I only experienced this once. I was sitting on a bench trying to do this exercise and eventually I decided to "zone out" like I used to do in maths class. I noticed how my consciousness was awake with no effort. No pushing. Just floating. It was marvelous.
Unfortunately this lasted some 5 minutes before the gears started turning again. And I've lost it since!

You have the greatest high-fidelity true-to-life 'surround-sound' system ever created, it makes Dolby-Atmos sound like complete poo. Listen to every sound around you in detail as it occurs. You'll gradually hear what you've never noticed before. Do it deliberately until it's automatic and just a pleasure. This will progressively grow your sensitivity to a great depth, and appreciation of the endless beauty of the completely ordinary. We're desensitized, purely due to a lack of attention. When you pay full attention it is an obsession, but in a very healthy constructive way. When we are not desensitized thoughts struggle to stick around, or to seem the least bit interesting. It goes quiet much more easily and almost indefinitely. Even if it intrudes, who cares? Keep listening, watching, take in what is here, and thoughts just fade out and will stop, because the natural beauty is far more compelling. At some point you'll hear the textures within sounds, and these will go right through your whole body, quite viscerally, to the point that when the almost unnoticeable fridge engine kicks-on, in another room, you'll feel it, as much as hear it. You may struggle to not freak out from it overloading you at first, but listen and notice this is how you really work, as a human. You are supposed to be able to do this. It is not natural or heathy to lose your sensitivity, nor to not even know you can have it. It's ok to identify what a sound is, that's perfectly normal, but you will eventually stop doing that too and just accept the beauty. It will change your perception.

      Lovely comment, very relatable!
*Worth considering:* are you comparing a "peak" experience - a memory (thought) of a specific event, a sensation, an idea about what's "needed", or a specific state - to what your experience NOW "should be" or isn't?
Are you looking for that particular experience again since you've "lost" it? Trying to get those some 5 minutes of 0% effort, 100% floating again?
What if that's simply not here right now besides as just another thought, another desirable fantasy? The push and pull to "not push and pull anymore"...
What if YOU still are here regardless, no matter how much pushing there is or how experience changes?
And maybe rather than the 5 minutes - there's only a few microseconds of 30% effort,70% floating? What if those seconds can open up to more once THIS experience is seen for what it is, once it's welcomed, not dismissed for being "lesser" than the remarkable experience that's being sought after through thoughts?
Writing this for my own sake too, Comparison can be very tricky. Thankfully we're always right here, so we always have the chance to notice it, then notice what's underneath / beyond it.

When asking who are you, there are no thoughts. But there is a contraction in my body. It’s as if that contraction prevents thoughts from appearing, I’m guessing like a freeze response? So it’s deceiving because there are literally no thoughts that come up, so I can’t tell if it is this freeze response, or an actual gap.
When I put my attention on the contracted body part, it moves to a different part of my body. After five minutes of chasing it around, I got so anxious that it felt like I couldn’t breath unless I controlled my breath. Like I couldn’t let my body breath on its own.

This is wonderful, very vivid description of it. And it may be uncomfortable to experience, but it sounds like a fantastic place to inquire from!
If you don't mind me asking, since I've felt similar things before - What do you feel in the rest of the body, if you let the contraction be after the question, but focus on other areas without chasing it?
And during the chase, what do you feel is the "relationship" with that contraction?
For example, Is it like a "police chase", going after a criminal or adversary? A "play chase", full of lightheartedness and fun? Or is it chasing after a "guide", curiously showing you around and leading you somewhere unexpected?
How would you describe the feel of it, the view of it? Is that view sticky, rigid, or flexible and something you can play with too?
I get the feeling that we often ignore the "view" we add to the experience, when it can affect it VERY strongly in these subtle places. How was the view even formed, what conclusions or beliefs lead to it? Can the view change? And how does that change the experience, or what DOESN'T change when the view does? What's unchanging?
      Would love to hear more!

Nor a Dream Character stating, “I AM.” But One saying, “I AM NOT.”
Consciousness displaying the Universe, without a verifiable Being.

I have listened to this one 5 times now. This direct pointing, especially the second half of the video for folks (like me) who dont see a "gap" has been really valuable. After sitting with the "find the you that does not change with thought" , I see why I did not (and still dont ) see a "gap" , its because I have formed a concept on what a "gap" is and I am seeking it. Just dropping that notion of having to find a gap as a "success" criteria (which you also called out) has helped a lot. Yes you are right that its ok to not see the gap and something in the way this message was delivered in this video makes me not feel frustrated that I dont see the gap , yet there is a mystery to it. I dont have words to describe anymore. Just wanted to share what helped and wanted to say thanks!

    What's the nature of presence?

    • @morbb5691
      @morbb5691 Před 29 dny +1

Presence is noticable, though subtle. It's not something dramatic; it's not gonna hit you over the head like a 2 x 4 with some kind weird sensation or anything. In my current experience, Presence is subtle though noticable when thoughts and emotions aren't too stirred up. Presence is like an energetically neutral sense of well being. It never changes; it's always the same, always there. It is always calm and peaceful. Presence is also called consciousness. Consciousness is Being; Beingness, existence, the "I Am". If you can notice Presence, just notice it. Don't try to do anything with it. You can't, anyway, so just notice it, observe it. It's actually what 'we' are (though there is no 'we').

Repeating the question didn't change anything. No gap, no response, no idea. Finishes off morning cup of tea, this popped up on google, scalp is tingling mildly. Cogitates drawing blanks, get instant mental image of black and blank computer screen. Noisemaker wants to review the question. Sips last of tea. Slowly focuses on OP's words again, rewinds video ... rewinds again. Listens some more ... nope. The question may be broken. Second cup of tea? Yep! Makes tea, types this.
Memory vaguely remembers cogitating this decades ago when there was an ardent disturbing enquiry into 'weighty' matters, due to my utter desperation to do more than believe stuff, or accept standard baseline societal delusions of prescribed 'knowledge' as inevitable. I demanded comprehension and insight. Had a genuinely desperate mental desire to be 'clear'. The relative 'relevance' then, makes no sense now, as I have absolutely no idea who I am. If one says I'm God, incarnated as a human, people will look at you funny (may nail you to a cross). The 'truth' comes with a very low social permissiveness. There's no remaining interest in internal or external 'answers' about, "who are you", which answers can only be wrong, whatever the source. There's no way to know, and no one else can ever know, but they will. I'll find out when I 'die' possibly, but not knowing is fine. Believing random myths about it is not.
I remember reading (back then) that J Krishnamurti (who seemed to know a thing or two more than I did), once said his mum told him he had the mind of a butcher, i.e. nothing was safe or sacred, he slaughtered every thought and broke its mystique. "Who are you?" A butcher of thoughts seems a satisfactory temporal 'answer'. Implying we are not our dearest-held pet thoughts ... hey, you asked.
