First time I heard this song I was sitting in drug rehab for the third time hating everybody and everything wanting to just leave jam and needle in my arm and die. Now life had gotten pretty bad and it was my own fault and being a father of five daughters you know when you get to the point where you want to die things definitely aren't looking up you know what I mean? Well we had this group session with therapy whatever you want to call it two days a week for an hour each time it was called music therapy. And I hated it. People would pick songs that meant something to them in recovering it was usually incredibly depressing shit that made me just want to eat a bullet. Or overdose. But then this song came on it wasn't this version it was the gondola sessions version and I was half-heartedly listening to it not really caring and then run around the 4 minute and 43 second Mark when he said the words today is a good day for my ego to die and he said it the second time.. I don't know what happened but I heard that loud and clear and I cracked right there. Drop my head to the table burst into tears in front of like 45 other men. Yeah I don't do that shit ever. But I did then and I didn't care. And that was the moment my life turned around. I got out of rehab got my phone back and immediately went on to CZcams to just see what else this phenomenal man had produced. And then I learned about what kind of a life he had. He was raised by white people in a very very like flaky white neighborhood but I guess his adoptive parents kind of allowed him or persuaded him or somehow he got to start learning about his heritage because he's a mix of three different background he's Hawaiian Puerto Rican and native american. And apparently he dove into his native American Roots big time and he took his life story and he's put it into music. One of those songs though speaks of him being a product of rape. Yeah.. it's an uplifting song it's a happy song he makes it a happy song.. but he clearly says he's the product of rape and sexual abuse it's fucking horrific but the way that he says it like he's accepted it it's who he is and he wouldn't have the breath of life if it didn't happen it's just it's amazing. I forgot the name of it at the top of my head. so thankful.. it's called so thankful check it out if you've never heard it. Anyway sorry about the ADHD rant. Stay safe and God bless 🙏
