    This is the sort of light, sporty, pared-back hot hatch that just doesn't get made anymore...great video! I'm sure Anthony's video about driving the 2CV will be a hoot. 🙂

      Antony writes and there is a little to his work in the description if you'd like to check it out

    “Back in the day” I bought a new 106 XS.. It was fun, but I simply loved its replacement - a 306, 3-door D-turbo. That was a flying machine.

    Awesome video Oliver 👍 I love learning about Euro cars I never knew about.

    Haven't seen one for many a year! Nice performance with no flash, excellent. Look forward to seeing your new seats.

    No matter how fast you drive.. there’s always that ol’ rally guy following close in his Dyane😉

      That was Antony driving the Dyane haha I was more spirited than fast but because he didn't know where he was going I made sure not to loose sight of him

    back in the day just like the other chap below we had one of these cars also, it was diesel, a wonderful car actually but it had no power steering so we sold it as i found it hard and very heavy to park. great video oliver

    The 106 was such a great little car. Loved my 1.1. Even managed 120MPH in it! IN A 1.1!!

      @tau-ceti Před 10 měsíci

      120MPH if your speedo was broken, perhaps.

    • @rompdude
      @rompdude Před 10 měsíci

      @@tau-ceti na, it would do about 106 mph (ironically) on its own, on a flat. But i did 120 on a nice long downhill. It was pretty scetchy, ngl.

      @@rompdude Come on...down a hill is not an accurate measure of top speed 😂

      @rompdude Před 10 měsíci

      @@tau-ceti hey, don't ruin my fun! Haha.
      But in all seriousness, at the time my friend had a gti which was "the uks fastest 106" apparently. It had tons of work done to it, the thing was scary fast, it went off the clock at 145 on the m1 before gearing out.

    • @tau-ceti
      @tau-ceti Před 10 měsíci

      @@rompdude Yeah the GTI was a great car, sadly I never owned one, but I knew a few people who had them. I had a standard S1 1.3 Rallye...obviously not as fast, but it was a fantastic car nonetheless. I wish I could own another one tbh.
      edit: ps - was your mate known as maxxibic or bic106 by any chance? there was a guy on the rallye and 106 forums with that alias. I think he spent almost 20 grand on his GTI and he made similar claims. That thing was a rocket. I don't think many people had a 106 with that sort of spec.

    Reminds me of my Citreon AX GT. Super light weight makes all the difference.

      @OliverPickard  Před 2 lety

      I like the AX they are getting rather pricey these days

  • @paulscountrygarage9180

    Great video Oliver. Like you I lament the lack of colour in car interiors nowadays. “What interior would sir like? You have a choice of charcoal, grey or black. Or would sir prefer our custom interior of black on anthracite grey?” 😂

    I had a mark 1 1.3 and a 306 Rallye. The 106 had camshaft lobes like a Rottweilers teeth straight from the factory. This mark 2 was nowhere near a raw machine like the 1.3.

    That Peugeot reminds me a lot of the Citroen AX I had some time ago. A lot of fun to drive, unfortunally not very reliable, which made it a bad daily driver.
