8 reasons my $12 Intex 200 boat is kinda cool

  • I bought an Intex 200 Inflatable raft back in 2014 for $12 and have used it for a variety of cheap adventures since then and it still surprises me how durable it has been. The material is very thin and cheap, similar to shower curtain thickness but the seams are still holding up.
I try to be very careful with the boat. I did get a couple of punctures on the inside because I was carrying some metal parts inside it and they punctured the raft.
The most fun has been adding a rowing frame and DIY pontoons. Using a rowing frame is so comfortable and I sit up high and it rows with almost no effort.
the rowing frame is a lot of small parts to take part and reassemble so I decided to try rowing the Intex 200 without the frame.
I bought some folding aluminum oars to replace the plastic ones that come with the boat.
I tried adding the foam floats but they made the rowing constricted so I removed them
Sitting in the bottom of the boat instead of on top with the frame I find the boat is fairly stable. It is cramped inside and I found it hard to get anything out of my pockets and after a while, my feet were starting to get sore from being pressed against the end. however, the little rowboat rowed very well against a fairly nice breeze.
The plastic oarlocks did not seem to get any wear which has been my major concern and the reason I tried a rowing frame in the beginning. I found the pressure put on the oarlocks is very light.
I will be adding a little sail to the boat soon. I added a trolling motor a few years ago and a skeg and will add the links to those videos from the past.
I have a lot of little DIY projects for the boat and hope to take it fishing at some local bridges which is what I planned on using the boat for in the very beginning.
I need to put it in the pool to see how easy it is to get in and out if it turns over away from land.
I do not recommend the boat for inexperienced users and or exposed waters but the little Flipper, which is the name I gave my boat, is the best $12 boat I ever bought for sure.
My apartment is not usually this messy. I am saving the cardboard boxes for a cardboard ocean liner epic, The Much Anticipated Sinking of the RMS Cardboardatania.

Im looming forward to seeing your next video on this with the sail! Very interesting video robb. I wouldve never guessed you could fit all that in such a small box.
For the holes, i was wondering if using something like a glue gun and putting the melted glue onto the hole would work fine?
    Cheers robb!

Brad, me too! I am thinking of adding a tiny trolling motor on the front and add a mast to it for a real although very small sail so I can go at least across the wind instead of just downwind.

me too Moe. There is a canal close by that runs east and west. The next time we get a strong Easterly I will try it. I want to put my little trolling motor on the front and use my foot to operate the controls. I just need to make a motor mount.

Checking out this week's (07/27/2022) ALDI flyer and see that they have the Intex Explorer 200 Boat listed for $4.99. At that price you can have an Intex flotilla.

Hey John, that's incredible. Imagine if you bought about a dozen of those and put a plywood platform on top and a tent. You could have a house on the lake for under $200 LOL that would make a great CZcams video.
