    I think the Freelancers can take some inspirations from the Hull-A whenever they get the gold pass. I'd like to see that second row of seats just pulled out so that the habitation area can get resized and brought up to a higher standard.

    • @kriegjaeger
      @kriegjaeger Před 6 měsíci +2

      Yeah there's not much purpose of 3 copilot, no suit lockers or racks in a ship largely too narrow for three people to even move past one another in the ship

    • @Gazbeard
      @Gazbeard Před 6 měsíci +1

      That "2nd row of seats" is actually the gunner stations (as featured in ships such as the MSR and Carrack).

      They already stated at Bar Citizen in Dublin that the older ships such as the Freelancer series will not be getting aesthetic updates other than what they now call 'current tech passes'. This will add improved functionality such as door panels, MFD's and components but anyone thinking CIG are going to add anything getting structurally fixed isn't going to happen. There is no ROI in it for CIG.
      Not once has CIG ever stated old ships will be getting a 'rework' this has always been an assumption from players. Only if they explicitly state a ship will be getting a change may it happen i.e 600i

      Well, as I understand it. The freelancers do need to have two things done to them. That could get turned into one. Physicalized component pass / a "Gold" pass. So it has to be done at some point to bring it up to par within the game! So to look at it in those terms. It is in a way it's a "rework" of some kind. If you want to split hairs? Rework/Physicalized component/a "Gold" pass. Footwear is footwear.

    I really love the Freelancer but wish that they would reimagine the interior across the entire series: the habitation need some seating and a table. The airlock could be combined with the Docking Collar (moving the turret cheeks a bit forward, or backward).
    In regards to the MIS: would be cool if the manned turret be sized up, it's a GUNship for a reason, not a torpedo/missile boat. But yeah 28xS3 is... alot of boom and is the perfect big brother to the Reliant Tana (with 20 S2 missiles).

      The rear turret could be made into a remote turret operated by the copilot (and have a small tractor beam on the back like the Cutter and the Spirit), also eliminating a couple of the seats in the cockpit - there's more seating in the Freelancer cockpit than in the largest MISC ships available. That would free up some room for habitation area like in the Hull-A, though probably not as spacious a bathroom since it's for 2 crew

    Farrister - Features you missed ....
    - the beds are escape pods
    - the cockpit rear seats are dual role and can take control of the cheek turrets each side of the forward half of the hull
    - all the Freelancers have dual size-M computers, specifically for hosting AI computer blades to automate the top rear turret, smuggle/store data, make longer interstellar jumps, etc. (Cutlasses only have one size-M) - these are computer purposes that will gradually be introduced before final release (confirmed as going to happen)
    - front co-pilot (right hand) seat is for the missile-mode weapons-control crew member
    - Freelancers have the larger fuel tanks to perform multiple inter-stellar jumps before refuelling (Cutlasses will only be able to make one such jump as per their localised militia roles - quote from Chris Roberts c.2016)
    - Freelancers have that huge-footprint main (rear) undercarriage for landing on soft terrain that other similar sized ships will not be able to land on closer to final release
    - the ablutions cubby (shoilet in SC terminology) is a future gameplay vital feature - personal hygiene will have a definite impact on interactions with NPCs, and bodily excretions will be a gameplay mechanic ... you know how you can't concentrate when you need the bathroom?
    Also, the MIS was concepted long before the TNGSS competition that created the Redeemer, (which John Crewe butchered i.m.o.), and the much later Hammerhead and Valkyrie style gunships, which is why it is now lighter gunned than you'd expect, but was a heavy hitter for it's original concept date.

    The MIS really is a beast if you play it right, like most large fighter/gunships you don't want to get into dogfights with them, you want to blast enemies to dust at range. But the ship really excels at that, you can turn most ships to scrap before they even get in range to return fire.

    The Freelancer is my first Kickstarter ship and the MIS was the variant I upgraded to as soon as they were announced. Now, I have 19 ships and a handful of vehicles. My 400i is my Daily Driver, but I fly all of them from my Cutter Rambler to my 600i Explorer. Even after all this time, my MIS is still the first ship I take out after a wipe. Its stock components and performance are hard to beat. With Military Grade B components, a Crossfield QT drive, four pilot-turreted S3 Laser Cannons, and a ridiculous number of missiles, you don't need to do much to it. Though, I do like to swap out the wings for 16 Pioneer Is and 8 Rattler IIs. Plus, now that we have the STV, it's even better for running bunkers.

I decided to do my best to not expand my fleet in numbers a few years back and only CCU the ones I have to bigger and better ships, all within the range of the 125a to 600i Explorer. Intellectually, I know it's not really any more than I've spent on other MMOs... but those are hidden behind monthly subs where I'd have to do a fair bit of accounting to calculate. Greetings Farrister. I know it's been a while since I posted a comment. I'm glad you picked one of the Legacy ships to review. I've always liked the Freelancer series ships, in spite of it's age. Honestly speaking, I have two of them and I almost bought a third. I've flown the MIS and I did like it. Having the larger numbers of missiles was a selling point that interested me. The only reason I decided against it was the lower cargo capacity. Being an explorer at heart, The Freelancer DUR was my first choice, and because I was looking for a smaller cargo ship that carried more than my Constellation Aquila, I chose the Freelancer MAX. They are smaller than some of the larger cargo ships available, like the Caterpiller, (the only one available when I bought my MAX), the Hercules C2, the A1, and the Hull series. For me all of them were too big for me, personally, and outside my budget. Maybe sometime in the future I may buy one of the C2's with in game currency. But it will be for making profit only. Take care my friend, fly safe, and I'll see you in the verse.

