Not only did the pilot fly over the airport for the ground crews and ATC to assess the landing gear, but the long, wide, slow turn around, gaining altitude and then descending, served three purposes. It burned off some fuel; it allowed time to assemble any emergency crews; it allowed other planes to land and get out of the way so this flight could land as safely as possible.
A great assessment! You must be well acquainted with planes or are you a pilot?
@@juliemanarin4127--I am not a pilot, but in my U S Navy days I worked with and (yes) dated Navy pilots (and one Air Force pilot). They are extremely intelligent, think fast on their feet, appreciate women as intelligent as they are (and, in my days in the US Navy, women didn't get to fly planes/jets), and talk flying all the time. They were more like brothers than anything else. One of them was my childhood sweetheart. I am still friends with those who are still on this side of paradise today.
I came to type the exact thing, so I’ll just give you a thumbs-up and say ditto! :)

@@insertname5057 it drives me crazy. The cabin door isn't even open, so no one can get off the plane. If it is someone with a close connection and the plane is late, I would understand, but it happens on every single flight, even the ones that land early. People can be such a joy.
@@cremebrulee4759 Same happens on trains. There's a long railway tunnel (7-8km) through the city before the train stops at one of the central stations. Invariably as soon as the train enters the tunnel people start standing up and being a nuisance to everyone else by lumbering around the carriage while the train is still moving at 160km/h and jostling them around.
They then proceed to stand for several minutes and get angry if we stop before the station due to another train still occupying our platform.
It takes literally _5 seconds_ to get up and reach the doors.
Damn faulty indication lights. Get your heart pumping extra every time. The pilot was very smooth and professional! Glad it went welll.
Thankfully it's just a false alarm 90% of the time. I would not want to be landing an aircraft with a landing gear issue
At the end of the video pilot mentions not having enough hydraulic fluid to make it to the docking thingamajig.
Clearly not a light failure. He also landed with no flaps meaning there was a hydraulic issue. The jet would have come in fast, even with landing gear the pilots did a stellar job.
That one impatient person that unbuckles their seatbelt right after landing
One almost whishes that nosewheel had collapsed at that moment thus breaking that passenger chin/ nose when they slammed there head into the seat in front of them.
Alot of people do it, Including me, But not to take it off, i usually unbuckle it to loosen it up a little right after the plane has slowed down, I am afraid of flying, so on landing & Takeoff i usually strap it in real tight witch is very unconfrtable, so yeh.....
I’m disappointed he didn’t say “butter” when it landed.
Jon Campos someone above said butter means “smooth”. It was a smooth landing.
If I were to be a pilot I’d have to contain myself so as to NOT say “butter” on good landings or “Ryanair” or bad landings
Jon Campos - Using the term butter is an analogy for a smooth landing. Airforceproud says it a lot when he’s playing Flight Sim X
it hurts my soul that so many passengers immediately become aviation experts the second they think something is wrong...
carl believe me, it’s not just when they think something is wrong....
Well, better to be preventive than to be sorry.
I do know that if I see ice in my plane wings, that is a really bad thing. That happened in my charter flight in South America, nobody cared about it, and my companions werent eager about me going to talk with the pilots.
But as I saw more and more ice, and turbulence was happening more and more, I stood up and went right to the front. I told an aircrew about the issue and she went with me to check the wings, then she went to the pilot's cabin and thanked me. The plane started to loose some altitude, and the wings started to defrost.
This is one of the closest I've been to an aircraft accident happening to me, but I'm glad I could be there to prevent it.
@@mamneo2 Funny enough people are meant to report problems like this to the aircraft crew.
You've done what was meant to be done, respect.
@@thomasvleminckx obviously it's okay to ask questions, but I'm 90% sure he's on about the type of Karens and people who act like they know the problem and the solution when they're just passengers who don't know anything about aviation.
I like that the pilot is very calm during this situation
Sure. All pilots are trained to be icy calm. But it's still remarkable.....
That was a minor problem as far as landing gear problems go. Even if the nose gear was up and locked it's just a test of the pilot's skills to hold the nose up until the plane has slowed enough for the weight to pull the nose down.
If it was one of the other landing gear that can be a problem.
Sounds like pretty routine issues. The best I've seen are two conflicting altimeter
That aircraft is still traveling over 60mph and you hear some idiot unfasten their seat belt.
I love the way pilot handled telling the passengers. I wasn’t on the flight so I can’t say for sure, but if I was I would have felt safe because of his tone and his confidence in what he was saying. Thanks to all the pilots out there for doing such a great job of getting us down safe.
I love the fact that the flight deck told the passengers all the details. That helps them prepare mentally, and far better, for anything.
So often I hear a Captain tell passengers:
" We have a little problem ", when they really have a major problem to deal with.
You'll notice that nobody panicked at the announcement.
I would much rather, as a passenger, be told all the problem details, than not be told.
Mike12522 i recently was on a flight with a "little problem" . now, i have anxiety and practically KNOW if something's wrong. i was crying and begging my mom to get off but she said we were fine. thankfully we were, but once we landed, one of the people said "sorry about the delay earlier. we had a major problem but we were lucky to make it in one piece"
maybe they were joking, or maybe it was luck, but im terrified of flying now
Especially since:
1) You're communicating what you know which includes some uncertainty but the uncertainty is communicated
2) You're communicating what passengers can expect in terms of experience for worst case scenario
3) You're giving both passengers and flight attendants the information required so that they could properly prepare (hello crash positions)
Sure, everyone is a little more nervous touching down, but they aren't playing out worst case scenarios for plane failures in their heads, they're playing out worst case scenarios for nose gear failures in their heads
this landing is better than most landings with fully working landing gear..
it's because they had the problem the pilot had to be more careful than average with the landing.
THE8IGKILLER Yes I know, what you said doesn't contradict with what I said :), the pilot had to be more careful and gentle with the landing.
As an example, if there was a problem with the hydraulics the landing gear could retract on touchdown due to the lack of hydraulic pressure.
"Isn't that the airport!?"
Pilot: I see a nice wheat field though....... let's make this shit interesting!
read the pilot part in a typical Obama voice. makes that shit much more hilarious
Incase anyone was ondering, pilot passed low over airport to have the ATC look at the plane and tell him if landing gear is down or not.
+Zack It was down but pilot was uncertain if it would hold...That's why the emergency vehicles were there...
Zack well done kid what makes you say that when it was mentioned in the video
It was a visual inspection like the one they did on jetBlue's twisted nose gear landing.
Don't clap so soon.....you might be down but your still doing 150mph.....you haven't stopped yet.
Yeah I though the flight attendant was going to yell at them for not staying in brace position :P

