- Join us as we visit Gdańsk, Poland in this travel guide exploring the top attractions and best things to do in Gdansk (Danzig). As the final and northernmost destination we visit during our time in Poland this port city is one of the coolest places we've visited on this particular trip through Europe. From cobbled streets to posh museums to river cruises you'll find something for everyone here. One thing we noticed was that it was considerably more expensive in terms of accommodations and food compared with other Polish cities we've visited; however, it has charms that more than make up for it.

Our visit Gdańsk travel guide documentary covers some of the top attractions including a food guide, top sightseeing tourist attractions and the city by day including visiting castles, churches and museums. We also cover off-the-beaten-path outdoor activities you won't find in a typical Gdańsk tourism brochure, Gdańsk itinerary or Gdańsk, Poland city tour.
10 Things to do in Gdańsk, Poland Travel Guide script:
After visiting the Basilica, we walked over to the main pedestrian street in Gdansk: Dluga, also known as Long Street. Unlike most Polish cities, Gdansk doesn’t have a main square, but this stretch of road acts as the equivalent with lots of vendors and performers along the way.
On the west end of Dluga (Dooga) we came across the Amber Museum, which sounded a little unusual, so we bought tickets and went up. Here we learned the history of Amber trade in the Baltic, and we also discovered that the tower that now houses the museum, was once a prison and torture chamber.
Not done with museums just yet, our next stop was the Historical Museum of the City of Gdansk. I think we spent more time staring at the ornate doorways, ceilings and staircases, than we did at the exhibit itself!
Here, we also saw the Medieval Crane, which was first mentioned in texts in 1367, and was at one point the biggest working crane in the world.
Next, it was all aboard the SS Sołdek, a Polish coal and ore freighter which is now a ship-museum.
And since we’re on the topic of food, we need to show you a milk bar we really enjoyed.
On our last day in Gdansk, we walked over to the European Solidarity Centre, which is about a 15-20 minute walk from the Old Town. The museum tells the story of Solidarity, a Polish trade union and civil resistance movement, founded in 1980 at the Lenin Shipyard. This was the first union not controlled by the communist party, and it’s a fascinating museum to learn a bit more about the history.
And that’s a wrap for our Gdansk travel guide. We hope you guys enjoyed this video and that it gave you a few ideas of things to do in Gdansk on you visit. I'm living in Gdańsk since I was born there and I'm so grateful to see this video :') It's literally made me cry, it's so moving to see tourists admiring your city! Thanks
Thank you very much! We loved visiting and it was one of our favorite places we traveled to in Poland.
It's german

As someone who started visiting in Poland right after high school in 1998 (I was a theater actor in Iowa who was invited with an acting troupe to visit Teatr Wybrzeze), and started living there full time (2004 to 2014, aside from a short while in Scotland) after American military service, I am looking forward to doing a video series on my experiences, the culture, arts, music etc when I finally return to Poland in 2022 and 2023. I often joke with friends that 'Trojmiasto jest moj miasto, (bo jestem Troy)', and I will always love this area. I am particularly fond of Gdynia Orlowo and Sopot, but the entirety of the Tricity is in my heart all the time. I've been in Texas the past eight years, and miss Poland immensely! So thanks to these folks for putting on a great show! Na zdrowie!
Thank You and welcome again! We loved your video and would like to show it to others.
Thank you! We're happy to hear you enjoyed the video. 😊
So enjoying going through all your Poland videos, guys! We actually just changed our upcoming itinerary. Originally planned on just getting to Poznan, Wroclaw and Krakow, but we've now added on Gdansk and Warsaw. Also loved your shoutout to Atlantic Canada!
Thank you very much! Ah, that is so cool to hear. Hope you have a great time thoroughly exploring Poland :)
One of the best videos on Gdansk. Simple and straight to the point.

I spent 5 months living there, love that city.
It is a great city! I wish we had a bit more time there.

As always - I'm not disappointed with the new vlog! :) Not even can I decide which part of the guide to like most. :) I could go there right now. The city looks fantastic! :)
Thank you very much! It is a really cool city to visit. Quite different from the other ones we traveled to in Poland.
