This was in comparison with the 7.6% growth in the previous quarter, government data showed on Thursday.
The growth, which was led by strong manufacturing and construction activity, bolstered Prime Minister Narendra Modi's economic record just months before a national election.

As an NRI I visited India in 2023 afcter 7 odd years. In this time my home town of Mumbai has changed quite a bit ,the growth is obvious and of course its a good thing but many other aspects remain thne same. The quality of life in some ways as worsened , the poverty remains among the poorer sections of society and it seems social progress indicators haven't changed much. It would be good if the government tries and improves social progress indicators.

I find it incredibly shocking and surprising how China and India are just so strikingly in contrasting. The government took a good decision by concentrating on infrastructure, and not printing money. It kept inflation low and led to real growth as more people got connected by internet, rail and highways. These high growth rates are the result.
