one of the most succint set of lyrics ever written - not a single word wasted. Country poetry.

My dad would constantly sing the chorus to this song when I was a kid. I hadn’t listened to it in years when I decided to revisit it. As an adult, I finally understood the lyrics. What an amazing piece of song writing. Tom Jones’ version is my favorite.

There is no doubt that this is one of the most iconic country songs of all time. Pure gold, and to be recorded 700 times makes it super colossal. Thanks Curly Putnam.

A favorite song of mine in 1982 when stationed overseas in Furth West Germany working for the Army.. A bar across from the base had this song in the jukebox. Many young soldiers missed their friends and family.

When I was 14, almost 30 years ago, our English teacher brought this song up and we discussed the lyrics in class. In Denmark.

I love this song. When I was around three or four I wouldn't go to bed until my aunt would sing this song to me.

🤗Really? When was that? How lovely. Today people don't care much about those things and the music😕 don't talk about the nasty music of today's.

I still remember the day when after hearing this song for decades, it hit me what it was really about. A guy waking from a dream right before his execution. Devastating ending. Too country my ass.

I had the same experience. I always thought it was a happy song, I guess I never really listened to the lyrics. We used to sing it as "it's good to smoke the green green grass of home"

I he's something or read something. And out of the blue I come up with a poem. I want to put these poems to music too.

  • @lancasterritzyescargotdine2602

If "Green Green Grass of Home" (1965) isn't in the top 500 most powerfully influential songs ever written, someone has made a huge research mistake.
This song pioneered the evolution of pop music that feels sorry for criminals. "Green Green Grass..." was followed by two Johnny Cash albums, recorded at Folsom and San Quentin prisons, and later by Tony Orlando's "Tie A Yellow Ribbon Round the Ole Oak Tree", another cry-for-the-criminal recording that spiraled the genre into and beyond the 1970s. The trend became so consuming, criminal courts today are flabby soft when sentencing violent offenders.
A distinct correlation between them is difficult to deny.
Where death and LWOP were once so common they rarely drew media attention, those violent offenses today are treated with far softer penalties, which raises the time-worn question, does art imitate life, or does life imitate art?

Esta gran canción, merece que se replantee el guión de la película inspiradora y no se ejecute a ese ser que sólo añora a su vieja casa y a su familia y amigos, talves ya inexistentes.

It's hard to understand. Very soft, nice melody. I have already sang it in the style of Tom Jhones,
But I also like to try in the style of Elvis Priestly. I sing from ear. But I can immitate well!! I would like to meet somebody that are aficionados. I sing in Spanish and English and sometimes in Italian and French, vg
Rossygnol, Luis Mariano Che chelida mannina, Opera, Laboen. Pavaroti . Sinatra.,Dean Martin, you name it!,

Esta gran canción, la cual se afirma tiene la mejor métrica musical de todas las que se han grabado, también tiene en sí, una profunda tristeza que le llega a uno, al fondo del sentimiento y le saca las lágrimas.
