    Created a Google Sheets spreadsheet to track my time spent in certain categories (3 currently). 1 Second = 1 Experience point. I'll write down each minute spent in whatever category I work on then the cell next to it represents total minutes times 60 and that equals your experience earned. Example of system: you read for 30 minutes, multiply that times 60 to get your experience earned, 1800 exp. Next step is to set up an exp/level threshold so I can keep track of my level lol. Going to gamify this hard ngl. I was always proud of my Runescape levels, now time to build pride in my IRL skill levels.

      I think Oblivion system is better here, no thousands of exp but levels of a skill, and then when you level multiple skills a bit, your stats naturally grow and you level up, also in TES games (Skyrim and such) you level up skills by grinding them, so like in real life!

    RuneScape taught me so much about life. My thing was cutting wood and selling it on the market in world 1 or 2 (before the bs exchange). Then I started merchanting wood for a quick turn around in profit. My favorite thing was to cut wood though. I used to watch naruto on the side and just watch my money pile up. I’d just have to avoid the pesky tree when I pissed it off. I’ve played many games since then but none of them have been as good as RuneScape. Now I’m in my early 30s, finishing up med school and very thankful for the lessons I learned back then. Patience, hard work, perseverance. Cheers and thanks for a trip down memory lane.

    Another element (related to what you mentioned) that makes it way easier in games:
    You immediately see the progress in the form of gaining XP, in contrast to a task like studying.
    When you're studying you're not seeing a target value of the knowledge required for that subject, and not seeing the current amount increasing in such a fast rate. And then there's also the question is if you will remember it for the test.

    Nikhil, I have been here since 30k subscribers and it is so good seeing you level up video by video. Watching your videos have made me better, they are so relatable, the fact that you give a no bullshit guide to life's quest and the same time produce funny and entertaining content is why you're one of my favourite CZcamsr. I discovered so many other great people like David Goggins, Jordan Peterson just because of your skits, and just when I was feeling badly motivated about how I was ever going to loose my weight I saw your video on 'a lot can be changed in 3 months' and after that I have been running 6 kilometres every single day, practising No F, and I really feel at my best ever, these small incremental changes really do have compounding effect, and the proof is right in front of my eyes as I have seen your videos improve with every upload.
    Cheers

    One of the biggest lessons i've taken from video games in general, there is so much to learn through loosing and failure. I'm a massive fan of Soulsian games, despite the taglie of 'ohhhh its hard prepare to dieeee!', they are not hard games once you realise that your loss is 100% on your actions (ignoring glitches).
    You healed and Ludex Gundyr side-kicks your hollow ass into the next age of light? Should have dodged. Took one to many swings at a boss and you died? You got greedy. Patience is one of the biggest virtues those games have taught me (or tried to!), within the game you're just some hollow or ashen one or nameless hunter, but you can kill gods if you keep on coming back again and again and again....
    6:18 That's hilarous, I also wanted a Tyranitar amazingly bad. I still remember when my dull looking Pupitar finally became this bad ass pokemon. I had the same experiece with getting a Salamance in Ruby as well becuse of how awesome it looked. Nostaligia is a hell of a drug kids.
    On another note, Yakuka 7 is just this trope writ large and it's a pretty great game, with plenty of Dragon Quest style gridning, great story and a hilarous main character. I'd reccommed you check it out when you have the time though Captain!
    Awesome work as usual man, keep on being great.

    Insightful vid, and something that I've been practicing and having success with for a few weeks now. Here's a few things you'll want to keep in mind if you want to successfully gamify your life:
    1. In addition to life being like an mmorpg, it's also like another very popular game many people have played - The Sims. Specifically, you'll want to regularly take stock of your 'Needs' bars - Energy, Hunger, Fun, etc and make sure they'll full enough, otherwise you'll rebel against your mind and refuse to do any work, just like the avatars in the Sims would plead with you and refuse to do anything if they were starving, for example. You have to take care of those baseline things to do good work.
    2. It's one thing to watch your character take a sword to the face in a video game. It's quite another thing when YOU have to take a sword to the face. It's far more uncomfortable to bench press 225 than it is to watch your character do it on screen. It takes way more effort when YOU have to go up to the girl and risk rejection rather sitting in a chair and clicking a few buttons. You have to mentally prepare yourself for this reality or you'll simply scurry back to the comfort zone to watch screens the second things get uncomfortable.
    3. There are no rules to this game. If lower level people are content to stay lower level and just have fun, that's their prerogative. Just because you want to play the game differently and you have higher skills doesn't mean you're playing the game "better" than them.
    Other than that, we're all just players in the game. We're all at different levels, some rising, some falling, some decked out in the sickest gear and phats while others beg for free stuff in Lumby. Good luck.

      If people treated life like Skyrim, we would have a bunch of racist people waging civil war and an assassination cult lol. Well, to be fair, it is not Morrowind where I can legally get someone killed.

      Dumbest fucking comment I've seen in a while. You're not going to become as rich as Bezos or Musk or whoever just by being "dedicated." You need luck and connections.

    Even though I really don't have the time to put into a game like Runescape and probably never will, the nostalgia of that soundtrack is like nothing else. I do miss it, just can't justify leveling up my strength if I can level up my strength in real life. Great video as always

    Simply put, revisiting the amount of joy as a kid/teen playing RS got me SO excited seeing this loop back to the journal;

    Finding a "master' and a purpose is one of the best things that you can get from life. If there is no purpose, life seems a bit empty. Without a master, there is a lot of hard work and time that will gladly substitute it.

    It's satisfying in games and easier to motivate yourself because you don't feel any physical discomfort. Where as you do a plank ..

  • @Tacka4Fun
    @Tacka4Fun Před 2 lety

    Yeeee, it's super easy to be motivated in-game because You have a clear path, and You are guaranteed to get a reward if You stick to it, aaaaand it doesn't regress back... In life, it works, but You have way more chaos that distracts and sometimes everything seems meaningless because we can't stop. The regression and the eventual death - it's pretty hardcore when You putting things into perspective and can be demotivating for many (or very motivating). While in-game on the other hand You immerse into a different reality where You trick Yourself to be immortal and all the progress is always there.
    Though then again, through spirituality You kinda achieve the same feeling, as Soul or Consciousness collecting experiences learning lessons of this reality and the progress is always there - somewhere.
    Anyway, great video as always, many nostalgic little clips! :)))
