Serves 4-5
Ingredients
• 700g chuck steak or other cheaper stewing steak
• 2 tbspn plain flour
• 1 medium onion, diced
• 1 stick of diced Celery
• 1 diced carrot
• 1.5 cups beef stock
• 1 tbspn Worcestershire sauce
• Beer (optional)
• 2 tbspn corn flour
• Sharp cheddar cheese
• Puff pastry
• Butter
Directions:
• Dice your beef in to 2cm cubes and dust with flour, salt and pepper.
• Generously oil the base of a camp oven and heat to medium and add the onion and beef, sauté for 3-4 minutes or until the beef is slightly browned all over.
• Add the carrots and celery and mix for another 3-4 minutes, then add the beef stock and Worcestershire sauce.
• Cook on a simmer with only bottom heat (yes a gas burner is fine) for around 2 hours or until the beef is tender but not falling apart.
• Combine the corn flour with ½ cup water, mix and add it to the beef mixture. Then leave the mixture somewhere to cool down until nearly room temperature.
• Pre heat a jaffle/pie iron and coat it very well with butter, then mark out the outlines of the iron and cut out puff pastry sheets about 5mm wider than the iron.
• Slot in the puff pastry sheets and add the mixture to the middle, adding a generous layer of grated cheddar to the top then the lid of the puff pastry and pinching the sides together.
• Cook for about 5-10min each side depending on the heat of the fire, when it’s ready, the pastry should come away from the iron when you open it.
Tips: Use a normal size jaffle/pie iron, not a jumbo.

Since I added some wooster-sheer sauce to a beef casserole I was doing in the pressure cooker, I now add it to every beef dish I make. It adds that extra bit of flavour that brings the flavour home.
I love using the Wooster-Sheer in many different dishes, especially the 18 hour pulled pork shoulder

This is refreshing. I used my large jaffle iron for first time a couple of weeks ago for a bacon and egg pie, worked well (no Wooster-shire sauce), although too full and the GF puff pastry couldn’t expand making it a cracker.
Wooster-shire was a great way of explaining how to pronounce it. A great trick for all pies!

I'm making dad noises now whilst reaching for the wooster-sheer sauce!! I always add it to red meat dishes and it makes for the best Shepherds Pie. I've been trying to perfect toad-in-the-hole in the camp oven, not quite there yet, but would like to see a Fire to Fork version!
Thanks. Will give the pie a go next weekend using a smaller jaffle-iron. Have you ever done a fresh, marinated sardine breakfast on the fire, sort of Spanish style, with crusty bread, mayo and lemon wedges? I did that yesterday, and yes, it goes superbly with a cold, breakfast beer.

I tend to do a similar job when hung over. I'll toss last night's pulled pork with beans and chilli into the jaffle iron using puff pastry or bread. Two slices of yellow American cheese (allegedly cheddar) from Costo seems to be the maximum you can add without inducing mid or post meal regret. Worcestershit not required. Best results when cooked in last night's still warm ashes, chef must be naked.

I’m going to say this cos I can, I’m a Pom who’s lived in Perth for 35 years, try a cheese n onion pie, no meat, shock horror 😂 short crust on the bottom puff or flaky pastry on the top, filling grated strong cheddar cheese, onion and lots of it and two eggs with lots of white pepper, served with baked beans and chips, your welcome from the North of England 👍😉😋
