Here with a sketchbook tour! Honestly ya girl has the hardest time making these videos. I get major brain fog when I have to record my hands and just talk, weird experience. I know ya'll love these videos though so this one is for you!!
As I said in the video there is NO ONE RIGHT WAY to use your sketchbook!! I know mine doesn't looks like the typical "loose" sketches that you might expect to see. But that's just how I use my sketchbook. Please use yours however YOU want to. This is how I like to use mine :-) PLEASE no negativity in the comments about how your sketchbook looks different. THANKS IN ADVANCE!!

Hey, here's an idea. Maybe when you reach the middle of the sketchbook you turn it around and start over. That way you have a refresh and don't have to deal with the heavy part being on the left. Just a thought, keep it up : )
yeah I never sketch from beginning to end. I always pick any random page to sketch on :)

Leigh, you mentioned when you get towards the end of a sketch book you hate how the bulk is on the opposite side..Have you ever considered turning the book upside down to reset the bulk on the side you prefer it on? Just a thought

My husband works in the printing industry so I have the random knowledge that it's called perfect binding. :) & I got into those Strathmore sketchbooks because of you. They're great!

It's so refreshing to see another artist that focuses more on animals than humans. Not that I have anything against people that draw humans, I just tend to fall into a loop of forcing myself to draw things I don't enjoy when I see other people draw them. (I feel like such a failure sometimes that I can't draw people/ don't enjoy it) Seeing this video was really motivating for me! I'm going to experiment with more color :))

Leigh! you don't need to buy expensive stuff to make the grafite not go all over the place. Back in art school a professor told us to use hair spray (ultra hold) to fix the colors for pastels and other materials like it. Obviously wont work like the professional stuff but most households have hair spray and its cheap af. Cheers from Canada :D
Hairspray is very acidic and shouldn’t be used for archival purposes but it works if it’s a quick sketch you don’t care about the longevity of
Im in europe. My cheap end extra super hold hairspray is only a little less expensive than normal setting spray.

Instead of fixative I just put a cutout of parchment/wax paper over my sketchbook to prevent smudging! Fixative smells icky, not the vibe. Loved the sketchbook tour as always!

hey leigh if u don’t like the way your sketchbook lays when it gets toward the end i would suggest you flip it over and start from the back like it’s new ! i used to do that when i had the irrational fear of starting a new sketchbook, i would start it from the back and somehow that helped ? i think that might help you too !

really liked this video :) i think many people like sketchbook tours bc they give this impression of perfection without the struggle behind it, but also because it's like a little personal museum ! and as an artist myself i know i like these vids bc they give inspiration on what to draw, on composition, on colors or mediums to try out !

I really love sketchbook tours. Even going through my own sketchbooks, it feels so nostalgic. Like I get to remember so many random details from the day or time period. Makes me miss the moon at a train station when it snowed and smeared a marker stroke. The day my sister told us she was pregnant and I left a spread half finished on purpose because we got the call when I was mid-sketch.
This was such a beautiful video essay! Your insights about keeping a sketchbook are truly valuable. I recently started feeling troubled that I spend time in my sketchbook as a way to avoid taking risks and investing time in making large pieces. But your perception about keeping a sketchbook just crushed that silly thought! Thank you!

You mentioned you loose interest when sketchbook gets thick on the left side near the end. Maybe try at the middle of the book flipping it upside down and starting at the back of the book if it was a new one(hope that makes sense)... so that you end your sketchbook with the middle of the book. I think that could be fun

Loved it! I like seeing sketchbook tours from my favorite artists because I learn a lot from seeing their process. It's also a good reminder/inspiration source for my own sketchbook. Sometimes I get too perfectionist about mine and forget that its a judgement free zone to experiment! Thanks Leigh 💚
I’m so jealous of people who put stickers on everything. I love stickers but I’ve always had the worst luck with them. Either ripping them while trying to peel them off the paper or them eventually getting messed up when i have them on any surface 😪. I’ve resorted to just taping magnets to the back of them and putting them on my magnet boards or radiator