The reality is I was wearing a wrist strap on my camera, so you don't need to worry about it becoming some kind of deadly flying projectile...I recorded this to share an unusual situation on an aircraft that most probably haven't experienced before, not to encourage others to "do the same" or just for the pure thrill of "disobedience". It wasn't easy trying to understand your grammar but I think I get what you're saying, and if I'm reading it right, I think you're a bit off..
Well I flew with Ryanair from S to BLN and I have to say the pilot did a great job with the landing: very low sinkrate, almost impossible to discern if already on ground, then strong reverse thrust at the last third of the runway...
The reason for the malfunction is that you didn't turn off all electronic devices
@BH Ultimate That Is lies. they do it so you're paying attention during the safety demo.
Brandon that’s is furthest from the truth. I advise you do some research.
The radio constantly searches through radio waves and produces inaudible static in the pilots microphones when electronic devices are on in mass onboard the plane
Brandon airplane mode stops the radio waves from reaching other devices out and inside of the plane. If you have lots of radio waves all concentrated in one place like that, it interferes with the pilot’s air traffic communication and as such can make it difficult to hear what’s going on. It does not have any immediate effect to the aircraft, but it does make things much harder. It can also make things like radio waves guiding the plane from the ground using ILS more smooth due to less interference.

'Now we do have 5 parachutes on board and our stewardesses will be putting your seat numbers into a bucket to draw the lucky winners - for the unlucky ones we have copies of our inflight magazine which should help you keep your mind off things'
You cant go on parachutes in aircraft you can in others bot to much G force, speed, hight and more other bad stuff so you dont want to do that also it makes more weight for the aircraft making a less buttery landing
That 'exact' thing happened to me coming into MSP (minneapolis/st. paul) airport. The pilot aborted 2 times, after the 2nd abort the 2nd Pilot came into the main cabin and pulled up the carpet, thus pulling up a periscope to look at the landing gear.
They showed the gear was down but had an indication that the right wheels were 'not' locked. On the 3rd attempt he said, "prepare for landing", IF he right gear does not hold the plane will take a sharp right. go to the nearest emergency exit and follow the inst. of the Flight Attendants. They brought that baby down like a 'feather'. Everyone cheered, as I... thus headed right for the BAR.

What was the situation eventually ❓i yet to understand the emergency here ‼️No turbulence while on air and
Perfect smooth touch down ‼️
And you didn't start screaming ALT+F4 immediately? This must be fake.
What would the pilot have scored in a landing competition?
A solid 10+ that was a remarkably smooth landing given the faulty landing gear. So smooth it was nearly impossible to discern just when the aircraft touched down except to watch for the spoilers to deploy.
Can we just take a moment to really thank and appreciate this pilot for not only staying calm and keeping everyone safe but also because he even looped around to burn off fuel to reduce the chance of a huge explosion on impact
Glad you're all right and thanks for sharing. 👍

I really appreciate when people post these videos. They're very educational and anyone considering flying should actually watch them. ✈
Bravo to the captain for staying calm which definitely helps others maintain their sanity! 👍
Hum that’s his job man, imagine him saying “ok everybody stay calm but we’re probably gonna die but don’t worry”
Staying calm and showing emotionless indifference are not the same. Remember the pilot that locked his co pilot out of the cockpit and set autopilot to slam into a mountain in western Europe (Germany I believe). There is confidence and Billy bad ass syndrome. Think Maverick in top gun. Think Tom Cruse! Overexcited about your cult is bad
This pilot deserves so much credit for this. He was so calm and reassuring therefore nobody panicked. He also landed it brilliantly, leaving the nose up for as long as possible minimising any risks if it did fail. Hats off to the man and also to all the passengers who kept there cool and didn't panic. 1 panics, everybody panics

Kudos to the pilot for advising the PAs, it's not always the case.
Bobby Paluga Back in the 90s, as we pulled into the gate at Memphis (my destination), the pilot announced that EVERYONE was getting off the aircraft because "this plane's not going anywhere." I'll never know what transpired in the cockpit on that flight (seemed normal and routine from pax viewpoint); but you could sense urgency in Captain's voice.