Hi guys.. that's my city! Thanks for showing it. Super glad you liked it. With regard to food : kompot - you take unprocessed fruit, fresh or frozen ( if winter time), can be of one kind or all sorts mixed, put it in a pot, pour over lots of fresh water and add some sugar. Then cook for about 15-30 min and allow to cool. That's all. The cutlet is called schabowy. And the pie/cake is called "pleśniak". Greetings and Take care!
Thank you very much! Really appreciate all of the explanations :)
really idol,? I know poolish people's are very nice.cause i have poolish friend
We took our kids to visit Gdansk in April 2017. Now my wife and I are determined to get back there! What an AWESOME city! Honestly, we would expatriate to Poland if it were possible. We both feel that Poland, and Gdansk in particular, is truly "Dom".
Thanks! That is really cool to hear. We'd love to go back as well.
@@abeedhal6519 dude. Gdańsk is more than a 1000 yr old
@Y T Nah
@Y T would be german if you would not start the war
What you see is truely an old German town called Danzig. After 1945 it was occupied by Poland.
During your dining experience at Neptun Milk Bar one of Gdansk's two carillons was playing in the background. These are not electronic - but actually require a Carilloneur (person who plays them from a playing desk up in the tower). Unusual for a city to have two lovely instruments like this.
Oh wow! Thanks for sharing that. We had no idea.
The best tour I've ever seen. Good luck in Poland.
Making kompot is very simple, usually you just boil fresh or frozen fruits in water for a short while with a pinch of sugar, and thats all :)
In a hot water so that not lose vitamines.
Ah, we'll have to try making it sometime ourselves. Such a refreshing drink :)
Ah, good tip!
You guys are awesome to watch, exactly the kind of people I like to meet on my travel adventures. Thanks for some incite into Gdańsk.
Thank you very much! We loved visiting Gdansk.
One of my favorite traveling vlogs, hands down 😀
Thank you very much!
Really helpful guide/ overview. Heading there in three weeks
I was in Gdansk this summer, fantastic city! Great video guys!;)
Thank you! How long did you stay?
Samuel and Audrey - Travel and Food Videos 3 days;)
Novigrad! :D
You've missed the Museum of World War 2, the biggest (and most comprehensive) museum about ww2 in the world, recently opened.
Great joke.
Our bad. Actually given that it just opened I think is why we missed it. It honestly wasn't on our radar.
Samuel and Audrey - Travel and Food Videos this is the queues for tickets czcams.com/video/tscKdn2SDy4/video.html
for first 3 months of working this museum. U MUST return and see main exhibition !
This is really cool. I really wanna visit Gdansk and I am a War History enthusiast and was thinking there really must be a lot of WW2 history in Gdansk.
Will definitely be checking that one out!
Recently openend?
Beautiful video, you got very lucky with the weather.
Thank you very much! We did get lucky with the weather :)
Maybe. IDK what month you guys were there but Polish weather is such that one summer could be sunny and warm for 3 months straight, then the next summer it can rain for 3 months straight.
Great timing. At the moment i am in the Polskibus to Gdansk. Staying there for 3 days.
Awesome to hear! How was your trip?
It was okay. The food was fantastic. I've loved Pierogies! Unfortunately the city was full with tourists, so I didn't really liked the city that much. I went to Hel (it's a peninsula 2 hours away by ferry) and made a 45 km biking trip there. This was great fun.
If you don't mind me asking, did you rent the bikes from somewhere or?
Sorin Vasile Bogdan Yes, I rented the bike in Hel. There was a girl next to the train station in Hel. Had a mountainbike which you really need for the bad biking trails on the peninsula. Bikes are really good and cost I think it was 9€ for the day.
DANZIG 🇩🇪
Great views of city. Girl tour guide is a beauty...wow
Great video! Gdańsk is wonderful!
Coming from Gdansk it's great to see people admiring your city. I think you guys missed some key things but still a great and helpful video for tourists. Also you visited mine and my family's favourite milk bar!
THank you very much Milena! What a great milk bar. Where would you recommend we go next time?
Another great video guys. Thank you! We chose to remain in Poland during the COVID 19 pandemic and stayed in lockdown in Krakow. Now things are starting back up again so we're planning to move on to Gdansk next. You've really inspired us to go!! Can't wait to try the milk bar! 😁😁
Thank you! Glad to hear you were safe in Poland and it sounds like the country did a good job overall with measures if things are opening up again slowly. Have a great time in Gdansk!
