooses to only focus on the other artists or the fans, just because they happen to like the art doesn't make them not a critic. You don't have to be a career critic to be a critic, its a floating term.
