ATTENTION VIEWERS: As other comments pointed out, this footage is not set with the shutter speed correctly, so little to no motion blur is present. It is basicaly like regular gopro footage with shades, that is why the hypersmooth still works pretty decently. I recommend to people looking for ND filter demos to look for another video, and take this one as just how it looks with just the shades of a filter.
I think all this is doing is boosting the ISO to it's maximum, making it more grainy. Really good video apart from this though, easy mistake!
Exactly the review I was looking for! Thanks so much for sharing đđŒđđŒđđŒ
Looks incredible đ€©đ
Nice one man đ Got Polar Pro NDs for my drone ,they are awesome.
NDs let you get the light down for the correct exposure.
Footage looks awesome man ,will get some when I get go pro for Xmas !
They make for some great cinematic footage! Thatâs sick man! Hope you enjoy them!
Your motion comparison at the end did show some motion blur difference between each filter but I must say I did not notice that much when I watched and paused for myself.
Did you fix your shutter speed each time to 1/60 or use auto shutter?
great video, honestly like your natural presentation without all the fake hyper-excitement other YTers often have.
Great footage đ
Hello Bro
First you have wonderful bike,
I have a question for you
What is the great settings with sunny day with a pollar lens?
Can you sent me your opinion?
Giannis
This was solid!
Thank you đđ€
Awesome Riding and great informative video.
Thank you so much! đđ€
Nice video! I would just like to point out that your video on youtube is 60fps while your GoPro footage is 30fps. Ofcourse you can regenerate those missing frames with video editing software but then again, it won't be proper 30 fps. Just trying to help :) GL making more video's
aye bro you ridin sister elsie?
Nice vid. Thanks.
My course my guy! Glad I could help.
is there any filter that doesnt do much of the sunflares? It's anoying.. I have the same problem...any solution?
good vid from a mtb perspective, and awesome trail in Socal. Take away for me is... not really a great improvement. One thing that would be helpful though for more in depth review is sharing your gopro settings, and try different settings. Such as, flat color, auto, etc. did you end up using a manual shutter speed of 1/60th?
Thanks! All my GoPro settings are what come out of the box. Everything set to auto except the bit rate quality is set to high. I talk a lot about my settings in other videos that I have.
@@chrisbucci yeah i noticed you didn't use manual shutter speed settings..
@@chrisbucci There's not much of a point in using nd filters if you have an auto shutter speed. This doesn't really create motion blur if the gopro will shoot at a high shutter speed. It was noticeable that there wasn't that much motion blur and also that you didn't change the shutter settings from a videographers perspective. ND filters will not automatically create motion blur, you need to change the shutter speed as well to achieve the affect.
really great video, thankyou for the info, could you do a video on the full gopro settings on these clips in the video the quality is great thanks
Glad you enjoyed it my man. I did actually do an entire video about my GoPro settings.
@@chrisbucci Iâll check it out now
@@chrisbucci canât find the settings video.

Thanks for the video. Did you lock the ISO? Because if you did not, then all the camera will do is increase the ISO to keep the shutter speed up. Thats why hypersmooth seems to work decently on your camera even with an ND32 (and you seem to have less than the expected motion blur with an ND32)
Interesting. No I didnât lock the iso. I could try experimenting with that in the future tho. I did notice it worked pretty good with mine. Once I got in low light areas though it wasnât doing too good.
@@chrisbucci Ah then in that case the ND filter was not used correctly. Everytime you used the filters, all the camera did was raise the ISO successively to keep the shutter speed fast (and the hypersmooth working properly). Motion blur only comes from slow shutter speeds and that will inevitably wreck the hypersmooth and make your mountain bike videos nearly unusable. You can try it and see for yourself. Set shutter to 1/60 (180 degree shutter rule for optimal cinematic motion blur) then set max ISO to 200 (on a bright day you will need the ND32). Run the trail again and you will see the intended motion blur but the footage will not be very usable due to camera shake
You know what. Iâll double check and see if I actually had the iso locked. Donât think I did, but I will double check!
@@chrisbucci sure thing. But just eyeballing your footage am pretty sure you either didnt lock the ISO or the max ISO is set very high (say 1600ISO or greater) which nullifies the ND filter's effect, you can tell because the motion blur/exposure is nearly identical when you use the ND8/ND16/ND32. There should be a huge difference between them if your ISO was locked
@@RideTheTrack I've noticed that he isn't using manual shutter and 180 degree rule too. It is visible, little to no motion blur, auto exposure... This is indeed no good video to show ND filter usage.
Love mine
Thanks for the vid but you are missing shutter speed settings in order to test this properly!
That trails dope! Are you going by the 180 rule for your shutter speed? When ever I set my shutter speed twice the frame rate it is usually dark and no need for the filters. Everyone else seems to have things be too bright by that rule. đ€ Starting to wonder if somethings up with my cam or if Im missing something there. Sick vid tho!
Do you film 24 fps with shutter speed 48 ?
@@stephanelarocque77 yes, shutter speed always double the frame rate.
@@WRECKERMANDAN Yes! I don't have that gopro yet but with my Gh5 the image become too bright with that shutterspeed without nd filter on a sunny day as well.
@@stephanelarocque77 Ok, maybe Ive just been in too dimly lit situations so far. I havnt messed with it enough I guess. Thanks so much for the insight and confirmation. đ€
how u decide to shot after those test ? i will stick to raw wothout filter