@@samuelandaudrey Thank you. We sure will. Tomorrow the bars and restaurants get to open for the first time in 2 months! Feels like my birthday is coming! 😆😆
Beautiful places. I wanna travel there ❤❤
Wow,very brave to climb😀🇨🇦 the church stairs, the city looks beautiful with lots to see.Thanks.
Thank you! It was quite the climb.
I do admire you for climbing up:) I did that once, too, and would have given up if not for the fact that it's imposible to do:) It's a warning to everyone who wants to do that while in Gdansk: once you start up, you have to go to the top, because it's a one-way staircase - to go down you have to take another staircase starting on the other side of the observation platform:):):) Don't go up if you have a frail heart:)
Ah, that is so true! We're both scared of heights and managed okay though. Not sure we'd do it again though.
i went there with my family for a few weeks in 2019! very lovely place
Thanks! Great to hear!
Kompot is a fruit drink, which is made by cooking fruits :) It is made from a lot of fruits, for example: apples, strawberries, sweet/sour cherries, pears, currants and rhubarb. Personally, I love when it's cold :) very fresh, fruity and cooling drink :)
If it comes to this soup, it was probably Zupa Jarzynowa, which could be translated as vegetable soup/greengrocery soup (it depends on the way somebody prepare its). This was thick variant. There is also rather thin variant. It is Polish version of Minestrone :)
Greetings :)
Thank you for explaining that in detail.
Beautiful place. I want to visit this place ❤❤❤
Piękny jest ten nasz Gdańsk :)
cool video and that city its beutiful. Just been there last summer
Thanks! Cool to hear.
Die schönste Stadt in der Welt. Ich liebe Polen und polnischer Leuten. Ich kann nicht glaube wie schön Danzig (Gdańsk) ist. Ich bin so stolz auf alles.
"Kompot" should be made by adding a water and fruits together to the pot and boil them until getting that flavour:) Thats why you have a pieces of for example a strawberry in it:*
Thanks for letting us know!
...kompot...add any fruit to the pot add whater and sugar, boiling for 15 min ...and good...all natural....
another great vid friends! now I wish I would have visited Gdansk while i was in Poland though lol.
Thank you! A good reason to come back :)
...that cake looks so friggin' good! Was in Gdansk on my vacation last year. I really enjoyed my stay there. Nice locals
Thanks! It seriously was. That is cool to hear. Any plans to revisit?
Hello
Actually last years trip was a 2 week, mainly eastern European, car trip, which including beautiful Gdansk(which was having a apple festival while we were there) , Czech Republic and Ukraine, and also Germany. So many beautiful places to visit!
This Oct we are going up to New England and Canada (NS). By your accents, I assume you are Canadian?
Hoping the colors in Maine will be at their peak while there
My best, Michael
Polish cakes are better then American ones
Great video!! 😊
Thank you!
Amazing video.. look at the size of the description. Planning to visit this great city next month. Thanks guys
Thank you very much!
I was there a couple of days ago! Beautiful place. We stayed in Sopot, which was the perfect place to stay. Recommended!
That is really cool to hear!
Thx. For Gdańsk!
Thanks! We really enjoyed visiting!
Super👍😀
Thanks Renata!
Me enamoré de Gdansk.. volveré
I'm having such a great time watching your polish videos! Considering you've seen most of the country, can you rank the cities you've visited? I've been to Warsaw and Krakow myself and I would like to know how those two compare to the rest of the country. Oh and did you make it to Auschwitz?
Love it 💗
Ah, thank you!
Sam's slice of cake at Neptune Milk Bar looks somewhat delicious, not to mention FANCY for an Eastern European dessert!
Thanks Brady! Oh, we ate well in Poland. Still thinking about all the pierogi!
Great video! I’m taking my friends for a trip there in November and can’t wait to show them around! I lived in Gdańsk for 6 years- still miss it every now and then!
Also at 3:09 - just an FYI that the actual old town is a different part of the city, it’s the area between the Old Town Hall and goes all the way towards the solidarity museum and the shipyard. Dluga street and the parts of town you’ve shown is just simply called the Main Town 😊 or as locals call it - Gdansk! Yes, the other areas of the city are called by it’s own names - which is kinda weird tbh but it makes sense historically.
