The Choctaw Nation being a kind and generous nation gave a broken down and beaten country hope that we could survive a terrible genocide, and the fact that even though they were still probably struggling themselves shows that kindness can lead to a generation of compassion

It wasn't "a series of crop failures". It was a blight that killed the potato crop, upon which the impoverished Irish peasantry relied for their sustenance. All kinds of other foodstuffs were produced and exported to Britain under armed guard during this so-called 'famine', while entire Irish families driven from their cottages for nonpayment of rent starved to death beside the road.
    British imperialism at its finest.

Both hurt and ruined by the same humans that invaded our land.
I donated only €70 because that is all I could spare duing the donation period but one day I would genuinely love to visit the home (the were forced to have by Europeans) and enjoy their company and beautiful tobacco. I always say, native Americans have the BEST tobacco in the world.

The Choctaw leaders have been guests at the Famine walk in Westport, Co. Mayo, on a number of occasions since 1990. The event commemorates the walk that the starving local people took to persuade the local British administration to allow food aid (not that there was much success to be had there).

The Gulf South in the US has deep Choctaw, Basque, and Irish ancestry. If you put one of each in the sun for a few days, it gets really hard to tell the difference, which is not surprising since these groups have much more in common with each other than they do with Europeans in general. One of the Choctaw symbols happens to be the Basque Lauburu (another is from the Satsuma Domain, but that's another story altogether).

Well clearly the Irish in Ireland, whom the Choctaw were assisting, were not involved in these atrocities. Also, Sheridan was an American, born and bred. His parents were Irish, but he himself was not. And Conor left Ireland at the age of 12. Most importantly, however, it was in no sense Ireland or the Irish in any collective sense that waged war on the Indians. Although, both Conor and Sheridan may have had some personal connection to Ireland, all of the atrocities you refer to were the acts of the United States Union Army - which is the only real way to look at it.

Very generous of the Indians to help the Irish who were involved in stealing their land and then settling on their stolen land.
Many Irish form part of this story - and not always in positive ways. Patrick Edward Connor from Co Kerry, a Union general during the civil war, played a central role in the assault on the Native American community. He masterminded the infamous Bear River Massacre of 1863, when hundreds of Shoshone villagers were killed in retaliation for a series of raids by the tribe.
General Philip Sheridan, whose parents had emigrated to the US from Co Cavan, led attacks against the Cheyenne, Kiowa and Comanche tribes across the Great Plains. He is widely credited with coining the phrase: "The only good Indians I ever saw were dead,

The Indigenous Irish people are the people the Choctaw Native people helped. Ireland never colonized any country ever. But they were colonized many times over. Irish people were pushed on coffin ships, sold into indentureship by the harsh conditions of the colonizers to the new world where they worked themselves to death to feed themselves.

My thoughts, either make the role meaningful or merge Taoiseach and President into one role. Let the Attorney General protect the Constitution as he/she has the competency to do so. We don't need a "royal" waste of money sitting up in the park doing nothing.

@paddy brady Who made you the authority on who should be called an Irishman? I say that your racism and general ignorance precludes you from being a true Irishman. I long for the old days when the only platform you people had was yelling from a street corner while selling pencils from a cup.
