  • Björk Nu Flyver Anton:
Title song for the Danish children's movie "Anton" from 1996. This song was only released on a rare radio promo, along with a few other instrumental songs where Björk wails. This song is sung in, reportedly, rather staggering Danish.

    Nu flyver Anton
    helt af sig selv
    Hvad tror du Anton?
    bliver drømmene til virkelighed?
    Han flyver gennem himlen
    og himlen hænger
    som en krave
    om hans hals
Det er så sort og meget mørkt
    imellem sol og måne
    Nu flyver Anton
    Sa pisser han pa mørkret
    og mørkret
    bliver til lys
    Nu flyver Anton
Sa fik han sit første kys
    sit første kys!
    med tungen!
    tungen
    gik som
    en pro-pel-ler
    woah!
    Oooh, nu flyver Anton
    __________________________
    Anton is flying
    all by himself
    What do you think Anton?
    will the dreams become reality?
    He flies through the heaven
    and the heaven hangs
    like a collar
    around his neck
It is so black and very dark
    between the sun and moon
    Anton is flying
So he pisses on the darkness
    and the darkness
    turns to light
    Anton is flying
So he got his first kiss
    his first kiss!
    with the tongue!
    the tongue
    went like
    a pro-pel-ler
    woah!
    Oooh, Anton is flying

I loved this song back in the 90s. I used to listen to it in my college dorm and my roommate thought I was a weirdo.

Being a Dane, I felt like commenting on the lyrics translation; "helt af sig selv" is translated into "all by himself", which is not entirely incorrect, but the Danish expression means something to effect of "by his own powers", rather than "alone".

Oddly makes sense in Norwegian. One would have to change it to kraft for "power"

Is her danish any good? bearing in mind that she does twist pronunciations for music’s sake. the only thing i could tell was incorrect is the way she says “af” which sounds like “av” in swedish or norwegian.

I’m a Dane and I only know that she sing this song in danish because a radio host said it.. she is from Iceland and the learn danish in school. I know from som Icelandic who live in Denmark that there danish with their Icelandic accent have a more souft/singing sound. A bit similar to Norwegian. I’m pretty sure that if I played this song for the first time for some Dane, they wouldn’t recognise it as a danish lyric..

Have in mind that she hate the Danes because we still rule Greenland and the Faroe Islands, plus all the years in Iceland where Danish were the second language.
The story goes that she owed the instructor a favor. She did it in one take and were pissed off.
I don't think she did her best 😉

First time I heard this I was a bit mystified for a minut or so. I thought "these lyrics must be Danish", but then again not quite. But then I concluded "it must be Björk, that explains it".

I love how the beat and lyrics are so horibly cheesy, something she would never have wrote herself, but she makes something else and pretty interesting out of it, the way she sings it very icelandic and Björk-ish.