Thanks Anna! It will be great to show your friends around.
How is the weather in November?
9:29 best thing Ive seen about Gdansk in several videos so far. And maybe that astronomical clock.
Thanks, we miss Gdansk.
My girlfriend and myself are going on the 8th december, going to visit your recommended spots 🕺
That is cool to hear! Hope you have a great time :)
So good video 👍
Im visiting Gdansk next week!
That is exciting to hear!
me too
I highly recommend it to visit Toruń and Bydgoszcz it's a lot to see
Thanks, would love to visit Toruń next time.
Torun I agree, but Bydgoscz? I told some locals I want to go there, and even a girl who was from there told me not to go there. There"s nothing of tourist interest in Bydgoscz. It's a modern industrial town.
Damn....I just came from Gdansk and it’s a a great review
You know how to eat ... way to go Canada yey!!
Thank you very much! Great to hear about your time in Gdanks.
you guys are fantastic. I love your videos. planing to go to Gdanks in July. Your Gdanks guide is super helpful. oh and also, are all these attractions in a walking distance?
Neptun milk bar is epic! Great location, fantastic food, ridiculuos prices and moody service - absolutely love the place.
PS: Just in case anyone asks - I'm not the owner, my grandma doesn't work there etc :)
thanks a lot..! :)
thanks
The most beautiful city in Poland. There is everything here, the wind from the sea, a beautiful beach, medieval architecture, monuments, the Old Town of Gdańsk with Neptune (Gdanska Starowka) and the inhabitants of Gdańsk who love tourists.
im from poland and i loove Gdańśk! Greetings:)
Thank you! It is a very cool city to visit :)

Kompot is really easy to make. Just throw some fruits into the pot (apples, strawberries and other berries, cherries, apricots, even plums - every combination works) and add a shitload of sugar, sometimes lemon juice or vanilla, cover with water and boil it :) Love yout vlog, especially those videos from Poland. You both seem so kind :)
Thanks for letting us know!
My City ❤❤
Thank you!
Ah, this is where I grew up ;)
Cool to hear!
I'm off to Gdansk in a fortnight's time. Thanks for the tip about the view from the amber museum as I didn't think I'd manage all the steps at the church so that seems like a good alternative.
Hope you have a great visit Margaret!
@@samuelandaudrey Thank you.Mxx
i went to there at one month before ~it’s really nice place
That is cool to hear!
That cutlet is called a schabowy
Cool! I'm in Helsinki going to Tallinn via ferry now :-)
I'm at a Mac in Tartu, Estonia now. Going to live for 2 years!
Awesome man!
Very cool. We'll let you know if we're heading to Estonia.
How could i miss this place ...,,,!!! Sa sad
Hope you can visit next time!
Hello guys, thank you for the great video. How long do you recommend staying in Gdansk? I'm thinking 2 days.
Cheers!
I'm from there ♡♡♡ I live in gdańsk since i was born
That is really cool to hear!~
Хорошее видео, я был в Гданьске красивый город
Nice video. What camera do you use. Its Amazing quality in The film.
Thank you! We use a Panasonic GH5.
Hello Sam and Audrey, thanks for the very informative video. Absolutely love it. We're going next year, you mentioned you stayed at an airbnb accomodation. Do you mind sharing your experience? Many thanks :)
Thank you! That is cool to hear. I remember that with this booking we waited a bit longer and there wasn't as much available or at as cheap of a price as in other cities in Poland. Our biggest tip would be when you know your dates that you'd like to visit book weeks to a couple of months in advance for more selection.
Thanks for the advise. We will keep that in mind. :)
Poland may not be overloaded with famous tourist attractions but the food sure looks really good.
Thanks! The food is a big highlight for sure.
Poland gets actually pretty touristy. 10mln yearly visit Kraków. Gdańsk is less. And most of ppl coming to Gdańsk are German
Thanks for posting. Canadian travel-vloggers are infinitely more bearable than American tourists... ✌🏼
Thanks! We had a great time in Gdansk!
Hey guys, thanks for the heads up about milk bars. Heading to Gdansk this July and now really looking forward to it thanks to your video. I'm from Sydney, Australia so not real sure but is Gdansk pronounced with a silent 'G' as in Dansk?