  • @LeoBarton
    @LeoBarton Před 6 měsíci +2

    The Freelancers were the first family of ships that I fell in love with when I started playing, and for a long time I would hop between the MIS or MAX depending on whether I was focusing on combat or hauling/ROC mining. Eventually though, I started testing other ships, and the age of the Freelancers started becoming apparent. Those two extra seats need to go, and the rear turret needs to become remote. Get rid of the two lower beds (still the remaining ones are top bunks) and add living amenities like the kitchenette and a table tucked into opposite walls. On the MIS and DUR, the bespoke sections need to be moved forward to replace the section where the docking port is, because you can't use that area for anything except cargo filled at kiosks -- getting crates through those too-narrow doors is a nightmare.
    I'm more of a Drake boy now, but I still fondly think about my old Freelancers, and look forward to the day they get their gold passes.

    The MIS is my daily driver and it's a great all-round, jack-of-all trades vehicle. With that said, I wish it had either larger main and turret guns, or better shields, it is a "Gun Ship" so it would make sense. If I were to update the ship overall, I would do away with the docking port (what was ever the point?) and add a swappable module for either an unmanned turret, sensor pod, or an interdiction system. On the topic of sensors, those two (boobie bumps) on the front really imply better sensor ranges, but there isn't any really. For a four-man crew, there really isn't anything for them to do, so either add functionality or do away with two of the seats and two beds and add a real kitchen area and space for suit and weapon storage. I already see problems when (if) the Freelancer gets its GoldPass with access to the system modules being right next to the cargo area, good luck getting to them in the middle of the fight with a full load of cargo! The Freelancer in general and the MIS specifically has so much potential, but feels like it's been forgotten by CIG, which is a shame, but I'll keep driving this hidden gem till the wheels fall off!

    I still look at it as a mini connie, except for most people I'd say either just stick to a normal freelancer then (save quite a few bucks) or bite the bullet and get a connie andromeda or taurus which as you pointed out is a similar experience, but better and more, for marginally more dollars.
    I want to like the ship, but I really hate that the arms are positioned over the displays, so you only have 2 actually usable MFDs which is even less than some small fighters.
    I've melted mine for some time now and probably will just buy one in-game when I have spare change.

  • @Tentacl
    @Tentacl Před 6 měsíci +2

    While I do like the freelancer line (I had a base version and a max before upgrading my pack to a Taurus) I can't really justify having the MIS exactly because of the price: 165 for that x 200 for a Taurus seems to be pretty irrational to me.

    I really wish the MISC ships were more competitive (not including Hull series, etc), maybe in the far future when it's MISC's turn for development. As they stand currently, I just can't justify buying a Reliant or Freelancer regardless of how much I like them. I understand some ships just need to perform poorly to fit the role of progression, but just like the Gladiator all it would take is some minor buffs to make them relevant. Swap the MIS guns to S4, and allow greater choice in missile racks up to S5 or S6.

    I truly believe if CIG did the gold standard upgrades to the whole freelancer line the way they should these ships would not only jump up their game but would be much more in demand,I personally owned all 4 and loved all of them,I traded up for the new Zeus line up and a spirit but traded the spirit for an Arrastra.What the main problem with most of the Freelancer ship was it all felt a little cramped and somewhat unorganized,the cockpit needs drastic changes to the visibility along the Prospector level, the seating should be similar as well 3 seats not 4, Captain front and center,Co-pilots right back of the captain controlling the rear turret that should be controlled remotely from the co-pilot's seat eliminating unnecessary entry to the cargo area with full load of cargo and the 3rd seat should be the Missiles payload/power distribution specialist left rear.Crew quarters behind the closed off cockpit should be for bedding for 3/(4 for the explorer version) and galley lounge area sectioned off from that is the EVA and ladder/airlock/docking collar room with suits and weapons racks move that cargo back to where it belongs.all the ships should be widened at least 1 to 2 scu and lengthened to keep or exceed what they have for storage now,all rear doors should be widened as well as have an extending ramp for better entry and egress.Somewhere in there they have to get entry points for all the components and future equipment to be removed and replaced during missions not to mention a storage area for parts maybe under decking or in wall cavities.The height of at least the cargo area should go up higher or down enough to accommodate more land vehicles in game with a walkway for the crew as well as all the polish these great ships deserve.When I upgraded my ships to the new line I expected to be given a loaner for my ships until the release date.I did but not what I expected, I though one of them was going to be a Max but sadly it was a spirit which is very undersized,I formed a plan to get a new max lol and Christmas provided such a opportunity,the holiday ship skins came out and I upgraded a rambler to a 100i and got the holiday skin then upgraded it to a Avenger the upgraded to the Nomad and then purchased the Max upgrade but did not apply it just in case I liked the Nomad a lot, needless to say I did get all the holiday skins and LTI with the ship.I will regain all the Freelancer line when it gets the gold standard maybe sooner if it comes up with a LTI and sale.thank you again for a great subject and excellent job as usual.

    The turret is one of the most signs of age. This turret really needs to be unmanned and controlled by the co-pilot seat. If the turret was unmanned it would no longer get in the way of cargo. If CIG still demands manned seat, the rails of the turret need to be altered to no block cargo. Finally with any change, the turret needs to be a little higher so that turret CAN fire forwards without hitting the hull.

    But it needs something more. Either better radar to outrange fighters, or the ability to missile swarm, or stealth, or something. Right now, most missiles miss, and any fighter or medium ship will chase it down and kill it too close for it to use its missiles.

    I personally love my Freelancer MAX and at one time owned a MIS. I sold the MIS because of the incomplete aspect of missile combat. When any player can just click a single button and spoof all missiles, there is just no reason to fire them. The only current use for MIS is as support in order to make larger ships use all of their decoys in order to allow a ship with torpedo to take out. If CIG finally figures out a skill based mechanic which is fair and make missiles useful again, I will probably use a buy back token to get it back.
