Mon Oncle is probably my favourite film of all time! It is an absolute to joy to watch time and again! Jacques Tati was indeed a genius, his work never fails to lift me! He was a genuine master of visual and audio comedy! Superb!
I saw this movie in New York in 1958 and almost got thrown out of the theater as I could not stop laughing. The usher came up twice to warn me! One of the funniest movies in my lifetime (And I don't understand a word of French)!!!
He certainly was. David Lynch has said on many occasions that Tati is one of his earliest influences. He talks about it in a documentary on the making of Mon Oncle called Once Upon A Time…Mon Oncle (available on The Criterion Channel). The Tati-style sets and the sounds were there as early as Eraserhead.
I didn't understand anything at all but it cracked me up just watching his reaction to her talking ...Jaques Tati is a brilliant comedian ...I love u Monsieur Hulot
What is so difficult to understand in this funny scene? The secretary assumes, he stood on the desk watching her while she refreshes herself in the room next door...!

I can only agree with you:-) in all points you made...!

the words are more or less meaningless in Tati's films. Just sounds. (Note the sound the chair cushion make)
Sounds like the bones for a Tati scene in itself. Bowing and tipping the hat...that'll get you out of the scene every time.
I love this film. Haven't seen it in 20 years.
Quel film extraordinaire !! A voir et à revoir sans modération !
Love this film. Maybe even my fave of all time.
Großartig, ganz großartig! Er ist/war das Bindeglied zwischen der Filmäthetik von Wes Anderson und Roy Andersson . Pardon my german..
Funny how she thinks he was watching her from the window. Hilarious!
Bien vu la vision de futur avec des intérieur sans couleurs où l'on ne trouve que des variations de gris. C'est exactement notre époque.
The sound environment of his films...utterly brilliant. I'd be curious if David Lynch was influenced by him.

He was a genius.
Mr Bean's French ancestor
No. Mr Bean is the Monsieur Hulot of the future, or its (bad) copy.

Super extrait je n'ai pas tout compris mais ça à l'air génial je connais "Les Vacances de Monsieur Hulot" mais celui-ci moins bien de Jacques Tati
Merci M. Hulot…..😅😂…. Et bonne journée….
J'adore cette scène. Et elle me fait penser au super remix sonore qu'en a fait Me Untel.
Amei este filme.
Quelle mise en scène ! Les films de Tati n'ont pas d'équivalent.
sans faire de gymnastique !
surreale
Mr beannnn
He probably was the inspiration for the character of Lt. Columbo
Mister Bean a-t-il inventé quelque chose ? LOLLLLLLLLL
Rowan atkinson said once in a interview, Jacques Tati is one of his biggest pattern
There's a lot of rules. Thanks for that.
