- This song is an absolute MASTERPIECE! Join me as we go bar-by-bar through the fingerpicking for each section, then play each section through at a reduced tempo. Standard alternating bass fingerpicking all the way through - a MUST for any guitar player.

I stopped the tape 20 seconds in to comment.... because I had just found one of my favorite tunes being taught by one of my favorite teachers. I was thrilled to say the least. I have yet to find a song you couldn't teach this very old beginner....now playing a wonderful new Furch 12 fret. I hope I don't prove myself wrong with this tutorial. Thanks Shane.
That’s SO great Bill - thank you! Just take it slow and sure and you’ll nail it. I appreciate your encouragement - my best to you! Shane
Thanks for that Shane! One of my favourite songs. most of Mark Knopfler’s stuff is great. I just love Telegraph Road and the simple but effective Hill Farmer’s Blues.
Regards
Ray
Thank you Ray - I'm a huge fan of Knopfler's for sure. I hope you have fun with this one. Best to you! Shane
Knopfler is one of the best guitarist of all time, thanks for the lesson Shane 👍
He sure is - thanks for that. Cheers, Shane
Great. Thanks for all your hard work.
Great song Shane, tune and lyrics - have loved this since Knopfler released it. I bought a Beat Buddy after viewing one of your tutorials a couple of years ago - so glad you have an affiliation now as without your influence I wouldn't have come across it. It is a real help and I've become a Patreon of yours in recognition of all the fine support you give to me and other folks - including the kit suggestions. Thanks again from Birmingham UK.
Thank you Giles - that's really super and I appreciate you sharing that. I hope it helps and nudges others towards grabbing a Beatbuddy. To me, it's an essential practice tool. My best to you in Birmingham....from Canada's capital. Cheers, Shane
I'm glad to hear you got a sponsorship with BB Shane. I've been using one for a couple of years now and it's so much more beneficial and fun than a metronome and the beat choices are incredible. Great tutorial as always Shane.
I fully agree Kevin and thank you for that. Such a great device - tons of fun and very easy to use. I always appreciate your input. Cheers,
Shane
Amazing. My favourite tune. You’ve absolutely smashed it, wonderful. This was my first finger picking tune which I started learning in lockdown. My poor wife had to endure hours and hours of it. Still haven’t cracked Solsbury Hill yet.
That's so great Steve - thank you. It is an amazing song that's for sure Glad to have you here and hope you nail Solsbury Hill! Shane
Don't think I even know this song, and glad you have selected a finger picking tune. Thanks.
I'm sure you'll love it Nicky - it's Amazing! The lyrics are incredible and the guitar playing is top notch. Mark Knopfler is superb. Best to you! Shane
Excellent...last year I persisted with the thumb over and ended up with nearly a year of agony with wrist!...so watch it...need to be careful.
Great job as always. did not know this song. Great finger picking
Thanks Bud - always appreciate your encouragement. Less people know this song than I'd imagined. It's gorgeous for sure. Best to you and stay warm. Cheers, Shane
