  • The daily-driver 5.9 Magnum going into my truck is going to be carbureted - at least to start with - so I needed a manifold to replace the factory EFI manifold. There aren't a lot of options for the Mopar Magnum engines, and since I'm trying to keep this build lower-cost I decided to try out the Speedmaster mid-rise intake. In this video we'll take a look at the intake as well as the general steps for installing an intake, no matter which one you choose.

    Thank you for the build guide. Your vids are to the point. Some other guy has over 17 "steps" but every video is 20 minutes of him unboxing the parts. Thats it. So thanks for doing actual engine work.

    Also I believe those round dimples on the lower part of the intake manifold is where you can drill and weld mpi port for fuel injectors

    the bolt holes are ovaled? that means that the gasket head and intake must be aligned perfectly

    So there's no video completed and running? Ive got this same intake manifold. Didnt work out. Took 2 gasket sets to get coolant sealed up. Then after trying 3 or 4 different carbs trying to adjust it, i found that it would run with carburator blocked off. There is a major vacuum leak somewhere in #6 or #8 runner. Curious how yours turned out.

    Asking a lot from something a little more than the 1/3rd the price of the Hughes stuff . May use one with a throttle body injection setup on top that’s sold , it ooks like an old Demon carburetor.
    How does it perform ?
    I know if you do a little work on a Kegger it acts just like a tunnel Ram or a LS style manifold. Considering it was designed for all torque for a truck it couldn’t be worse than a stick Kegger

    Hello, when using this on magnum 5.9. what carb did you use and how did you wire it? What else would I need to swap out kag ND fuel injection for the carb set up. Thanks for video. I just subscribed.

    • @YoshimoshiGarage
      @YoshimoshiGarage  Před 2 lety +1

      I used an Edelbrock 1406. The only wiring needed is switched power for the choke. That said, if you're replacing injection, I don't have any idea what the ECU will think, what the dash will end up doing or if it will affect the way the transmission shifts.

      If anyone comes across this looking for info; you need an LA distributor. The magnum “distributor” isn’t actually a distributor, it’s to synch the fuel injection.

    • @YoshimoshiGarage
      @YoshimoshiGarage  Před 3 lety +1

      Yes, I'm using a carb and will likely move toa a Holley injection setup. If you want to keep the factory EFI, the factory manifold is the only option I know of.

    I bought one and it was the worst china casting I have ever had. I literally put my finger around one runner turn and cut myself and on the top one was hole big enough to put my finger tip in. I spent a couple hours debuting and epoxying

    Never actually showed how to install the middle plugs properly. Would you recommend this intake?

    • @YoshimoshiGarage
      @YoshimoshiGarage  Před 3 lety

      I shaved them on the lathe. Someone else suggested freezing them and maybe heating the manifold . Probably worth a try. If I were to do it again, hard to say. The Edelbrock is a lot nicer fit and finish, but it's a lot more expensive, too. For a daily driver, I'd say it's good enough.

    • @YoshimoshiGarage
      @YoshimoshiGarage  Před 3 lety +1

      Mostly price. There aren't many options for the Magnum engines, and since I'm using the factory cam, I wanted a dual plenum and that puts me at either this one or the Edelbrock. They don't look functionally much different and this one was quite a bit cheaper (and you can see why). Should work fine, just not quite as "finished" looking.
