So here's the deal with the "get the Wizard a microphone" comments. After a few years of trial and error on sound recording, I no longer trust wireless microphones. Since I don't have someone behind the camera, or a sound guy listening for issues, there's too much risk of a video getting ruined by audio issues-- which has happened so many times in the past. Currently I put a sound recorder in my pocket that's wired directly to the microphone.
It takes longer to edit this way, but the difficulty would go up by over 9000 if I had to jump back and forth syncing and editing between 2 microphones. So when I film with the wizard, I try and stay close to him, and I turn up the sound level to MAX when he speaks. It doesn't help that he's also pretty soft spoken. I'm sorry, but this is as good as it's going to get without someone helping me film, and the cost and effort of that is NOT worth it.
Also, I didn't actually mean to hang up on him, as I thought the conversation was over-- and called him back after I finished the video. I love that man!

Does 16" tires fit on 415 mm TRX rims (16" equals 406mm)?

    • @michaelovitch
      @michaelovitch Před 6 lety +4

      "TRX Tyres
In the 1980s BMW fitted tyres known as TRX to some higher performance models. TRX were advanced for their time and used a special design of wheel and tyre lip to hook the tyre to the rim for improved high stress cornering performance. To avoid the dangers of fitting normal tyres to a TRX rim they were all made in metric sizes which only a TRX tyre would fit. Only Ferrari, Jaguar and a few other manufacturers used TRX
TR means "Tension Repartie" (spread tension). Michelin's design called for a shallower rim that allowed freer movement of the tire sidewalls under compression but provided a progressively increasing lateral stiffness during cornering. This was thought to be a boon for the high-end luxury-sporty car market as it in theory would allow for a more comfortable ride without sacrificing cornering ability through controlling the slip-angle with sidewall stiffness. In essence BMW thought they were providing the ride quality of a 70-series tire with the handling benefits of a 60-series profile.
Modern tyres have better tread patterns and rubber compounds than TRX. TRX are also quite expensive and harder to get hold off than modern tyres. When the TRXs on my 635CSi wore out I bought and refurbished some used 15" cross spoke alloys and bought modern tyres.
TRX tyres may be spotted by a designation of 220/55VR390 or 415 on the tyre sidewall."

@@michaelovitch Yes, the seller explains this in the first video. But according to wiki, the change to 16" rims was done allready during model year 1986 and this is a 1988 car. So either wiki is wrong, or this car was for some reason delivered (or retro fitted) with the earlier oem wheels.

The nightmares of having more than one car:
Waking up in the middle of the night, suddenly realizing that some of your cars haven't been moved or maintained in ages.
      And have flat batteries.
      And flat tires.
      And rusty brakes.
      And need an oil change.
      And a new timing belt.
No wonder rich people buy new cars all the time.

2:21. I'll bet the Testarossa uses a Bosch starter. Exact same noise my Mark 4 Jetta used to make during start up. After you let go of the key, the spring in the starter motor can't retract the pinion fast enough so the flywheel is spinning the pinion momentarily. The solution is to disassemble the starter and clean and lubricate the mechanism that retracts the pinion. I hope you don't have to drop the engine to remove the starter!

I think we are starting to reach a peak where smartphones are now, the specs keep increasing but there hasn't been any huge innovations over the past few years. All of this done in less than a month. Still have a bit of a leak, but I figured I'd get after it around my next oil change, assuming I can verify where it's coming from (I suspect oil pan, which is the reason for the wait - might even have my mechanic take care of it for me). The "idle hunting" could be caused by the extra warm up injectors if your car is equipped with the K-Jetronic system. A non conventional way of solving this problem is very simple: disconnect their connectors! We just finished restoring our Ferrari with a similar setup and changing the distributor caps plus spark plug wires further reduced, excessive exhaust smell included. Once you have the engine out just replace all the fuel lines if they are the original ones. Those braided lines may look good from outside but will probably be dry and rotten on the inside, especially if the previous owner barely drove the car. The same can be said about both the fuel pump and the fuel accumulator. Please let me know if you need any help, i spent over a year figuring most of this stuff out and I wouldn't mind passing on the information i accumulated with you if it helps you save some time and headaches!
