Alperen Sengun totaled 45 points, 16 rebounds, and 5 steals as the Houston Rockets defeated the San Antonio Spurs, 114-101, after outscoring them 67-48 in the 2nd half. Jalen Green (23 points) and Fred VanVleet (21 points, 10 assists, 5 3PM) totaled 44 points. Devin Vassell (22 points, 8 rebounds) and Malaki Branham 20 points) led the Spurs as Victor Wembanyama totaled 10 points, 11 rebounds, and 7 blocks. The Rockets move to 27-34 as the Spurs fall to 13-49.
Alperen Sengun becomes the fifth player in NBA history to total 45+ PTS, 15+ REB, and 5+ STL in a game (since 1973-74, when steals were fully recorded), joining:
Anthony Davis - 2x
Joel Embiid - 1x
James Harden - 1x
John Drew - 1x
At 21y, 224d old, Sengun is the YOUNGEST player to ever record such a line, previously: Drew (23y, 121d). - Sport

Not to get too ahead of things, but we may be seeing the next edition of Olajuwon vs Robinson. Alpi has been working with Hakeem on his post game, but he's even more athletic and improving on defense.
Wemby obviously is already a prolific shot blocker, but Robinson could NEVER handle or shoot like him. Alpi has had a couple seasons to develop. Wemby is gonna get stronger.
Senguns back to the basket game is so fundamentally solid Wemby will have trouble with this matchup for years. Wemby needs to gain muscle. Sengun is just bullying him down low.

Sengun had a very good game, his best in terms of points, Wemby undoubtedly his worst game with 10 points, 11 rebounds and 7 blocks and 6 TO.... we forget that he is still a rookie in training given his latest performances who was unsure about playing before the game...
he only took barely 10 shots, including five 3-points, not the sign of a guy in optimal shape.

The all-stars will come. He has been improving so fast to start his career. It reminds me of how Capella rapidly became a great player for us. Sengun has more offensive potential then Capella and I think he will be a 25-28ppg guy maybe as soon as next year

Sengun is not actually close to mip, but he did deserve his all star buzz. He was playing great since the second half of last season, after he got over the hump with his poor conditioning.
This season he started close to where he left off, then started to struggle after teams adjusted to him. And recently he seems like he is getting used to the added attention. And is getting back to himself.

Wemby is a perfect defender but Alpi is too quick for him. Respect to both of them, thew will be the faces of the leagues in next years.
For me the most important thing is Alperen never gives up although he was rejected couple of times by Wembayama. He continued to attack the rim. That is very critical.

You can tell sengun has been working with Hakeem. He has more back to the basket post moves than any center in the league rn. And he has a nice 1 footer fade and midrange floater to go along with it. And he’s the second best passing big man. At 22 years old, sengun has superstar potential.
