Easily the greatest performance I have ever heard, on record or in the concert hall. It truly captures the mystery and medody which are so uniquely Sibelius, and the tempi are just right (unlike many other performances). Well done! And great recording and video editing too.

A superb recording and video of this orchestra in total synchrony with the conductor and the music of Sibelius. Thank you for posting on CZcams.

I love the serene look on the concertmaster’s face at 43:04 - he knows they nailed it. Pride!

My appreciation of woodwinds has grown tremendously listening to Sibelius's symphonies. They can be haunted, evocative and playful. I love this symphony and this is an excellent performance from a small community in Norway. Remarkable the investment made in European communities to bring this gorgeous music to the public.

Impressive performance and even more impressive finale, among the finest I've listened to thus far for this masterpiece by Sibelius (and I have listened to my fair share, since first discovering this piece in late 2011). The joy and passion which the players put into the music is clearly evident in both visual and musical terms. Hopefully this great orchestra will get a wider following with time!

Seems like since the days of the outstanding Ms. Frøydis Ree Wekre - first chair of the horn section in Oslo Philharmonic - who set the stage for many ladies to follow in her footsteps, such as today's Inger Besserudhagen in the same Oslo Phil. And so is the case here with the impressive first and third French horn lady players. Isn't it just amazing!? The French horn is probably one of the most difficult instruments to play in the orchestra, and in Norway, the ladies are just leading the way forward! Kudos!!!

And yes, Frøydis was my teacher. ;)

@@hildelundegarby2715 - Wow! I envy you - having such an amazing teacher. Reading your note actually sent me immediately to watch again Ms. Wekre's interview dating back to 2013 with Sarah Willis in the horn hangout. This 50-minute session was time well spent - recallng "buzzing at the bus stop" and whistleing like birds, and her fine sense of humor. It takes sometimes a lifetime to realize what someone has been missing, and for me at more than 70-years old, who played clarinet during my youth years, I am more confident then ever that in my next life I will learn playing the horn... am so addicted!!!

Sibbie attracts more than his fair share of such individuals (IMO). If I don't like something, be it musical item or composer, I just don't go there, or move on... nothing to see here. I can't remember giving a thumbs down to anything on CZcams. No desire to wound.

@@noriemeha I was JOKING. Who cares if people click the thumbs down or up button really. And, yes, there is *no point* in being unkind. It simply amuses me that folks can get upset over even the most sublime of offering on CZcams, including this which was simply an outstanding performance.

I listened to a lot of chords but I don't know where the melody starts. When I hear Beethoven I can even whistle the music but this one doesn't.
