  • After our comparison test between the Everest and the Fortuner in March, we’re doing another head-to-head with a Ford and a Toyota. This edition of the Big Test is a battle between two 4x4 midsize pickups: the Ford Ranger Wildtrak and the Toyota Hilux GR Sport.
The Hilux we have is the latest refresh of the model first launched by Toyota in 2015; the Ranger, while considered an all-new generation, is based heavily on Ford’s tried-and-tested T6 platform. The Hilux GR-S and the Ranger Wildtrak 4x4 are currently the top-spec versions of these pickups.
We’re back at Driftwoods Action Park in Indang, Cavite, to test things like acceleration and braking, ride and handling, hill ascent and descent, and cargo loading capacity. Each truck has its own strengths, but which one better fits your needs? Watch the video to find out, and let us know your thoughts in the comments.

TOTL Navara 4x4 2009 to 2015, then TOTL Hilux owner here 2015 to 2018 then. Now, I have a 2018 3.2 Ranger 4x4 AT with 85kplus mileage. Great comfort & handling, never had any problems or repairs (just normal PMS outside casa & change battery) once a year PMS. Now im planning to sell it, with current prices of it is around 850k to 950k tops.while the 2018 Hilux 4x4 AT is currently around 1.1M to 1.2M tops.. That being said, resale value of toyota is still top. But, i will still opt to get the new ranger. For me, comfort of my family is still priority especially on long drives.. its a night & day difference..

Both are great trucks but obviously made from different stand points. Hilux is strictly a work vehicle, no extra things that can break on you. No giant screen that may not work in dirty situations, USB ports out in the open, or overly electronic steering that will make things a nightmare if it goes out. Hence why in Japan, it can only be registered as a work vehicle, not a passenger vehicle.
On the flip side, looking at the conveniences of the Ranger show that this truck was made for more recent demands involving outdoor hobbies rather than a utility truck. Comfort, conveniences, all the bells and whistles that make the journey to a campsite nice.
So how can you compare the 2 without seriously considering their uses. I would choose Hilux if I wanted a work horse, and would pick the Ranger for an outdoors weekend warrior.

Well for me since i work a lot ofcurse i need a truck that makes me comfortable while going to work and going back home, you know life is a matter of choice wether you want to be happy and confortable all the time or sad be miserable all the time, and the price says the big practicality. So I continue using ford for a wise man.

The rear disc on the Ranger doesn't make a difference on that dusty surface, especially without load. It's more up to the tires, I guess. Heavily loaded on the road, however, they should make a difference. But anyways I like the Ford for being more comfortable.

I don't think that the brake test was fair. They start the run at the same distance, have the same stopping markers, but didn't have the same braking point. Anton said they're just going to hit 60kph then slam the brakes. Given that the Hilux is quicker based on time, it will definitely brake earlier than the ranger.

Reliability is good, but I won't sacrifice my physical health and safety and of my family especially when you hit the rough roads. If you have an Elderly and pregnant women or kids , I'm sure you woudn't want them jumping, bumping around inside the cabin that may result to injuries.
Plus having extra airbags and other additional safety features is a plus for both passenger and driver's safety.
When it comes to cargo, Ford can also be relied to carry what it promises to hold in the cargo bed (know the limit, huwag abuso sa unit, like overloading everytime) Remember even Cargo trailer Trucks have their limits too. People who probably complain and say negative things about Ford are people who either never owned one or the one's who abuses their units and probably tried to get an untrained mechanics outside casa to lower the maintenace cost (hanap mura kahit di maalam sa unit ung mekaniko)-therefore sacrificing the quality and proper maintenace.... remember not all mechanics are the same.

Always bashing one side to the other. I am 61 years old and I have had 50+ cars/trucks in my life. Half them Ford. You know how many times I been broke down? ZERO. The 2 trucks that left me stranded were both Toyotas. Generally Toyotas are reliable, but what are the odds my 2 hardest broken vehicles were Toyota? So each person has reasons for their vehicle choices but Ford/Lincoln has been damn good to me. My current truck is 2020 Ford Ranger FX4. Excellent truck.

    • @nricz
      @nricz Před 10 měsíci +1

11 years ago, I chose between Strada and Hilux.
Hilux's interior looks like it was designed by my grand father... Specs and features doesn't feel like it's worth its price. So I ended up with the Strada.
My Strada worked everyday with almost no fail... Almost, 'cos there was that one time when the clutch gave up, though that's on me cos I already saw it coming and I just brushed it aside. And on a manual transmission, clutch is gonna guaranteed wear off eventually. Mine took 10 years before it did.
Last May, I looked for an upgrade. I was hoping for a new Strada, but it wasn't out yet and I too impatient to wait. So I went back and took a peek of the Hilux, and it still looked like it was designed by my grandfather... Even after 11 years. Lol. And at that price?
Then I looked at Ford Wildtrak. And it was worth every darn peso. Longer warranty, and cheaper periodic maintenance. 👍👍👍

Ask the Cordellieran's why most of them preferred toyota hilux. They use there pick up for carrying loads of vegetables, fertilizers and gold ore for the miners. The road is uphill and off road for how manny kilometers. The test they are showing is not the BIG TEST as they are saying put a 1ton load as the Cordellieran's farmers and miners doing to there pick up climb a hill thats the real test and there you will see real purpose of pick up and the answer why they preferred hilux than other pick up.