Hello from Utah, My spouse and I are in the early stages of planning a 2.5 week vacation in Poland. Gosh I really need some insight/advice from our favorite youtubers...yes you guys. 2.5 weeks is not much time to experience the country. What do you recommend? We do not night party much at all. We like history, nature and historic architecture. We do airbnb always as long as there is a cloths washer. What city do you recommend where maybe we can do a few day trips. We typically do not rent a car but do like trains, uber and bus services. Thank you. PS: we love your videos!!!! Your Venice Video was inspiring and so far top ten. That is the sort of vacation we enjoy where every corner is a breathtaking view or experience
Thank you very much! That is really exciting to hear about your trip. For a 2.5 week trip I'd prioritize Krakow, Warsaw and Gdansk. You'd have plenty of time to explore each city with opportunities for day trips as well.
Such a beautiful city i have visited there twice.
I visited here in December.loved it.
Can anyone tell me how to make winter tea as I've tried but I'm missing an ingredient somewhere.Cant get the same flavour
Great to hear! Would love to know that as well Arlene!
wait you missed the museum of world war II its the triangle looking building shown at 2:14
We had no idea! How stupid of us.

Gracias!
I will go on a trip from Latvia to Gdansk tomorrow!
How exciting! Have a great time in Gdansk.
Samuel and Audrey - Travel and Food Videos thanks! Im there right now and having a blast!
Hey Guys, I've been to Krakow before, but I'm keen on doing a weekend trip when I'm back in Berlin on exchange. Which would you recommend? Warsaw or Gdansk?
I would maybe suggest Gdansk because it is more different compared to Berlin than Warsaw.
*That cake!* *gimme 2!*
Hi im from poland from gdańsk 'n' im in this video :)
Thanks!
Where?
Hello!
I will come to Gdansk and i need advice for the best hotel to stay. And best places to visit!?
Thanks
Kompot should be made from boiled fruits about 10 minutes, usually with sugar (as without it is vary sour). But some restaurants I think can make it from same fruit syrope? especially if they are to sweet.
Thanks for the tip!
After reading Gunter Grass's Tin Drum, I feel like I have already been there. The place where you were eating has the same name as the main character in the novel.
That is so cool to hear Mario!
I just came from poland 2 hours ago. I was in Gdansk really lovely place and the zoo there was so big and Amazing!❤️
Great to hear!
going to see my schatje in gdansk .. she lives in kalinigrad and for her to get there is iesier then for me to get to her.. thanx for the tour

Cool! We enjoyed visiting your city.
Bella skyway awaits you!

Kompot- you add to friuts some Woter and sugar nad you boil it until its ready ;)
Thanks for letting us know!
kompot is literally the simplest of recipies- you add fruits to a pot with water and some sugar and then boil it for an hour or two.
Thanks for letting us know.
Kompot is boiled fruit with some sugar.(it's like fruit soup)
Thanks for letting us know :)
very nice #gdansk
Thanks Evlenince!
I like so much yr vlogs where are u from guys?
I came from Poland but I live in Brussels anyway Im so happy that u like our beautiful country ;)
Thank you! We're from Canada.
Hi guys, planning a trip to Poland. Just wondering how expensive Poland is compared to Canada? Just added Gdansk to my itinerary after watching this vlog. Thanks a lot!
Thanks Davis! It is considerably cheaper than Canada. Especially for buses, trains and meals out. If you avoid touristy restaurants and go to local milk bars (eateries) you can grab nice meals for just a few dollars.
@@samuelandaudrey Thank you so much for this info. I really appreciate it. Sorry for waking you up so early. ;-)
What beat is that in the beginning? It goes hard!
Sorry, I forget the name.
I am surprised you knew that Sołdek was a Singlescrew Steamship. I didn't.
Thanks, we try to research the places we visit whenever we can.
That fish & chips looked sub par
That restaurant is very expensive. Most people don't realise you pay per 100g for the fish, as it doesn't tell you outside. There is a superb restaurant literally round the corner, you should have gone there! Also, your beer wouldn't be in a plastic glass, ugh!
Sooo Samuel, whats your opinion on ginger-ale?
I like it!