Being the GoPro has a 4 year old processor and stabilizing real-time, I would think doing superview, no stabilization and doing stabilization in post would be best, however more work....
Yo bro good job đ„ I want to ask you what hubs do you have on the wheels? Sounds awesome
Thank you my man!! I đđ€ They are ethirteen hubs!
@@chrisbucci Lg1?
@@PersidisK yessir!
@@chrisbucci great respect soldier hahaha cheers mate đ€đ€
Unfortunately on the Gopro Hero10 the use of viewing/adjusting EV (exposure value) during the use of Protunes manual settings is impossible due to being greyed out. EV is extremely important in choosing those ND's as close as can be to EV 0.0. EV is only available when using Auto therefore, it all a guessing game from shot to shot viewing your screen for proper exposure.
have you redone this with a fixed shutter speed?
Thanks
Thank you for the video! YT = đȘđ
Would you most likely use these lenses or the Max lense Mod or the original GoPro lense? And could you test which of these lenses would work best at night .
Depends what type of footage youâre trying to get. These add motion blur to the video for more cinematic footage. The max lens actually changes the FOV of the video. Both have their place and do different things! ND 8 would work best at night because it has the least motion blur. I wouldnât use them at night though. It would mess with the stabilization too much.
@@chrisbucci thanks!
So no correct shutter speed was used (everything automatic?) but still some motion blur, interesting.
what would be the best filter for mixed riding, in and out of forest coverage?
I would say the 8! I had a recent trip to Washington with that exact terrain. The 8 was perfect!
@@chrisbucci ok great thanks, I'll look into this stuff...
what is your gopro setting with nd filter?
Risking sounding stupid, I can only say I didnât see much difference. I looked for the blur but didnât see any. I like the perspective from the chin mount though. Ah! I saw the obvious difference in the still shots at the end though.
Iâm not sure if theyâre worth me spending ÂŁ70 plus on them. Thanks for the vid.
Nise conten my fren
If the trade off for using an ND filter is an impact on image stabilization, then all I can say is...WHY BOTHER?!! And I also hafta ask, do you think that orange flare bubble that seemed to be present in all three ND examples caused by the filters? Maybe GoPro should come out with a lens hood next.....đ€
Stabilization is only really noticeably effected in low light scenarios. With a little practice on when and how to use them, they can be a great tool!
You know whatâs funny is that I didnât even notice that bubble until a friend pointed it out! Thatâs interesting that happens. A mini lens good would be kinda funny to see. đ§
@@chrisbucci The main thing I really donât understand is WHY a anyone would want motion blur in an MTB a video? Itâs literally the opposite of what what most sports photographers would want, unless theyâre going for an artistic effect where a blur would make for a more interesting final image. We spend all of our time trying to get the sharpest, most in-focus look. But motion blur just for the blurs sake??? I donât get it...đ€ And for what itâs worth, I shot for Sports Illustrated for years and the photo editors would give you a serious side-eye if you tried to sell a blurry image on them and call it âArtâ...đ As for the lens flare...Iâm pretty sure itâs being caused by the ND a filter, cuz even though all lenses will flare, I canât remember ever seeing that kinda flare with an unfiltered GoPro lens
@@bradtrent5298 For sports you're right! It should be different if it was for a cinematic video.
@@bradtrent5298 Sports photographers dont want motion blur that correct. Video is a different story. Thats why even video games have motion blur added in
đâŠOKâŠSure!!! But as a mountain biker AND a professional photographer all I can say is NOBODY wants blurry/shaky/arty mountain bike videos. Literally nobody đ€·ââïž

Bike Gear - Episode 1
Nd filters, doesn't work with digital image stabilization
Youâre right! I talk about that in the video.
@@chrisbucci may I ask how you got it to be so stable considering that Hypersmooth 3.0 didn't work?
@@SlashR4 đ€
@@SlashR4 Because he left the GoPro on Auto and didnât lock the ISO. The video as pointed out several times isnât a correct representation of ND filters and stabilization
You can use ND filters with stabilization. You just need a gimbal to make it work. There are many videos showing this including several on mountain bikes and all sorts of other things. Pretty cool!
where you from?
Simi Valley!
@@chrisbucci you may need to show me this sometime.
@@MTBdropIN Iâm down!
I see what this guy did there.... he just totally scammed us into showing off his downhill skills. Now I gotta go dust the dirt off the old 20" bmx bike.
