Glad I was finally able to finish this. Sometimes I just could not focus and I don't think it's the fault of the actors since they played their parts well. Maybe if there was a little more romance and a bit of humour thrown in I would have been more invested in this drama. Even at the end they cut the scene where there could have been a kiss between the leads😑

It’s tiresome to see how casually they use violence against women in these dramas.
Especially the rape as the start of the relationship BS! WTF?! He was literally pretending to hide from the bad guys and then raped her for real while she cried and he held her down. And then later we are supposed to want her to be with him?!

@DVJK0914 Him not to rape her. If he was uglier and she was beat up but he took responsibility, would that excuse it? Let me find out these casual rapes scenes are effectively teaching people that as long as you "take responsibility and apologize" it's fine.
Not a bad period drama. FL stayed a strong character the entire way through and worked her situation to benefit her, she demanded to be seen as an equal to ML too. ML isn't bad, he is a stereotypical ice-cold military man who apparently spread rumors of himself being sick and disfigured but when confronted with FL as his bride immediately accepted her. I do wish there was a more romance or intimacy shown, we get shown a one-night stand situation at the beginning and one scene of them cuddling but that's really it. ML isn't horrible towards FL, he seems to care for her and keeps trying to lean on her some for support.
Of course FL comes from a bad family, her mom is dead/dad is with a mistress/half-sister is jealous and plus ML has a cousin(?) who wants to be with him so keeps going after FL and the cousin also managed to turn ML's grandma against FL for most of the drama -- so the expected level of toxic behavior among the families.
She isn't ML 's cousin but is his sister in law. The reason she antagonize the FL isn't because she likes ML but because she wants to be the matriarch of the Lin family by pushing out the FL and killing the grandma
Bullshit, male lead break into the female room to hide from those who were after him but took as an excuse to threaten and rape the female lead and the said he will take responsibility for her like he did nothing wrong.
Second I find beyond sad that so many people find this romantic and finding men like the male lead to be a good person when he isn't.

This is actually an intelligent and well constructed storyline. Sadly the production is too low-budget to do it proper justice. Acting wise this won’t win any prizes either. Other than that it's worth the watch if you like stories of this Republican era and don't mind that this doesn’t have much romance.
SYNOPSIS - SPOILER ALERT!!!
This is set in the Republican era. On board a cruise ship, FL is on her way back after 3 years to take care of her grandmother and avenge her mother’s death. One night she encounters a drugged man and spends the night with him. The next morning, she sees a role of film, and a note saying he will find her later on and to safeguard the role of film.
When she enters her home, she finds out that her grandmother's supposed illness was used to lure her back in order for her to marry a disfigured man on behalf of her sister. So she is tied up and forced to enter the house of that man (ML) against her will and in the name of her sister. When they finally meet in the bridal room, he realizes that she was the one he spent the night with on the ship. Not accepting a divorce despite her “fake” identity, he promises her not to touch her until she gets accustomed to him and her new life. And so their married life begins.
But entering this mansion with its own set of rules and vicious residents, proves challenging. And soon she is also entangled with ML as he investigates illegal arms dealings and spies in his area. FL’s courage and unique set of skills actually comes quite in handy as they unravel the secrets and expose the villains together.
Well, this has a happy ending.

I never understood how these drama women, who are rich and have countless clothes, can pack all their stuff in one or two suitcases within seconds.
But when we see them packing, they just throw 2/4 items in a suitcase and are done!
It would takes me at least an hour per suitcase!

For some reason this period (1920s-1948 ) appears to be more difficult to reproduce than the historical period dramas. The guys look alright, as do some of thr women, but they just don't mive right. The grace thry get perfectly for thr Tang Dynasty falls flat when its the 20c.

However Provoke (2023) by Tencent Video and Maid’s Revenge by Youku even though they’re also mini series were very good.
Fall in Love (2021) a normal length one is the best so far with great chemistry and storyline as well as humour.
@@slian123 I've seen the first two and they are pretty good. I haven't seen Fall in Love since it's 36 episodes and full length. I haven't got the "stamina" for those - at least for the time being 😁

I actually like this period drama. I was concerned the FL would remain pitiful but was surprised. Romance is limited, the grandmother needed a few slaps for using that whip and to get some sense about the shadiness of the second daughter-in-law. The second daughter-in-law needed some punches and then kicked out of the house. Watch but be mindful about what I said concerning the grandmother and second daughter-in-law.
